1985 solid front axle with efi. This is a rust free California 4runner with a straight unmolested body, a fresh rebuild with less than 1000 miles using an Engnbldr street rv head and cam (details below) The exterior has been bed lined with Al's liner which works well on trails to protect the body as well as being great for protection from anything else. The truck will come without fog lights unless specified. Truck rides on some older Dunlop 31x10.50 with 40% tread on Rock Crawler steelies  and with the engine combo can cruise at 75 all day and get 20 mpg on 91 octane. I recently rebuilt the knuckles with a Marlin kit tht came with HD seals and koyo bearings. Drivetrain is basically stock with the exemption of the street rv setup. The interior is a 7/10 with some general wear and tear in the cargo area. Dash is perfect with no cracks and inclinometer works perfect including the light. The right front amber light is cracked and there is a small dent in the right fender where the door meets and I've repaired the bed liner in several places and the color is slightly off but hardly noticeable. I live in a temperate climate and do not have the a/c belt hooked up and would be easy for someone to figure out. This truck runs, drives and stops straight as an arrow and feels solid as a rock with no rattles  I would not hesitate to get in right now as it sits and drive to the far reaches of the earth and back home. There is room to sleep in the back and room for plenty of gear and everything that should work does. This truck has just passed California emissions and has a two year current registration as of yesterday June 19. I want this truck to go to a good home where it will be loved and not hacked like every other classic yota, if you want to hack it, go find another truck, this one is too nice for you.

Engine details:
New injectors and all tune up parts including air filter
I had all machine work done by a shop that builds porsche race engines and not one detail got overlooked during this build.
I built it on a seasoned 22r block using NPR pistons and rings (oem) at .020" over using the type of hone specified by Toyota on a sunnen grinder.
Hot tanked block and painted chevy orange (looks sweet)
Line bore was checked and honed
Crank spec'd near the low end of factory spec and was polished
Rods were reconditioned with new small end manganese bronze bushings
ACL std. Size Alu-Glide big end bearings and Clevite std. Sized main bearings
Engnbldr gasket kit with all viton seals (no leaks of you run synthetics)
Head gasket copper coated as well as all coolant gaskets.
Broken in with Brad Penn 30w break in oil and changed at 500. Now has Brad Penn standard 30w at 900 miles
Engine built with engnbldr "steel rail" timing kit to prevent chain slappage through the head.
This engine was built to last and will run trouble free for hundreds of thousands of miles if taken care of.
I did not plan on selling my truck and built and treated it as such. Trans has fresh gl-5 80w90 in it as does the t case. The trans is a W56-C from a later model with the cast iron bearing carrier as opposed to the weak early aluminum one that cracks. It shifts butter smooth and makes no noise. 4WD works flawlessly as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I am also willing to show truck if requested. I probably miss a few things and have described this truck as accurately as possible. Good luck bidding

119K Toyota Avalon sedans recalled over airbag woes

Thu, 27 Mar 2014

Toyota has issued a voluntary safety recall for 119,000 2003-2004 Avalon models because in some cases the airbags could inadvertently deploy.
The automaker says that circuits within the airbag control module could be damaged by electrical noise, which could cause the front airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners to activate. Dealers are going to repair cars by adding an electrical noise filter to the module. Owners will be notified by first class mail.
Toyota Public Affairs Manager Cindy Knight told Autoblog that there was one reported injury caused by the sudden deployment, but there have been no accidents or crashes. The company is currently preparing the parts for dealers now, and the component takes 90 minutes to two hours to install. "We don't believe there are any other affected models," said Knight.

Autocar pits McLaren MP4-12C against turbo Toyota GT86

Thu, 29 Aug 2013

The Toyota GT86, in all of its forms, is one of the best-handling cars money can buy, a trait that can put a smile on the faces of all but the most jaded car enthusiasts. But if good handling isn't what they're looking for, then what is? Our first guess would have to be more power, something the 200-horsepower Toyota would benefit from. Autocar tries out that theory by driving two turbocharged GT86s on track, then pitting the more powerful one against the 616-hp McLaren MP4-12C in a track battle.
The first GT86 turbo Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe drives makes around 255 rear-wheel horsepower and a bucket-load more torque than the stock car. That's plenty of power to either have a lot of fun or get into a lot of trouble. But the GT86 that Sutcliffe tails in the McLaren is race-prepped, stripped to the bone and wears slicks to harness a heavy-hitting 335 hp at the wheel. Weighing in at under 2,500 pounds, the Toyota can't overcome the MP4-12C's power-to-weight ratio of 5.3 pounds per horsepower, but it comes pretty close.

Toyota temporarily idles pair of Indian plants due to labor unrest

Thu, 20 Mar 2014

The Detroit News reported today that Toyota will restart production at two Indian plants, following a shutdown on Monday.
Factory labor, management and police in Asia engage in the kind of violent altercations that we're not used to, having almost entirely walked away from the overtly brutal relations epitomized by the Pinkerton Detective Agency and the Flint Sit-Down Strike. In India, a plant owned by a Ford transmission supplier plant was shut down in 2009 after incidents between workers and armed men around the same time as Ssangyong workers occupied a factory in South Korea, in 2012 Suzuki Maruti workers rioted over wages around the same time upset employees beat a ceramics factory president to death in retaliation for a labor leader's killing.
Toyota is the latest to company trying to avoid that road. The Detroit Free Press reported earlier this week that it shut down two plants in India after 11 months of acrimonious wage negotiations and arbitration have gone nowhere. Toyota said the plant workers in Bidadi, near Bangalore, had deliberately stopped production at times over the past 45 days and threatened management. The workers said they wanted their wages raised by an amount already agreed to by management, but that management had reneged; news reports weren't clear on the amount, some saying nearly 10,000 rupees ($165 US) more per month, another saying 4,000 rupees ($65 US), but reports agree that Toyota has said it will only go as high as 3,050 rupees ($50 US).
