Lifted With A Mercedes 300sd Turbo Diesel Motor Inline 5 Cylinder on 2040-cars
Louisville, Kentucky, United States
I have a Very Rare 1985 Toyota 4Runner SR5 (last year with solid front
axle) with a 3.0 liter OM617.952 Turbo Diesel for sale. Motor has been
in the truck for a little over a year and has been my daily driver/road
trip/Camping vehicle. Last year I drove 1600 Miles Round Trip to NYC and
back without the slightest problem. Currently 17,xxx miles on the swap.
Specs: - 4" suspension lift - 63' Chevy Springs in the back/ HD Rough Country springs up front - 35" BFG All-Terrain Brand New. (Still has the tabs from the injection mold.) - Solid Axle. (was cut and turned to correct drive angle. (Moved forward 3" for better approach)) - Axle was rebuilt about a year and a half ago - High Steer - Square Tube front D/S Balanced professionally (0 Vibration) Need new Teflon bushings to quiet the chatter at low speeds - Gusseted for support - Steering dampener - Tom Woods Custom Rear D/S - Stainless Braided Brake Lines - Custom Fabricated Oil Filter Relocation Adapters to allow easy filter access - Rebuilt Turbo - OM617.952 Motor - New Head Gasket (installed while the motor was being fitted) - New Monark Injectors. Never been stuck anywhere yet. I am pretty light on the truck as it is. I go by the "it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" with this thing. Never sees over 60 mph, and rarely sees boost over 6 psi. I built this truck to be a good gas mileage/Ultra Reliable/Versatile/Utilitarian Rig and it has become just that. I have no real reason to sell it other than to see what I could get for it, and I have recently moved into the city and parking this can be interesting. I would possibly trade for a WRX, but it would have to be near stock, and would prefer a wagon. NO AUTOMATICS I will not entertain low-ballers. There are only 6 that I have seen like this ever and this one is the ONLY one in within kentuckiana/ohio. The next closest is a project underway in Southern TN. I have receipts and pictures along with video for nearly everything and every mod. Also have every Fuel Fill-up since the swap, minus 2 or 3 when the printer at the pump didn't work. Thanks for taking a look!! |

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid
Mon, 21 Oct 2013People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical - they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so. As most of the fullsize segment's mainstays derive a fair bit of their platform and powertrain technologies from their midsize cousins, these larger four-doors offer the potential for fatter profit margins, too. And with the newly stylish duds found on many of the industry's most successful midsize sedans, it's only right that automakers no longer think about fullsizers as big, squishy, vanilla family haulers with flat seats, vague steering and a thin layer of 'luxury' in the form of faux wood trim.
As manufacturers have again started diving into large sedans feet-first, the cars themselves have become sharper. The interiors are now of a higher quality and loaded with tech, while the exteriors have become further extensions of each manufacturer's design language. There's perhaps no greater example of this than the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, two models that evolved from subpar offerings into market leaders. This segment-wide transformation happened quite quickly, whether because of coincidental timing or because manufacturers are trying to get more out of their big cars, recognizing they account for a small portion of overall sales (just 3.5 percent of the new-car market in the first half of 2013).
The 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is one such vehicle. We remarked on the changes to the V6 variant last year, and while we previously had a quick steer of the gas-electric hybrid, we figured the new model was worth a closer week-long look.
Camatte concept puts the Toy back in Toyota [w/videos]
Mon, 16 Jun 2014It's been two years since Toyota first revealed its Camatte show car at the Tokyo Toy Show. Though sadly never destined for production, Toyota brought the concept back the following year as the Camatte 57s roadster, and is now returning to the same show with yet another take on the kid-friendly, configurable 1+2 with interchangeable body panels - this time with a slew of features that are fresh not only to the concept itself, but to the industry altogether.
This year the Camatte is being showcased in two forms: a bare chassis in the Tech Lab that lets kids see the inner workings of a modern automobile, and another in the Design Lab that lets kids draw their own motif for the concept that is then displayed on an LED hood.
The overall approach reminds us of the way Toyota's budget brand Daihatsu unveiled the Kopen roadster concept at the Tokyo Motor Show late last year, only even more kid-focused and decidedly more light-hearted than you might otherwise expect from one of the largest industrial giants in the world, and could only have been made for a toy exposition. In Japan. Which would explain the ridiculously upbeat videos below, where you'll also find the brief press release.
Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance
Tue, 18 Nov 2014There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.
