1999 Toyota 4Runner has a brand new 2.2 liter Kubota V-2203 direct injection engine installed. Has about 4k miles on the swap and is running Great!  It is a blast to drive everywhere, I don't think there's been a day that someone hasn't stopped to talk about it when out and about.  It is currently utilizing all of the factory Toyota engine accesories as it was equipped before with the gas 4cly engine.  Starter, alternator, using factory harness still so any problems possible in the future could be traced with a Toyota manual.  same power steering pump and factory lines as well.  The A/C components were removed at install, but I still have them, and was planning on making the bracket required to bolt the pump up to the block, just haven't had time to get to it, and being in rainy Washington, was honestly not first on the list,  the heat on the other hand works great and keeps the cab nice and warm all year.  it also has rear heat controls as well.  Has 5 speed manual, and manual transfer case, auto locking hubs so no getting out of the rig to get into 4x4. I have put a lot of time into this build over the last year, and only selling to build a house with new born son here were outgrowing our place were in now. The factory speedometer works just fine, as well as the temp, gas gauge, the tach I have not figured out how to make work yet, the best info I have on that is found on Dakota Digital's website, or just google search "adding a tach to diesel" and you will soon know what I know on that subject.  Seems easy enough, I just don't know what the factory tach is looking for in means of a signal, probably 6 or 7 pulses per revolution, but again, I just haven't had time to investigate.  I did find that others on the web have had success with the digital dakota brand.  I have done over a dozen diesel conversions, Mercedes OM617, VW 1.9 TDI, Cummins 4BT/6BT, and as far as fun to drive, and the added benefit of the huge fuel savings, this is my favorite, and have 2 more trucks I am converting for friends with the same engine.  I do not have any 0-60mph times yet, but am going to have that tomorrow with a video of my driving it in town and freeway.  It is peppier that the 4 cly it had in it.  Runs down the freeway at about 3 lbs boost, and maxes out at 14 psi.  Has a REAL Garrett GT25 Turbo, not an ebay knock off one.  Has oil feed hooked up of course.  If you have any more questions feel free to ask,  you can email direct at craig.craig11@yahoo.com if you would like, or through ebay is fine, just get my personal ones to my phone for faster response.  The exhaust is custom 3 inch one off.  Vehicle is registered in Washington with clean and clear title, and as a diesel.  I am only the 2nd owner, which previous one moved here from Colorado, and I took the pictures with there old plates on.  Don't worry there's no funny business with it.  All vin tags match and are present, has never been in even a fender bender.  Also equipped with tow package.  Has custom boost and oil pressure gauges installed neatly, and look and perform perfect.  All glass is good, power windows work, air bag system is in working order, Tires are Brand new 31x10.50 All Terrains with under 1000 miles on them, also within the last year all of the shocks were replaced, flushed the brake system, and replaced front pads and turned rotors, adjusted the rears, which are currently at over 80% left on them.  All components of the front end are nice and tight, drives straight as an arrow.  Google search "Kubota V2203 engine" and you will soon see it is one of the most commonly used industrial continuous duty engines that are ran and relied upon 24 hours a day 365 days in a row.  Some examples are Bob-Cat skid steers, Kohler Gen-sets, Carrier, and of course Kubota tractors.  They are 100 percent mechanical, meaning no electronics to fail, even has mechanical lift pump bringing the fuel from the factory Toyota gas tank to the injection pump through a spin on fuel filter.  One example of reliability of these engines to put in lame mans terms is: Carrier takes them out of service at 30,000 hours, and still running strong most of the time, well if you averaged the time you drive between in town and highway at 40 MPH, and drove 30,000 hours you would have drove 1.8 MILLION miles.  My goal was to next incorporate a Waste Veggie system for it.  So, why would we not be using these to power our cars, and get rid of years of expensive engine maintenance. Thanks for checking out my truck and look forward to hearing any questions or comments.  Custom install on your rig is available, with a 2 week turn around guaranteed.

The outside of the truck is in nice shape, paint shines up still really well.  interior is really nice, clean with small rip in drivers side seat seam.  I'm going to get some videos up soon of driving in traffic so you can see how well it performs.

So, thanks ebay! For some reason the management of ebay does no longer allow links to videos on you tube.  Just go to You Tube and search exactly "Kubota 4runner" You will see a video of it driving, and click my user name and see the other videos of it.  Sorry for the poor  recording, was trying to drive, shift, and record.  I will have my wife help tomorrow and get a couple more where you can see more hopefully, including the boost gauge.

2017 Toyota 86: The car so nice it's been rebadged twice

Wed, Feb 3 2016

When the dust settles and the Scion brand is no more, the car we currently know as the Scion FR-S will be rebadged. Again. If you remember the excitement that surrounded the Toyobaru/Subota rear-drive sports coupes' introduction, you'll recall that Scion's Subaru BRZ twin landed in here as the FR-S. That car, along with the new iA and iM, will get a stay of execution next year when the brand bids adieu. We know it will wear a Toyota badge in dealers from then on, and there's a good chance it will get the 86 badge European models wear. Toyota's version of the car goes by several different names depending on the market. It's only a Scion in North America, while it's sold as the Toyota 86 (in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa), Toyota GT86 (in Europe and New Zealand again), and Toyota FT86 (in Nicaragua and Jamaica). The 86 part of the name is a nod to the rear-drive AE86 Corollas of the 1980s. That's a history lesson Toyota likely won't have to teach its core demographic. Then again, this car's core demographic probably already bought one. There's also a possibility that this car will get yet another name combination: Toyota FR-S. For the sake of simplicity, let's hope not. View 7 Photos So yes, the rebadged 86 will be re-rebadged back to a Toyota. Functionally this means almost nothing. Buyers who were ordering badge-swap kits from overseas will save some money. Some enthusiast forums might need to change their names. And people visiting from Japan or Europe will feel a little more at home when they see a rear-drive Toyota sports car on the street. Meanwhile, FR-S – a name that may or may not have stood for "front-engine, rear-drive, sport" – will be quickly forgotten. Related Video: Scion Toyota confirmed toyota 86

Toyota Hilux successor spotted

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

The midsize truck segment is suddenly seemingly exploding with new vehicles worldwide, even here in North America. Not only will the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon be available very soon, Toyota is already testing a replacement for its aging Tacoma and Honda has promised a Ridgeline replacement within the next 18 months. Also, the recently shown Nissan Navara is said to portend the future of our Frontier. Here's some more fresh evidence from Europe of this pickup boom with the next generation of its venerable Hilux in testing.
Thanks to Top Gear and sometimes the evening news, the Hilux has built a reputation of being able to go just about anywhere. According to out spy shooter, this particular pickup was spotted during hot weather testing in southern Europe. Interestingly, a Volkswagen Amarok was along for the ride as a benchmark. Because the VW tends to offer a bit more comfort than the generally utilitarian Hilux, this could indicate Toyota is considering taking the new truck in a slightly comfier, more refined direction.
Compared to the current model, this camouflaged tester sports a narrower front grille and headlights. The hood scoop is also absent here. The lower air dam also receives a more horizontal look, but the more vertical fog light housings provide some contrast. The crazy camouflage pattern makes things hard to discern at the rear, but the taillights appear to be more slender than they on the current model. Unfortunately, mechanical details about the new truck remain a mystery at the moment, but enjoy these spy shots as a preview of one more upcoming pickup.

Toyota explains what names like Camry and Yaris mean

Mon, 20 Oct 2014

Ever wonder where automakers get the names for their cars? You're not alone. The sitcom Seinfeld opened Episode 94 - the one where George Costanza buys a Chrysler LeBaron instead of a Volvo - with a bit about nameplates like Integra, Supra and Impreza. Toyota, clearly, is not exempt from choosing evocative but enigmatic names for its models, and now the Japanese automaker is taking us through the etymology of some of its nameplates.
Names like Supra may require no clarification, but what about Camry? That comes from the Japanese word kanmuri for Crown (which is, incidentally, the name of another Toyota sedan).
Yaris? According to the company, it's "an amalgamation of words from Greek mythology and German. In Greek mythology, 'Charis' was a symbol of beauty and elegance. Toyota swapped the 'Ch' with 'Ya' - German for 'yes' - to symbolize the perceived reaction of European markets to the car's styling."
