Sweet 1st generation 4Runner out of Grand Junction, CO (title, plates, records) came from original owner (truly a little old lady), through a broker in GA to me in UT.  Appears to have sat since sometime 4/22/12 (last registration) until only recently.  I bought it (on eBay) in August, shipped it to here to Salt Lake City, UT and was reminded just how slowly these little trucks traverse the steep mountain foothill streets around the Salt Lake Valley.  Perfect for a teenager nearing permit age, right? WRONG!!!  My spoiled teenager will NOT be enjoying this truck, he simply DOES NOT deserve it!  IT MUST GO or he'll think he has the option of driving it this Spring when he turns 15.

This classic truck has a very impressive score on AutoCheck of 55 (given a range of 13-37) but it isn't without needs to make it perfect (if that is what you're looking to do).  This is a great truck and owning one was on MY bucket list since high school.  The broker that procured it from the original owner vouches that the top has never been removed on the truck since new.  I spotted the truck on Bring a Trailer and chose to send for it instead of driving it back from GA myself.  I wasn't at all disappointed with the truck, but moreover am deeply disappointed with my teen's attitude towards the privilege of driving and the responsibilities of doing so that go along with it.  My/his loss, is someone else's gain.

An inspection by an independent mechanic here in Salt Lake (Steve's Automotive Specialists) found;

  • Torn rear wiper blade needs replaced (done).
  • Brake and Transmission Fluid need flushed (also done).
  • Engine has oil "seep" but no leaks - recommend to just keep an eye out for leaks (there are none now).

While sitting for a couple of years didn't do the seals & gaskets any favors, this truck has yet to leak a drop onto my driveway or garage floor in the few months it's been here.  I've driven it a fair amount and haven't had any disappointments.  It hasn't let me down.  It's not a "concours" condition vehicle by any stretch, so please don't expect it to be.  It's 27+ years old and behaves like that (no NAV, manual windows, no Bluetooth). It is being sold "as-is, where-is" with "no warranties expressed nor implied."

Disclosures;

The AC doesn't blow cold, the rear window won't roll up/down from the toggle switch between the seats, but works just fine with the key inserted into the lock on the rear door (which is required to drop the tailgate).

There are 2 very small "stars" on the windshield that have been epoxy filled and 2 small upholstery repairs on the passenger front seat that have been stitched with color-matching thread (see pics).

Aside from the very few slight door dings & surface scratches along the passenger side (one where a reflective door bumper was removed) there are no other marks on the exterior at all.

Truck is riding on an open CO title & Bill of Sale, this could save the buyer significantly when registering in your home state - check local DMV laws/regulations.

I believe in full transparency and full disclosure, so if you have questions - please don't hesitate to text or call 801-580-7917 and ask them in advance of making an offer, please.

Please now low-ball side offers via "ask seller a question" button, I'm offering this truck well below what I'm into it.  If you're not interested in it, that's fine - don't bid & please just move along.

If you are interested, then please take some time to review my 100% positive feedback rating as a seller on cars/trucks from this price ranging up to the six figures+ and then submit your best bid.  Please don't inquire about the reserve, I won't share it - that isn't fair to anyone.  Show your best faith bid, if it works out - then it's a win/win situation for both of us.  If not, it wasn't meant to be for either of us.  Pretty simple really.

This truck is listed locally and elsewhere electronically so I reserve the right to end the listing at any time, so don't miss out!

Incoming Toyota chairman wants a Supra successor

Fri, 14 Jun 2013

We'd venture to guess that in recent years, there have probably been almost as many rumors swirling about a Toyota Supra successor than there have been for a mid-engine Corvette. (Case in point: the speculative renderings we came across a few years ago, pictured above.) While we don't expect the Corvette's recipe to change drastically any time soon, it looks like a Supra - or more appropriately a Supra-like car - could be closer than we think.
First, there was an announcement of a BMW-Toyota joint venture. Said venture would, among other things, "Set up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle."
Upping chances even further, a new Automotive News report claims that incoming Toyota chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada wants a vehicle "comparable" to the Supra. Clearly there are a lot of parties that want a new Supra to happen - to say nothing of enthusiasts - but Uchiyamada might be just the guy to get it done. None of this is proof positive of an impending Supra, to be sure, but winds do seem favorable.

10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.

Toyota Tells Dealers To Stop Selling Six Models

Thu, Jan 30 2014

Toyota has told North American dealers to stop selling six popular models with heated seats because the fabric doesn't meet flammability standards. One soft material beneath the seat covers does not comply with U.S. safety standards, company spokesman John Hanson said. No fires or injuries have been reported, but Toyota can't legally sell cars that don't comply with U.S. safety codes, Hanson said. The company is still totaling how many vehicles are affected, but it will be in the thousands, according to the spokesman. The stop-sale order could mean trouble for Toyota and its dealers because it covers the company's top-selling vehicles. Dealers can no longer sell certain Camry, Avalon, Sienna and Tacoma models from the 2013 and 2014 model years, as well as Corollas and Tundras from 2014. The Camry, for instance, is the top-selling car in the U.S. with more than 408,000 sales last year. It depends on how long the repairs will take. Hanson said the company already has a new material that's being installed at factories and will be put in cars that are on dealer lots. "We don't think it will take long to get the parts and make the changes," Hanson said, without getting more specific. As for vehicles already on the road, Hanson says Toyota has reported the problem to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which will decide if the sold vehicles should be recalled. A NHTSA spokesman said he would check into the matter. "We don't believe that there is a safety issue here because there have been no reports of any problems," Hanson said. The stop-sale order affects cars and trucks distributed to dealers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In addition, some vehicles were exported outside North America, Hanson said. The problem was discovered by safety regulators in South Korea, who disassembled seats and tested individual fabrics, Hanson said. U.S. safety standards require fabrics to resist flames at a certain rate, but the one fabric didn't meet the standard, Hanson said. Toyota spokesman Naoki Sumino in Japan said the affected vehicles were sold since August of 2012, when the fabric supplier was changed. Toyota has been struggling to regain its once sterling reputation for quality after announcing massive recalls over several years, starting in 2009, for a variety of defects including braking, accelerators and floor mats. The company was fined for being slow on recalls, which affected more than 14 million vehicles, and faces lawsuits.
