1985 Toyota 4runner on 2040-cars
Torrance, California, United States
See here for more pictures: http://benmlee.com/4Runner/Selling/85-4Runner-4Sale.htm Bought from originial owner in 1998 with 62k miles in Ventura CA. Installed OME springs, mild 2.5" lift in 1999. The original springs did not last that long at all. These are the best and most expensive springs out there. $1200 back in 90's money. Got the whole package: springs and shocks. New constant velocity driveshaft to prevent vibration from the lift. Only the springs and the side bars are modified. Everything else are original. Engine gasket went out at 130k in 2005. The 22RE is a bullet proof engine, but the head gasket needs to be changed every 100k. Got a brand new OEM crate engine from Toyota (Not rebuild or remanufactured). All OEM parts used for the new engine. Short block, head, cam, gaskets etc. No expense spared. Have all receipts. Currently truck has 148k. Has been sitting under a car cover since rebuilt. Truck has been meticulously maintained. Everything works. Everything has been carefully maintained and documented on this website. Disclosure: There are 4 small rust thru spots. 3 on the windshield and one on top of the rain gutter. Sanded those spots to bare metal and epoxied over them. Did not paint over them, so you can see the size of it. Don't expect this to be a concours example, but a solid well taken care of truck that has been babied all its life. There is really no time for this truck right now. Have not used it for years since the kids, and don't see using it in the near future either. A/C works great. Extras:31" tire and rim.Toyota service tool to maintain the front axel knuckle. This is about the only tool needed for perfect alignment to keep this truck running forever. Pretty rare tool. Other people just rebuild the front end and don't align it. I wanted the tool to make it perfect. OEM Toyota seal and bushing for the front knuckle. Not installed. Don't need it yet, but is there in case the front needs a rebuilt.Front vent window and OEM seals. Have not installed it yet, but got everything needed to install a vent window. Vent windows are great. Once you use them, you don't go back. |

eBay Find of the Day: Back To The Future Marty McFly 1985 Toyota SR5 pickup tribute
Mon, 05 Aug 2013With DeLorean time machine replicas thick on the ground, it was only a matter of time before someone started recreating the other vehicles in the McFly garage. At the end of the first Back to the Future movie, Marty returns to 1985 to find his sweet-looking Toyota SR5 truck all waxed and ready for his date. That truck always did look great in the movie, and now's your chance to own this close facsimile.
This Back to the Future replica Toyota is on eBay with a price of $14,500, which the seller claims is half of what's been invested. Perhaps that's true, but it's still a nearly 30-year-old truck that's covered 280,000 miles. The seller does say the 22RE engine has been recently rebuilt, along with the rest of the drivetrain, and there's new paint, too. The attention to detail is admirable, and if you've always admired Marty's '80s-chic 4x4, now's your chance to own it.
Vehicles awarded IIHS Top Safety Pick awards skyrockets for 2015 [w/video]
Wed, Dec 24 2014By practically every measure, passenger vehicles in the US are continuing to get safer. With the year rapidly coming to an end, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is releasing its annual list tallying of the scores for the latest vehicles to see how they compare to last year. Judging by the agency's evaluations, the numbers look quite positive. According to the institute, 71 vehicles earned either the Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ rating so far in its testing for 2015. Among the latest winners, there have been 33 TSP+ awards and 38 TSP medalists. That's a healthy increase over the 22 TSP+ and 17 TSP grades in 2014. The figures appear even more impressive when you consider that it keeps getting harder to earn the + designation. In the latest round of testing, a vehicle must offer some form of front crash prevention automatic braking to get the mark. Previously, just a warning to drivers was necessary. This list also illustrates the ways that automakers adapt to new testing procedures. In 2013 there were 117 TSP ratings and 13 TSP+ awards. Then, the IIHS mandated that to be a safety pick, a model had to score Good in the institute's four crash tests, plus a Good or Acceptable in the small overlap front test. That brought a plunge in 2014 to just 17 TSP grades. With the numbers climbing again, companies apparently have deciphered how to perform better. Some brands especially stood out on this year's list. The IIHS praised Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Acura for offering standard front crash prevention systems on some models. Subaru received at least one of the awards for all seven of its models. Toyota also had seven, and the Honda brand did too – though the institute counts the two- and four-door versions of the Civic and Accord separately. Check out the full announcement below and a video about this year's winners. The full list can be viewed, here. Safety gains ground: More vehicles earn top honors from IIHS The number of vehicles earning either of the Institute's two awards has jumped to 71 from 39 this time last year, giving consumers more choices for optimum protection in crashes. The number of winners in the top tier - TOP SAFETY PICK+ - has increased by 11 for 2015, despite a tougher standard for front crash prevention. "This is the third year in a row that we are giving automakers a tougher challenge to meet," says IIHS President Adrian Lund.
Eiji Toyoda dead at 100
Tue, 17 Sep 2013Toyota has had number of chiefs over its 76-year history, but none ever served as long as Eiji Toyoda. The younger cousin of the company's founder served as president of the automaker from 1967 to 1982 and as chairman of the Toyota Motor Corporation for another ten years following the unification of the manufacturing and sales divisions.
During his 25 years at the helm, Eiji Toyoda (pictured above in 1967) was credited with establishing the company's headquarters in Toyota City, spearheading the development of the Prius, expanding production overseas for the first time, launching the Lexus brand and turning Toyota from a minor player into one of the largest automakers in the world.
Even after his retirement in 1992, he remained an honorary chairman and close advisor to his successors, and chaired the company's museum. He died of heart failure, ending a 100-year life that started on September 12, 1913, before the company that bore his family's name (albeit slightly modified) had even started building automatic looms, let alone automobiles. We extend our condolences to the Toyoda family and our congratulations on an accomplished life.
