DISCLAIMER- PLEASE READ EVERY WORD.
FIRST I RECENTLY RECEIVED BAD FEEDBACK FROM A BUYER OF A USED 1970 TRUCK, WHO NOT ONLY DEMANDED 1500 CASH IN EXCHANGE FOR FEEDBACK AFTER THE TRANSACTION, BUT AMONG HIS LIST OF COMPLAINTS WAS A LITTLE "WHINING" NOISE IN TRANSMISSION IN I THINK THIRD GEAR, A MISSING "LITTLE SCREW" SOMEWHERE IN THE HEADLINER FRAME, AND A TURN SIGNAL BULB OUT. THIS GUY TAUGHT ME A LESSON. IN HIS ESTIMATION I SHOULD HAVE LABELED VEHICLE A "PROJECT" BECAUSE OF THESE DEFECTS. SO I WILL ENSURE IN THE FUTURE THAT I TRY EVEN HARDER TO COMMUNICATE THE ISSUES WITH A VEHICLE OR PRODUCT TO ANY AND ALL POTENTIAL BUYERS. YOU ARE LOOKING AT A JEEP GRAND WAGONEER. IT HAS 235,000 MILES. THE SURFBOARD AND LUGGAGE RACKS AND PICNIC BASKET ARE FROM A LOCAL PROP SHOP AND DO NOT BELONG TO ME. THEY DO NOT COME WITH THE VEHICLE. IM SORRY. THIS VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN TO ME AS PART OF A DEAL TO RESTORE A GRAND WAGONEER. I HAVE NOT OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR LONG. I DONT HAVE TIME TO WORK ON THIS VEHICLE SO ILL PASS IT ON TO SOMEONE AS A GOOD "PROJECT" I INSTALLED; NEW WIPERS, NEW REAR SHOCKS, NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS, NEW MASTER CYLINDER, NEW OIL PUMP, NEW BATTERY, NEW GROMMETS IN ROOF RACK, AFTERMARKET RADIO. NEW STARTER. I HAD DRIVERS SEAT REUPHOLSTERED. AND INSTALLED NEW HEADLINER. (CARDBOARD ON HEADLINER IS NOT PERFECT AND DROOPED IN SOME AREAS. BUT HEADLINER ITSELF IS INSTALLED PROPERLY. TOP CONSOLE AND FLOOR CENTER CONSOLE WERE ALSO REUPHOLSTERED AS WERE SUN VISORS. NEW WOOD GRAIN VINYL WAS INSTALLED. VERY LITTLE RUST ON VEHICLE THAT IS VISIBLE THE BODY ON THIS TRUCK AND CHASSIS ARE REALLY NICE AND SOLID. GREAT BASE TO START WITH FOR A BEACH WOODY. I ALSO HAVE THE WINDOW FRAME THAT IS MISSING ON THE INSIDE OF REAR PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE JEEP GRAND WAGONEER CHROME EMBLEMS THAT GO ON VINYL. THAT WILL GO WITH THE CAR, OR ILL INSTALL IT FOR FREE BEFORE CAR LEAVES IF BUYER WANTS IT. THE TIRES LOOK ALMOST NEW BUT I CANT ATTEST TO THEIR AGE OR CONDITION. THEY HOLD AIR AND THEY LOOK GREAT. I DONT KNOW IF THEY HAVE BEEN IN A GARAGE TWENTY YEARS OR INSTALLED LAST YEAR. ALL WINDOWS WORK, AND GO UP AND DOWN INCLUDING REAR WINDOW. POWER LOOKS DONT WORK WELL AS WITH ALL THESE CARS. I DONT KNOW IF ITS ORIGINAL PAINT OR NOT, WHO KNOWS WHAT HAS BEEN DONE IN TWENTY YEARS. BODY LOOKS VERY STRAIGHT AND NO SIGN OF VISIBLE DAMAGE. TRUCK RUNS AND DRIVES. ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS NOISY LIFTER BUT I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT APART TO KNOW. TRANSMISSION SEEMS WORN AND SEEMS TO SHIFT OK WHEN DRIVING BUT ITS VERY EASY TO PUT INTO GEAR. I CLEANED OUT CARB AND FUEL PUMP, AND PUT NEW FUEL FILTER AND IT GOT A LITTLE BETTER BUT STILL NOT AS IT SHOULD BE. THIS MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION HAVE OVER 235000 MILES. TRUCK IS NICE NOT A RUST BUCKET, AND HAS A DECENT INTERIOR. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS TRUCK IF YOU ARE NOT THINKING OF REDOING MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION WITH THESE KIND OF MILES. I DROVE TRUCK 30 MILES TO BRING IT TO ME, AND DRIVES. IT IS NOT IN MY OPINION A DAILY DRIVER NOW UNTIL MOTOR AND TRANNY HAVE BEEN GONE OVER. MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION COULD GO ANOTHER 500 MILES OR 3 MILES V8 MOTORS WILL RUN EVEN IF SHOT. A 235K MILE AMERICAN CAR MOTOR IS IN MY OPINION AT THE END OF ITS LIFE IF YOU CANT DOCUMENT ITS HISTORY OR ITS GIVING SIGNS OF WEAR AS IS THIS ONE. IT HAS HAD A LOT OF WORK DONE TO IT, AND CHASSIS IS EXCELLENT, CHECK OUT VIDEO. BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE THIS VEHICLE IS A CANDIDATE FOR MOTOR AND TRANNY REBUILD IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD RELIABLE TRUCK. PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER BUYING THIS TRUCK IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. WHY AGGRAVATE YOURSELF IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DO MAJOR MECHANICAL WORK. THE COSMETICS ON THIS TRUCK ARE VERY DECENT AND IF THE RIGHT PERSON BUYS IT AND DOES THE MECHANICAL WORK, THEY COULD SAVE A LOT OF MONEY ON COSMETICS AND HAVE A NICE BEACH CRUISER. IF I DON'T SELL IT ILL REBUILD DRIVE TRAIN AND JUST RAISE THE PRICE ACCORDINGLY. YOU TUBE VIDEO http://youtu.be/L3-H6igU56w I WELCOME ALL INSPECTIONS. VEHICLE IS AS DESCRIBED. I WOULD LIKE TO SELL IT SO IF YOU WANT TO NEGOTIATE PRICE SOME.... I AM WILLING TO LISTEN. PLEASE IF YOUR INTENTION IS TO PURCHASE VEHICLE WITHOUT ASKING QUESTIONS AND THEN COMPLAIN OR DEMAND MONIES AFTER ITS BEEN PURCHASED I PREFER THAT YOU DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE AND MAKE US BOTH A LOT HAPPIER. THIS IS A USED TRUCK. PLEASE DON'T EXPECT A NEW TRUCK. I CAN NOT DETAIL EVERY SINGLE IMPERFECTION. I DO MY BEST. CHECK OUT ALL RECENT CARS I'VE SOLD. IN THE PAST I HAD COMPLAINTS ABOUT THINGS LIKE VEHICLE NOT HAVING ENOUGH GAS, OR NOT PASSING STATE INSPECTION AT A PARTICULAR STATE. PLEASE BE REASONABLE IN YOUR EXPECTATIONS, I WILL DESCRIBE VEHICLE HONESTLY. . PLEASE NOTE VEHICLES LEAVE WITH A 1/4 TANK OF GAS, FOR SAFETY REASONS . Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint
Sun, Feb 6 2022Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:
Junkyard Gem: 2005 Suzuki Aerio SX Suzuki Works Techno
Sun, Apr 19 2020Americans started buying new Suzuki cars with the debut of the 1985 Chevrolet Sprint and continued doing so through the era of the Geo/Chevrolet Metro and Tracker. Sales of the Samurai mini-SUV took off during the late 1980s, and the Swift sibling to the Metro became available here starting in 1989. The Suzuki American dream— at least the part involving four-wheeled, highway-legal vehicles— came crashing down in 2012, but the 2000s gave American Suzuki fans some interesting-yet-affordable machinery. We got the Kizashi (the side marker lights of which make great jack-O-lantern eyes) and the Suzuki Works Techno package for the Reno and the Aerio in 2005. I found a Reno SWT in California a few months back and figured that would be the first and last Suzuki Works Techno car I ever saw, but then this Aerio appeared in a Colorado car graveyard not long after that. The first two Fast & Furious movies proved to be a tremendous cultural influence on youthful car buyers, and Suzuki created the SWT package to cash in on the hunger for "carbon fiber" and "horsepower" in an affordable package. You didn't get anything that made the car go faster when you checked the SWT box, but you did get alloy wheels and "carbon fiber-styled" stuff all over the place, including the license-plate frame. The SX was the top-of-the-line Aerio in 2005, selling for (well, asking for) $15,449 with front-wheel-drive. That's about $20,900 in 2020 dollars. The hatchback version had some minivan/CUV-ness to its shape. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. In most of the world outside of Japan and North America, this car had Liana badging. Perhaps the most famous Aerio/Liana of all time was the original Reasonably Priced Car on Top Gear UK, a 2002 Liana saloon. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Nobohiro "Monster" Tajima drove a modified-beyond-recognition Aerio hatchback up Pikes Peak in 2001, but it got knocked out by mechanical woes. We can't say what knocked out this Aerio, but it wouldn't have been the interior scent— not with three "Relax" Car-Freshner Little Trees on the job. Sadly, the Relax scent is no longer available. Whatever happened, it involved the car breaking down on a Colorado highway and getting the dreaded "red tag" from the CSP. I see quite a few of these tags on junkyard inmates.
Suzuki and VW finalize their divorce
Thu, Feb 11 2016The rocky divorce between Suzuki and Volkswagen is finally over after working its way through the International Court of Arbitration since 2011, according to the Japan Times. In the final settlement to end the companies' disputes, Suzuki agreed to pay VW an undisclosed amount for not living up to the agreement to use the German automaker's diesel engines. While they won't disclose the exact sum, Suzuki said in a statement that the money "will not have any significant impact" on its 2015 fiscal year results, which will end in March. The arbitration court took the biggest step to end this transcontinental partnership in August 2015 when the body ruled VW needed sell its 19.9-percent stake in Suzuki. However, the Japanese company wasn't entirely off the hook because VW was still allowed to sue for damages over the diesel engine issue. This latest decision finally clears up that dispute. Like most marriages, the union between VW and Suzuki began with stars in both parties' eyes. The Germans paid $2.8 billion to buy 19.9 percent of the Japanese company in December 2009. VW was supposed to get greater access to the auto market in India, and Suzuki hoped to capitalize on access to its partner's advanced technology. By 2011, rumors started percolating that things were contentious behind closed doors. VW allegedly tried to assert control over Suzuki's operations, and the Japanese company reportedly wasn't happy with its access to the German tech. Suzuki even bought diesel engines from Fiat, rather than VW. Later that year, company CEO Osamu Suzuki announced he would end the alliance, and they started working through arbitration. Notification Concerning Resolution of Arbitration by Settlement As Suzuki has reached a settlement regarding the arbitration that Suzuki filed with the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce on 24 November 2011, Suzuki informs you of the following: 1. History from the Request for Arbitration to the Settlement As announced in the "Notification Concerning Arbitration Award" dated 30 August 2015, the Tribunal indicated that it would address the issue of alleged damages arising from Suzuki's breach of the agreement claimed by Volkswagen AG ("VW") in a further stage of the arbitration proceedings. Suzuki reached a settlement with VW in regard to such arbitration proceedings on 10 February 2016. Accordingly, the arbitration proceedings have been concluded. 2.
