I started with a 99% rust free samurai and did the following:

1.  Extended frame, body, and fiberglass top to match the OEM long wheel base model not sold in the US.
2.  Extended the rear driveline (done by professional drive line shop)
3.  Extended brake lines

Condition:
Motor --- no leaks, no smoke, starts right up and runs good.  Does not like to idle until warmed up a little.  Does not burn oil.  Did a leak down test and #1 is very good, #2, #3, and #4 are all fair and within 10% of each other.

Clutch:  good.
Brakes:  good.
Heater core:  I took the entire dash out of the vehicle and disassembled the heater unit, cleaned, and re-installed.  Blows nice and warm.
Windows:  the door windows operate perfectly.  Glass has no cracks or scratches.
Seats:  installed seats from sidekick.  They are quite comfortable.
Fiberglass Top:  I have not installed plexiglass side windows.  I attempted to do the OEM bend in the plexi and while the actual heating and bending is easy, getting the dimensions just right is proving hard.  So....I recommend simply fiberglassing the top so the windows do not roll up onto the topside.  This will make installing plexi windows extremely simple.
Rear Seat:  I have the entire rear seat.  I have stripped all the upholstry from it.  But it comes with the truck.

I have a full set (5) of the stock steel samurai wheels that come with it.  They are black.  They look better than the aluminum ones on it right now in my opinion.

All welding and body work done by a licensed professional. For serious inquiries I can provide a complete photo gallery of the entire project from start to finish.

Suzuki Jimny displays Samurai spirit in Japanese snowstorm

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Say what you will about its smallest SUVs, but you have to hand it to Suzuki: the likes of the Samurai, Sidekick and Vitara were doing the little-sport-ute-that-could thing long before most of the rest of the industry caught on. And the formula remains relevant enough that Suzuki is still selling the same basic Samurai overseas as the Jimny.
That could be why the Samurai still has something of a cult following. Well, that and the name - which, as it turns out, may not have been such a stretch after all. A Samurai warrior, after all, was just one man - but like any other knight, he was worth more than his headcount on the battlefield. Or in this case, a Japanese snowstorm. Just watch the half-minute video below to see what we mean.

Suzuki Authentics Concept is genuine but drab

Sat, 20 Apr 2013

Looks can certainly be deceiving. Have a glance at this new Suzuki Authentics concept, for example - we were told that this would, essentially, be a proper sedan version of the new SX4, but our folks on the ground in Shanghai tell us it's actually much larger. Like, bigger than the Kizashi. (Hey, remember the Kizashi?)
Regardless, Suzuki says that the Authentics concept previews a C-segment vehicle for the Chinese market. A good move, too, since that segment has the highest volume in the Chinese market. (That's why automakers like Ford, for example, have more than one offering in the class.) If we're honest, the Authentics concept looks a bit "meh" for our tastes - there isn't a whole lot of emotion going on here with the design. Consider it a competitor for that spiffy new Ford Escort that also took the stage here in Shanghai.
We don't have any more details about the Authentics concept at the moment, but considering the fact that Suzuki has officially exited the US market, at least we don't have to worry about this thing showing up on our shores anytime soon.

205k Suzuki models being investigated for airbag sensor issue

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

The Detroit News is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation on the 2006-11 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 2007-11 Suzuki SX4 due to issues with the airbag and seatbelt for the front passenger seat. So far, NHTSA has received 128 complaints on these vehicles for airbag warning lights, airbag off lights and seatbelt lights, on a vehicle set that totals around 205,000 units, but there is no indication as to how many, if any, injuries have reported.
Via technical service bulletins, Suzuki has already acknowledged two airbag-related issues with front passenger seats on both vehicles, including a programming error for the passenger seat load indicator on 2009 models and an open-circuit problem for the sensor mat that determines if an adult or child is sitting in the front seat. Since this latter issue would not shut off or lessen the impact of the passenger airbag, Suzuki has already extended the warranty for the seat cushion bottom to 10 years or 120,000 miles. After ceasing new-car sales in the US and Canada, potential recall repairs (which still may or may not happen) would be handled by remaining dealers as laid out in the recent court-approved bankruptcy plan.
