1988 Suzuki Samurai 4.3 V6 Vortec Injection on 2040-cars
Grand Junction, Colorado, United States
We have a 1988 Suzuki Samurai freshly restored and modified up for auction. We started with a clean rust free Colorado truck, then stripped the body and frame down. Starting with the chassis it was modified to accept a fuel injected GM 4.3 Votec engine and 200R4 transmission. The engine was pulled from a low mileage (under 60,000) 2002 Chevy Blazer. We cleaned and inspected the engine before replacing the camshaft to a mild upgrade from Comp Cams. We replaced the water pump and thermostat and replaced the pulleys with polished aluminum ones. The headers are custom built to fit the small chassis and clear the steering linkage. We built a custom cold air intake that pulls from the vents on the side of the hood, it is baffled to keep out hot engine bay air. The radiator is an aluminium unit from Griffin Radiators and runs an electric fan that runs off a thermostat. The transmission is a GM 200R4 that was completely rebuilt including a new torque converter. We used the factory Samurai transfer case after having it cleaned and inspected. The axles were reconditioned with all new bearings, seals, brakes and hardware. We lifted the truck using custom Alcan leaf springs and Rocky Road Outfitter heavy duty shackles. Bringing the total lift over 9 inches. The exhaust is custom built with bungs for O2 sensors and uses a high quality muffler to keep things quiet. We replaced the fuel tank with an extra capacity heavy duty unit from Low Range Off Road. It includes a high volume fuel injection pump and heavy skid plate for protection. We are running BFG Mud Terrain A/T 33/10.5R15 with Mickey Thompson Wheels. The Exterior of this Samurai has been completely restored as well with new white paint inside and out. The floor of the body was bed lined top and bottom for extra protection. The front bumper was replaced with a Warn winch bumper, including a Warn M8000 winch. The rear bumper is a custom unit from Rocky Road Outfitters ready for a spare tire and High Lift jack. The Top is a new from best top. The seats are custom order from Corbeau Seats and ready for your choice of restraints. Shifting is done through a Lokar shifter with led indicator. The transfer case shifter is original but modified and relocated in the body. All gauges are original clean and work accurately. The glass has all been replaced including the windshield and door glass. The door and quarter panel trim is custom from Low Range Off Road as well as window cranks and hardware. A new Kenwood Stereo and Speakers were installed that is blue tooth, I pod and satellite ready. Overall this is one of the cleanest updated Suzuki Samurai's you'll find. This is a vehicle you can jump in, start right up and enjoy driving without worries. Its like driving a new vehicle. DAMD Little D kit makes the Suzuki Jimny look like a little Land Rover
Thu, Nov 15 2018When the new generation of the Suzuki Jimny debuted, it drew plenty of comparisons. Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc. Pick an old-school-styled boxy off-roader, and it would probably work. But one Japanese Tuner is taking the lookalike comparisons to the next level, focusing on one of the most iconic off-roaders of all time: the Land Rover Defender. DAMD Inc., the tuner that also created a body kit to make the Toyota 86 sports car look like the Lexus LFA supercar, is developing a styling kit that makes the Jimny go full Defender. We can't lie, as much as we love the regular Jimny, this looks pretty damn cool, as well. While the public waits for Jaguar Land Rover to launch the next-generation Defender, this imposter will have to do (for people outside the U.S.—the Jimny is still not available here). The nose alterations make the resemblance impossible to ignore. It adds another headlight dimple for the signature trio and has "LITTLE D" lettering above the grille, which ditches the Wrangler-like vertical slats for horizontal bars. It also adds a beefier front bumper with a more prominent skid plate. The mudflaps, knobby tires and off-roady wheels, bare spare tire, and the angled rear bumper complete the look. The rest of the similarities are already part of the Jimny. The boxy body, the wheel flares, and the roof cap are part of the standard model. Beyond the images, there is not much information on the kit. There's no price, but DAMD notes it is scheduled to release in 2019. That gives us just enough time to move out of the country and order a Jimny. Related Video:
Land-speed racer Bill Warner dies from motorcycle crash at 285 MPH
Mon, 15 Jul 2013Motorcycle land-speed record holder Bill Warner died yesterday after crashing during an attempt at setting another record. The 44-year-old was clocked at 285 miles per hour on the runway of a former air base in northern Maine, before he lost control of his modified Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle and veered off the runway.
It is not known what speed he was traveling when things started to go wrong and unclear what caused the crash, which happened shortly before 10:00 AM. Warner's crew suspect there were mechanical difficulties on his last run, in addition to a slight breeze, according to the video news report. Warner was conscious and able to speak after the crash but died an hour and 15 minutes later at a hospital in Caribou. The event and runway were closed for the rest of the day as police investigated the incident.
Warner was participating in "The Maine Event" at Loring Air Force Base in an attempt to reach 300 mph in one mile. Warner's best land-speed record, set in 2011, was 311.945 mph in 1.5 miles on the same runway, according to the Loring Timing Association, a record that still stands today for open-cockpit motorcycles. After that run, Warner said the scariest part was stopping the bike before the end of the runway. Be sure to check out the video news report after the jump.
Suzuki Jimny pickup concept heading to Tokyo Auto Salon
Thu, Dec 27 2018Some of the best news this year is coming at the tail end of 2018. Suzuki's Jimny is already pretty awesome, but for the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, Suzuki is preparing something quite special for its little off-roader: a Jimny pickup! Suzuki based the concept on the Sierra trim level. The truck is designed to be an active sidekick for customers who need the convenience of a pickup for either DIY stuff or adventuring. The retro style is immensely cool: gold bodywork, wood sides, different grille, light bar, white roof and matching white wheels with chromed hubcaps — the entire thing is like a 1970s Suzuki aftermarket parts catalogue applied to a new Jimny. The cab has been shortened to ditch the rear seats, and a short bed has been tacked on without lengthening the wheelbase. If you ask us, the wheelbase even looks shorter than stock. Accompanying the pickup is a "Survive" concept that looks ready for adventuring. The stock bumpers have been replaced with sturdy metal ones that improve the approach and departure angle. There's also an external rollover cage, a winch, custom wheels and some Defender-style aluminum diamond plate. Suzuki says the Jimny Survive has been outfitted for traversing "severe nature" under extreme conditions. We'd happily take both of these mountaineering or even for a weekend trip to the cottage. While both of these trucks are obviously concepts, they show the direction where a Jimny owner could feasibly take their truck. And since some earlier generation Jimnys have been available as pickups, it's not totally improbable to imagine a production Jimny pickup somewhere in the next decade. Here's hoping.
