1988 Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel
This has been my project for the last year and I love these machines. The turbo diesel conversion is something that I have wanted to do for almost 10 years. Unfortunately I'm a student again and in search of a career and need a car instead of a toy. My loss your gain!
Now for the mechanicals of it all. I have almost completely rebuilt this thing from front to back. A year ago I installed new front axle seals and bearings, a new Rampage soft top with a brand new support bow, 5 new BFGoodrich all-terrain 30" tires including the spare and new carpet on the floor. Lifted with Trailtough stock height Bone Shackles and Calmini 3" leaf springs and Calmini shocks. 6 Months ago started the diesel swap and installed ALOT of new parts. Below is the list of what I did to complete the swap:
-Transmission professionaly rebuilt due to 4th and 5th gear missing a tooth. Have old gear if you want a pic.
-Transfer case factory gears reinstalled for proper ratio with lower RPM of diesel engine. (4.16 gears are included in sale if bigger tires are desired later)
-Installed VW 1.9TD AAZ engine out of a 93 VW Golf. Purchased from www.qualitygermanautoparts.com (Have stock video provided by seller if desired)
-Used Rocky Road conversion kit as featured on Extreme 4x4 TV show.
-Upgraded to an Audi 80 radiator which doubled coolant capacity and added a 14" electric cooling fan.
-Autometer diesel tachometer
-Also included with sale are extended length stainless steel brake line for front and rear, 1" driveshaft spacers, and Trailtough 3" lift Bone Shackles that I decided not to use.
-Never could make my mind up on how I wanted to do the exhaust so it has the downpipe with flex pipe to the rear of the vehicle. But it is not loud and you can really hear that little turbo running. Really turns heads when you drive by with a turbo whistle coming from this little jeep.
Now for the rough spots.
-Bought this Samurai while living in California. Almost no rust for a Suzuki this age. The only real rust of concern is on both sides at the base of the winshield. See pics.
-Previous owners were some pretty big fellas. Both seat mounts are crushed down about an in. Easy fix with anyone with a welder or an aftermarket seat kit.
-I have the rear seat but haven't taken the time to mount it yet. 2 bolts and your done.
Do not contact me with offers to help me sell the item or with low ball offers. I do not have to sell the jeep but will for the right price.

Suzuki Jimny Black Bison is real, looks ready to stomp on other off-roaders
Wed, Feb 13 2019The internet darling Suzuki Jimny strikes again, except this time it's considerably less cute in the Wald Black Bison getup. We drove the little SUV late last year and found it to be good, rollicking fun, but this modified version looks like the little ute's foil. Mechanically, the Jimny Black Bison is similar to the normal Jimny. This means it has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder that makes all of 99 horsepower and 95 pound-feet of torque. Yep, that probably wouldn't fly in the U.S. The G-Wagen appearance absolutely would, though. A lift and side-exit exhaust appear to be the most obvious modifications we can see from the photos. The exhaust looks like a page straight out of AMG's playbook for the G-Wagen. Wald has added more than a few extra body parts to make this off-roader look unique. It starts with the aggressive tire and wheel setup, which in turn requires the huge fenders. This gives the Jimny its super aggressive stance you see here. A new front and rear bumper, plus grille, ensure it doesn't look disjointed as a whole. If you like lights, you have plenty of them to choose from here. Additional LEDs are mounted in the lower bumper area, and a couple banks of roof lights are equipped to light the trail ahead. The hood has two massive nostrils that surely aren't necessary for the little engine underneath, but we recognize the commitment to the theme. Finally, there's a roof spoiler that extends higher than any roof spoiler needs to from a car with a top speed of 90 mph. We imagine all the extra bits lower the top speed even further on the Black Bison. No word yet on availability of the Suzuki Jimny Black Bison edition. This vehicle was revealed at the Osaka Auto Messe by Wald, so it's not an official Suzuki vehicle by any means. It would be neat to see the full conversion kit offered to Suzuki owners, but individual sale of the parts is the most likely scenario. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Suzuki previews e-Survivor concept, the cutest ute yet
Mon, Sep 25 2017If you've ever thought of Suzuki as a whimsical manufacturer of small or smallish vehicles, you're going to like what the manufacturer plans to show at the upcoming 45 th Tokyo Motor Show. The e-Survivor Concept reimagines the classic Suzuki jeep as an all-electric vehicle, and it's filled with interesting styling cues both retro and futuristic. The e-Survivor is not only lightweight in construction, it also looks like it, with vestigial wheelarches and see-through doors. The electric motors are housed in the wheels, leaving the ladder-frame construction able to be as skinny as possible. The dashboard houses large screens showing infotainment controls, navigation settings and the vehicle itself, and there are rear-view cameras in place of mirrors. According to the manufacturer, the e-Survivor is a compact SUV of "the next age," which could even hint of an electric 4x4 being the way for Suzuki to survive in this century — or in its second century: the company is 100 years old in 2020, and its concepts show what Suzuki sees beyond that. Perhaps something from the e-Survivor will make production after 2020; independent wheel-mounted electric motors would certainly suit a small, light SUV. Other exhibits are the "tall miniwagon" Spacia Concept, the XBEE crossover available in several different guises, the friendly-looking Carry Open-Air Market Concept and a "neo-retro styled" SV650X bike. Suzuki ending auto sales in Canada, too
Wed, 27 Mar 2013Suzuki of Japan has reportedly made the decision that almost everyone assumed it would make when it announced it was leaving the US market: when the 2014 model year concludes, it will no longer sell cars in Canada. With six employees overseeing its auto business in Canada and a dealer network that has shrunk to 55 outlets in the country, we can't say we're shocked.
At the time of the US announcement, however, the senior VP of sales and marketing in the automotive division of Suzuki Canada said it would be able to survive on its own because, among other reasons, Canadians prefer smaller, more fuel-efficient cars that fit the company's offerings. Five months later, after some time to think about a 30-percent drop in sales to open up 2013 instead of the 1.4-percent increase in sales that Suzuki Canada posted last year, things have evidently changed.
The Globe and Mail reports that as is in the US, Suzuki's motorcycle, ATV and marine divisions in Canada will remain.
