1987 Suzuki Samurai Tintop Hardtop.  This little Sammy is 100% rust free.  I rescued this little 4x4 from the Bakersfield area and brought it home on my motorcycle trailer.  I bought it with the intension of doing a mild restoration and then selling it for around $8,000.

Before I start the work I figured I will test the waters and see what I can get before starting this project.  I have been driving it around town and on a few freeways and it runs good.  I made 73 MPH on the freeway and I was a bit surprised actually!  You really can't be in a hurry driving these little guys because of the whopping 60 or so HP.  There are no leaks from this car and no smoke coming from the tailpipe either.  The air conditioning is all there but the belt has been removed.  I bought a new belt but figure I will wait to tackle that once I get the blower working.  The rear bumper is quite unique and totally custom.  I can only guess what the previous owner used it for but I am a big guy and it supports my weight.  Maybe the truck was used for hunting?  The body is 100% rust free and in pretty good shape.  No real dents or body damage, just really faded and scratched up a bit.  Overall this Sammy is a great candidate for a ground up restoration or you can put a $500 paint job on her and leave it at that.  There is a rear side panel missing in the back seat passenger side.  I have ordered new door handles and inside latches because they were pretty much shot.  There is a small dent on the right side front bumper.  I changed the oil, put on new wipers, sanded and rattle canned the hood.  I also have some 2 inch shackle lifts on the way to give the Sammy a little taller stance.  This Sammy has brand new off-road tires as well but the left tire rubs the left leaf spring only when the wheel is turned all the way to the bump stops.  There is an after market temp gauge mounted where the factory clock used to be since the clock didn't work anyway.  The Sammy runs right at 190 to 195 degrees on a hot sunny southern California day!

Overall this is a great Sammy that we all know is rare.  The Tintop AC cars are tough to come by.

I am open to offers but please no low ballers.  I think the Samurai is worth over $5,000 as it sits but you tell me.  I will help with shipping meaning I will help the driver load it!  Shipping costs will be the buyers expense.  Please ask questions before bidding if you have any and good luck!

Suzuki reopens India plant post-riot with police outnumbering workers

Fri, 24 Aug 2012

Suzuki's plant in Manesar, India builds cars for Australia, specifically its Alto small car. Or at least they were building cars before violent worker riots forced the factory to close. The plant has been idled for five weeks as a result of worker violence that led to the death of one manager and 95 injuries. The riot was spurred over a labor dispute - specifically, a gulf in salaries between temporary workers and their salaried counterparts who earn triple the contract workers' wages.
According to reports, on Tuesday, the factory re-opened with more than 1,200 police officers stationed around the plant. The staff of actual workers at the plant numbers just 75 currently, meaning the police force greatly outnumbers Suzuki employees.
The number of employees will eventually grow to 300, and the officers will run in shifts of 100 at a time, but the initial disparity of workers to police is meant as a show of force to the more than 500 permanent and 500 temporary workers who were found to be involved in a July 18 riot.

Japanese tuner adds 1980s rally flair to the Suzuki Jimny

Thu, Dec 28 2023

Since its launch in 2018, the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny has been modified by a long list of tuners from all over the world. We've seen it turned into a mini Ford Bronco, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class lookalike, a clone of the original Land Rover Defender, and a small pickup truck. The latest Jimny-based builds explore a completely different avenue by giving the off-roader a look inspired by rally cars from the 1980s. Designed by Japanese tuner DAMD for the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, the builds are called Little 5 and Little Delta, respectively. The name says it all: the Little 5 is a tribute to Renault's 5 Turbo and 5 Turbo 2 and the Little Delta draws inspiration from the Lancia Delta Integrale. While both models were hatchbacks, the retro look works surprisingly well thanks in part to the Jimny's small footprint and boxy proportions. Both builds receive the same basic body kit, which includes a deeper front bumper that looks much closer to the 5's than to the Delta's and flared wheel arches, and they ride on OZ Racing wheels. DAMD fitted the Little 5 with a redesigned front end that brings rectangular lights and Renault's diamond-shaped logo, "NON-TURBO" decals on the doors for a touch of humor, and a roof-mounted spoiler. Blue paint adds a finishing touch to the look. Painted red, the Little Delta gets a specific grille with four round lights and bright trim as well as a specific spoiler. DAMD hasn't released interior photos. It looks like the Little 5 uses standard Jimny seats while the Little Delta receives front sport seats. Technical specifications haven't been released, either, but we have a decent idea of what's under the hood. Suzuki offers the Jimny with two engines: a turbocharged, 658-cubic-centimeter three-cylinder fitted to base models in Japan and a naturally-aspirated, 1.5-liter four-cylinder offered in the rest of the world. The decals on the Little 5's doors suggest power comes from the latter, which develops 102 horsepower. We don't know what's next for either concept, but we wouldn't be surprised to see both body kits join DAMD's catalog in the coming months.  Related Video Featured Gallery DAMD Suzuki Jimny Little 5 and Little Delta Aftermarket Design/Style Suzuki SUV Off-Road Vehicles

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013

Wed, 02 Jan 2013

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.
