1987 Suzuki Samurai Tintop Hardtop. This little Sammy is 100% rust free. I rescued this little 4x4 from the Bakersfield area and brought it home on my motorcycle trailer. I bought it with the intension of doing a mild restoration and then selling it for around $8,000.
Before I start the work I figured I will test the waters and see what I can get before starting this project. I have been driving it around town and on a few freeways and it runs good. I made 73 MPH on the freeway and I was a bit surprised actually! You really can't be in a hurry driving these little guys because of the whopping 60 or so HP. There are no leaks from this car and no smoke coming from the tailpipe either. The air conditioning is all there but the belt has been removed. I bought a new belt but figure I will wait to tackle that once I get the blower working. The rear bumper is quite unique and totally custom. I can only guess what the previous owner used it for but I am a big guy and it supports my weight. Maybe the truck was used for hunting? The body is 100% rust free and in pretty good shape. No real dents or body damage, just really faded and scratched up a bit. Overall this Sammy is a great candidate for a ground up restoration or you can put a $500 paint job on her and leave it at that. There is a rear side panel missing in the back seat passenger side. I have ordered new door handles and inside latches because they were pretty much shot. There is a small dent on the right side front bumper. I changed the oil, put on new wipers, sanded and rattle canned the hood. I also have some 2 inch shackle lifts on the way to give the Sammy a little taller stance. This Sammy has brand new off-road tires as well but the left tire rubs the left leaf spring only when the wheel is turned all the way to the bump stops. There is an after market temp gauge mounted where the factory clock used to be since the clock didn't work anyway. The Sammy runs right at 190 to 195 degrees on a hot sunny southern California day!
Overall this is a great Sammy that we all know is rare. The Tintop AC cars are tough to come by.
I am open to offers but please no low ballers. I think the Samurai is worth over $5,000 as it sits but you tell me. I will help with shipping meaning I will help the driver load it! Shipping costs will be the buyers expense. Please ask questions before bidding if you have any and good luck!

Japan may aid carmakers facing U.S. tariff threat
Wed, Sep 12 2018TOKYO — Japan is considering giving carmakers fiscal support including tax breaks to offset the impact from trade frictions with the United States and a sales-tax hike planned for next year, government sources told Reuters on Wednesday. Going into a second round of trade talks with the United States on Sept. 21, Japan is hoping to avert steep tariffs on its car exports and fend off U.S. demands for a bilateral free trade agreement that could put it under pressure to open politically sensitive markets, like agriculture. "If the trade talks pile pressure on Japan's car exports, we would need to consider measures to support the auto industry," a ruling party official said on condition of anonymity because of sensitivity of the matter. The auto industry accounts for about 20 percent of Japan's overall output and around 60-70 percent of the country's trade surplus with the United States, making it vulnerable to U.S. action against Japanese exports. Japan's biggest automakers and components suppliers fear they could take a significant hit if Washington follows through on proposals to hike tariffs on autos and auto parts to 25 percent. Policymakers also worry that an increase in the sales tax from 8 percent to 10 percent planned for October 2019, could cause a slump in sales of big-ticket items such as cars and home. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has twice postponed the tax hike after the last increase from 5 percent in 2014 dealt a blow to private consumption, which accounts for about 60 percent of the economy. To prevent a pullback in demand after the tax hike, the government may consider large fiscal spending later when it draws up its budget for next year, government sources said. "One option may be to greatly reduce or abolish the automobile purchase tax," one of the government sources said. The government is also considering cuts in the automobile tax and automobile weight tax to help car buyers, the source added. Junkyard Gem: 1991 Geo Metro LSi Convertible
Sat, May 14 2022Americans lost the ability to buy a new Detroit-made convertible starting in the 1977 model year (unless you count aftermarket conversions), not regaining it until drop-top Chrysler K-Cars showed up in showrooms in 1981. This gave convertibles a certain magical quality that lasted for quite a while here, and so it seemed to make sense for GM to offer an open-air version of the Geo Metro. Here's one of those cars, spotted in a self-service yard in northeastern Colorado. The Metro was really a second-generation Suzuki Cultus, successor to the 1985-1988 Chevrolet Sprint. While a four-cylinder engine became available in the later Metro (which got Chevrolet badges when the Geo brand got the axe in 1997), all Chevy Sprints and early Metros got this 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine. You're looking at 55 Suzuki horsepower here. The XFi version of the Metro (not available with a convertible top) managed to get better than 60 highway miles per gallon with an engine rated at 49 horsepower. There was an automatic transmission available… for 465 bucks (about $993 in 2022 dollars). That would have added nearly 5% to the cost of this $9,740 car ($20,805 today) and killed the fuel economy, so nearly all Metro buyers got their cars with three pedals. Do you like simple instruments in cars? You'll love the Metro! This one is good and rusty, with some really scary corrosion underneath. I think it sat in a field, buried to the axles, for many years. However, the bra tells us that it once had an owner who loved their then-shiny red convertible. No 1991 competitor could offer a new convertible with a price tag even close to that of the $9,740 Metro LSi. Oh, sure, a ragtop version of the wretched Yugo was available in 1990 and maybe 1991, but that doesn't count. A new Miata cost $13,800 that year, with a Mazda-based Mercury Capri going for $12,588. The 1991 VW Golf Cabriolet cost $16,175, and prices for convertibles just got higher with other competitors. This content is hosted by a third party. Suzuki iV-4 Concept is a personalized 'ute for everyone but US
Wed, 11 Sep 2013It's with some sadness that we present to you the Suzuki iV-4 Concept - there's absolutely no way we'll ever see a production Suzuki based off this conceptual design in the States, despite the fact that the brand has quite a small-SUV heritage on our shores. Of course, we won't be seeing any new Suzuki passenger cars or trucks in the US at all...
For the rest of the world, Suzuki's push with this concept is personalization. According to the automaker, the name is broken down as such: "i" stands for "individuality," "V" for "vehicle," and "4" for "4 wheel-drive." A tad convoluted, perhaps, but we'll roll with it.
As far as its styling, the iV4 doesn't break any new ground for Suzuki, recalling its past and current production models with details that include a clamshell hood and a five-slot grille. Suzuki promises a production variant of this concept, and the "individuality" part will be accomplished through a selection of exterior components, colors and textures, though we're not clear what exactly that means or how it will differ from the accepted practice of ordering a unique car through a dealership.
