STARTS FIRST TIME (WITH CHOKE) EVERY TIME DRIVES GREAT DOWN THE ROAD, GETS SOOOO MUCH ATTENTION TRULY ONE OF THE RAREST SUZUKI 4 X 4 AVAILABLE (SEE NOTE FROM LJ10.COM BELOW)
After 9 years of lj10.com we have found and contacted the original owner of IEC, the importer of LJ10's and 20's We learned that there were 3,300 to 3,500 LJ10 and LJ20's sold by IEC up till 1974 when they sold to USA Suzuki which after that politics and emission standards stopped the sales of LJ's until the Samurai. At one point Suzuki was going to put a 800CC 4Cyl made by Daihatsu into the LJ20's but never did. "Tacoma Wheel" company are the designers of the white aftermarket wheels on the LJ20 that IEC sold as an option and "House of Steel" out of San Diego made the Spare Tire Carriers. The first year IEC sold LJ's approximately 175 rigs were sold, 800 were sold by the second year, 2,500 by the third and then 3,500 in their fourth and final year when USA Suzuki saw that there Was a market for the LJ's, they didn't think there would be in the USA and so did not want to import them and that is when IEC stepped in and well you know the rest of the story. Mexico bought a few LJ's from IEC.
THIS LITTLE LJ10 IS VERY ORIGINAL WITH SOFT TOP AND DOORS, WHICH ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1970 is the first year for the LJ it was called the LJ10 also known as Jimny or Brute IV, LJ stands for Light Jeep, the name Jimny came from a misunderstanding of what was told to some Japanese Suzuki delegates visiting Scotland for the first time. they decided to call their new jeep Jimmy, but somewhere between Scotland and Japan they lost the translation and so they called it Jimny, it was the only 4x4 mass-produced in Japan's domestic mini-car category, the engine size, length and width were regulated in Japan by the Japanese Transportation Guideline in which to be classified as a Mini Car they had to stay within the specified size, and to keep within the length they had to place the Spare Tire behind the driver seat. They also added a third seat behind the passenger seat. The LJ10 came with 16” wheels and tires, horizontal style grille, air-cooled, 4 speed, fold down windshield and only came in a soft-top version. 1972 Suzuki introduced the LJ20 it had a water-cooled engine with 28 horsepower @ 5500 rpm the grille was changed to a vertical style and you could get it in two versions, the LJ20O the O stands for Open or the LJ20V in which the V stands for Van and also had only 15” wheels and tires, if you have or ever seen a LJ20V you’ll noticed they have the windshield tie down “loops” for a fold down windshield but the V doesn’t have a fold down windshield, the reason is they make the same fenders for the O as they do for the V. Suzuki did not only make jeeps with this type of engine etc. they also made what they call a “Carry” L40 which was a enclosed pickup, a L41 which is the same as the L40 but has fold-down bed sides, then the L40V which looks just like a mini van (wow the first true mini van). The LJ20 stayed in production till 1976, LJ's stopped coming into the USA around 1974 possibly due to the US being more strict on emissions. Next was the LJ50 and LJ55 also known as Jimny 550, the engine was changed to a 539 cc 3 cylinder 2 stroke with a horsepower rated 35 @ 5500 rpm, they were also slightly bigger in size because of the lift on the Mini-Car guidelines. 1977 brought the LJ80; LJ81 is the pickup model, they had a 4 cylinder 4-stroke with an overhead cam 797 cc engine with a 42 horsepower @ 5500 rpm. In 1980 the SJ10 came about and then came the SJ410 and SJ413. Up till The Samurai none of these were exported by Suzuki to the USA, the Intercontinental Equipment Corporation brought the most part of the LJ’s to America. (but attempts to find IEC and it's owners has been futile)

Junkyard Gem: 1990 Suzuki Sidekick Convertible
Sun, Jul 17 2022When General Motors decided to create the Geo brand in 1989, for vehicles designed and/or built by Isuzu, Toyota, and Suzuki (strangely, the Daewoo-built LeMans kept its Pontiac badges even as the Corolla-based Chevy Nova became the Geo Prizm), the only Geo truck was the Tracker. The Tracker (later a Chevrolet) was really a Suzuki Escudo aka Vitara, and Suzuki decided to sell these trucks in North America with Sidekick badges. Here's one of those early Sidekicks, photographed in a Denver self-service yard with period-correct aftermarket wheels. The first-generation Tracker and Sidekick were sold here for the 1989 through 1998 model years, after which the Tracker name lived on for a few more years on the second-generation truck and Suzuki ditched the Sidekick name in favor of Vitara and Grand Vitara. Suzuki kept selling Grand Vitaras here until the very end (which came in 2013). This is the first Sidekick I've documented in the Junkyard Gems series, because they never sold as well as their Tracker siblings and have become quite rare. Power came from this 1.6-liter G16 engine, a bored-and-stroked version of the engines used in such machines as the Suzuki Samurai and (four-cylinder) Geo Metro. Carburetors were nearly extinct on new vehicles in the United States by 1990, but you could still buy a few throwbacks that didn't have EFI. Might as well brag a bit with a badge like this one! You could get the '90 Sidekick with a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic, with your choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. This one has the five-speed and 4WD. American Sidekick shoppers had their choice of a two-door hardtop or convertible version; this one is the convertible. It's equipped with exquisitely 1990s spoked wheels, complete with the stretched narrow-tire treatment. The brightly-painted interior trim pieces suggest more of a mid-2000s influence. Just over 150,000 total miles on the odometer. Leaf springs? No, the Sidekick got modern coils. In the Sidekick's homeland, the TV commercials went for a North African look. Related video:
American Suzuki Motors files chapter 11, will no longer sell cars in the United States
Mon, 05 Nov 2012As much as we knew it was a possibility, we have to say that Suzuki's announcement this afternoon that it is filing chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings caught us a bit off guard. American Suzuki Motor Corporation - the sole distributor of Suzuki automobiles in the United States - will realign its business to focus on motorcycles, ATVs and the marine market.
What does this mean in simple terms? In short, new Suzuki cars and trucks will no longer be sold by Suzuki in the United States once current supplies run out. Period.
Suzuki cites "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market."
Suzuki Jimny LCV is a bare-bones two-seater
Fri, Jul 9 2021The Suzuki Jimny is a truly versatile vehicle, and we don't just mean in its prodigious off-road capabilities. Turns out, the compact 4x4 can be configured in a variety of ways to skirt the road tax rules and enthusiast demands of various markets, making it an even more desirable proposition for a budget four-wheeler. The latest variant arrives in the form of the Jimny LCV for the U.K. market. That stands for Light Commercial Vehicle, and as such it's not subject to the same strict emissions rules as passenger cars. It also means that it doesn't come with any rear seats, expanding the cargo area to just a hair over 30 cubic feet. In fact, the U.K.'s emissions laws were so strict, Suzuki was forced to take the Jimny off the market in early 2020. After a year's hiatus, this workaround was the only way to bring the popular SUV back to old Blighty. There's only one trim level to the Jimny LCV. It comes with solid colors, but you can order metallic or two-tone paint for an extra charge, its only option. As with most LCVs, there's a safety partition separating the cargo from the front seats. Compared to the passenger version with all seats folded flat, there's an extra 1.2 cubic feet of hauling space. The Jimny LCV might just be the latest version, but it's not the only one. There's already a narrow-body and small displacement version to qualify it as a kei car in its native Japan. Also, there's the recently announced Jimny Lite to serve as a blank canvas for enthusiasts who want to build their own rig. Like the Jimny Lite, the Jimny LCV comes with analog climate controls as opposed to digital, a traditional stereo in place of a touchscreen, halogen headlights instead of LED, 15-inch steel wheels instead of aluminum and a five-speed manual as the only transmission option. It differs from the cost-saving Lite, however, in that the LCV retains its fog lamps. Of course, it the LCV still retains the things that make it a great off-roader, including the ladder-frame construction, solid front and rear axles, and low-range gearing. In essence, it's a wink to true enthusiasts who missed their chance to get a Jimny prior to 2020. Suzuki U.K. says that it will be "available in very limited numbers" for 2021. So, if you live there and want a new Jimny, the four-wheeling gods have given you a rare second chance. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
