1988 Suzuki Samurai Jx Sport Utility 2-door 1.3l on 2040-cars
Alexandria, Virginia, United States
My 1988 Suzuki Samurai 4WD “soft-top” is for sale….sadly. I am the third owner in its 25 year life and have put a lot of TLC/money into it in time I have owned it. Here is the list (I may well have forgotten some stuff): Since April 2013- rebuilt engine with more recent enhancements to include new front engine seals, heater control valve, vacuum hose, timing belt and spark plugs, cam seal, coolant, and front crank seal (no more leaking oil on my new driveway!). In addition, I have added ($2500 worth I guess)
a new Alpine stereo (CD/Bluetooth with mike); four new speakers (two of which
are ‘outdoor style); new muffler and tailpipe; the original Suzuki Samurai
white Bikini top (incl. striped green storage bag); an OEM black bikini top,
AND a full canvas top which covers entire vehicle (see pic). And..a new LH drivers mirror, new horn,
carpet and mats throughout and a new chrome tow ball with bike rack. Paint is 95% perfect as is the
glass – tires are 99% brand new as well.
IF you are looking for an unmolested all original NO RUST 1988
Samurai, then you have arrived- IF you want a highly modified (or even
slightly modified) Samurai, then perhaps you will want to look elsewhere. This is one of a handful of Samurai’s in the USA with NO rust- hence the higher price. Once rust makes a 'beachhead' on these vehicles, it is almost impossible to stop it from spreading... |

Suzuki could disappear from new car market quickly thanks to low inventory
Tue, 06 Nov 2012Yesterday's announcement that American Suzuki has filed for bankruptcy is all but a death blow for the Japanese automaker's 246 US dealers, but if there's any good news coming out of the situation, it could be the fact that the whole process will likely be quick and painless rather than drawn out. WardsAuto is reporting that with the current inventory and average sales numbers so far this year, there figures to be about three months left for Suzuki's new-car business in the US given current sales rates.
In October, Suzuki sold 2,023 units - a five percent increase over last year - but with just 5,549 left in inventory, it shouldn't take too long to wind down operations. Sales for the brand peaked 2007 with more than 100,000 units sold, but this year, Suzuki is barely on pace to reach a quarter of that amount, with just 21,188 units sold so far in 2012. In addition to poor sales, WardsAuto also notes that Suzuki faced problems due to its reliance on customers with subprime credit.
Suzuki will continue to sell motorcycles, ATVs and marine engines in the US, while the brand's cars will still be on sale in other countries including Canada and Mexico.
American Suzuki Motors files chapter 11, will no longer sell cars in the United States
Mon, 05 Nov 2012As much as we knew it was a possibility, we have to say that Suzuki's announcement this afternoon that it is filing chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings caught us a bit off guard. American Suzuki Motor Corporation - the sole distributor of Suzuki automobiles in the United States - will realign its business to focus on motorcycles, ATVs and the marine market.
What does this mean in simple terms? In short, new Suzuki cars and trucks will no longer be sold by Suzuki in the United States once current supplies run out. Period.
Suzuki cites "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market."
Remembering Suzuki of America... in commercials
Wed, 07 Nov 2012American Suzuki Motors is leaving us, but as long as the lights are on at YouTube, its commercials will stay behind to remind of the times we shared. We dug up nine commercials - sort of like a Time Life infomercial for an entire brand - and among the starring actors are the X-90 improving the 90s with the help of a Pez dispenser, the Peter Pan-ish Sidekick, Optimus Prime getting his pipes all smoked up over the 1987 Samurai and an XL7 that would have sold in the millions if its commercial were even half true.
We've also included a remarkably oddball eight-minute featurette/commercial about a giant Suzuki Swift. You'll find the retrospective in the videos below. Enjoy.
