Trick motorcycle rider breaks world record for fastest wheelie

The world record for the fastest wheelie ever was broken last week in a British racing event by certifiably crazy man Gary Rothwell. It goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway: don't try this at home, kids. On September 20, in at an airstrip in York, England, Rothwell rode his 540-horsepower turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa 209.8 miles per hour over while balancing entirely on his rear wheel. Rothwell beat the previous world record by a whopping 10 miles an hour, according to Gizmag. Rothwell was going overboard to ensure he cinched the title. He was still miffed over his failure to break the record last month. He only reached 197.8 miles per hour in that attempt, just shy of it. Rothwell also holds world records for being the fastest man on skis, which involved him jumping off the back of his bike and being pulled along at 150 miles per hour on titanium skis. He completed the wheelie at the last Straightliners Top Speed event of the year. Straightliners is known for hosting the fastest of anything. This year featured everything from a shed that traveled over 88 miles per hour to a jet-powered shopping cart. They also welcome trick riders of all flavors to come and share their expertise. Drive pits Ariel Nomad against Suzuki bike

Ariel introduced the Nomad at the beginning of the year, which is basically an Atom converted to sand-rail duty with the addition of features like a composite cage and waterproof cockpit, Hella light bar, and Ohlins suspension with hydraulic bump stops. Evo reviewed it not long after, now Drive has got hold of it and put Steve Sutcliffe at the wheel, sending him to the Sweet Lamb Rally Center in Wales. The Nomad in this guise also gets a winch and BF Goodrich tires with a rear high-mounted spare. The motor is a US-spec, 2.4-liter Honda unit tuned to 240 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque, all going to the rear wheels only. The weight is just 1,477 pounds. For kicks, they sent Northern Irish motocrosser Graeme Irwin along to give Sutcliffe a point of reference. We're used to seeing cars battle bikes, and unless it's wet or the race goes to beyond 200 miles per hour the bike almost always takes it. Irwin was on his Suzuki RMZ-450, a bike with about 60 hp, but that, combined with Irwin's skills, was plenty enough to keep Sutcliffe hard at work. You can watch the dust fly in the video above. Jaguar I-Pace named World Car of the Year

NEW YORK — The Jaguar I-Pace has been named World Car of the Year, an award meant to honor the most significant new car introduction and conferred by an international jury of automotive journalist judges. The group announced the winners of additional awards at the New York Auto Show, with the Audi A7 named World Luxury Car of the Year, the McLaren 720S recognized as World Performance Car of the Year, and the Suzuki Jimny named World Urban Car. The I-Pace additionally took home two other awards: World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car of the Year. The WCOTY team of 86 jurors hail from 24 countries, and the organization is independent and not tied to any publication. This is the 15th year for the awards. For this year's World Car of the Year award the top three finalists were the I-Pace, the Audi E-Tron, and the Volvo S60/V60.
