Marshalltown, Iowa, United States

This Samurai has been my personal daily driver for the past six months and is well tested.  Rod's Auto Sales, also known as SamuraiSalvage, located in Marshalltown, IA is selling this reconditioned Samurai at auction.   (Google SamuraiSalvage to find our website).  (We offer the nation's largest collection of new and used Samurai, Sidekick and Tracker parts---call Rod at 641-751-2468 with questions).  The 1988.5 Samurai was the best and last tin top imported to the U.S. Updates included:  lower usable 5th gear ratio, larger radiator, outboard sway bar (making it more stable), improved leaf springs with teflon inserts (for a much better ride), improved interior, improved seats with 2" more leg room.  This Samurai has many new parts replaced by our shop, which include:  our 100 horse engine with newer Weber and Pacesetter header (approx. 30,000 on engine), new brakes, new wheel bearings, new exhaust system, new heavy duty clutch, rebuilt transmission and transfer case.   Very good interior.  Excellent dash with AM/FM radio. Digital clock.  Two  after market super-bright interior lights.  Everything works, including all lights, wipers, washer, etc... Heater works great and has new 195 degree thermostat.  Samurai has the maximum sized 235x75R15 A/T tires that will fit without having a lift kit.  New 2" wheel spacers have been installed making a 4" wider stance, making it much more stable.  These tires do not need the spacers for clearance and they may be removed if you do not want the tires sticking out of the flares.  It has a heavy duty Stow Master folding tow bar included (See in photos). This set-up is very easy to use and always there when you need it.  It has a rear tow bar with a new 2" receiver.  The Samurai can be flat towed with transmission in second gear and transfer case in neutral and the hubs in free position.  (see photo of  it being towed). The new heavy duty, powder coated roof rack/basket will be sold as a $1200 option.  You will add this price to the selling price if you want the roof rack. This roof rack is heavy duty and ready to carry your trophy beast!  (See our SamuraiSalvage Facebook page to see past customers with their custom built Samurais). This Samurai has our 1.3 Hi-Po engine, Weber carburetor, HD clutch kit and Pacesetter header with new exhaust. Price for this package alone is $3,000 plus $1,000 installation. Rebuilt transmission is $799. Rebuilt transfer case is $799, plus installation.New brakes, New wheel bearings. Transmission shift lever update. Transfer case shift lever update. Heavy duty steering stabilizer. All this is included in your winning bid. Please consider all of this when bidding or making offers. Reserve is very reasonable. I will do a buy now and end auction early if interested, then ship it to you ASAP. This Samurai has plenty of power to run 60-65 mph.  We can install optional equipment such as:  reduction transfer case gears, winch bumper/winch, lift kit, lockers, larger tires, etc. for extra $$.  This Samurai is also for sale on our lot and we reserve the right to end the auction early for a buy now sale.  Once the reserve is met, it will no longer be for sale outside of this auction, making it fair for all bidders.  We can provide reasonable transport quotes for delivery right to your driveway!  Call Rod at 641-751-2468 with any questions.  (We sell all new and used Samurai and Sidekick parts.  Google SamuraiSalvage for a complete inventory.)  The Samurai is the only street legal SUV that is narrow and light enough to be registered for Iowa and other states DNR rules.  The Samurai is 60"  wide---the maximum width for these ORV parks is 62" wide.  Check your home state rules.

Suzuki Jimny displays Samurai spirit in Japanese snowstorm

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Say what you will about its smallest SUVs, but you have to hand it to Suzuki: the likes of the Samurai, Sidekick and Vitara were doing the little-sport-ute-that-could thing long before most of the rest of the industry caught on. And the formula remains relevant enough that Suzuki is still selling the same basic Samurai overseas as the Jimny.
That could be why the Samurai still has something of a cult following. Well, that and the name - which, as it turns out, may not have been such a stretch after all. A Samurai warrior, after all, was just one man - but like any other knight, he was worth more than his headcount on the battlefield. Or in this case, a Japanese snowstorm. Just watch the half-minute video below to see what we mean.

The Suzuki Misano is a concept car inspired by motorcycles

Mon, May 3 2021

Lately, concept cars have become showcases of touchscreens and batteries, but remember not that long ago when they used to get you excited about automobiles, driving, and design? Now Suzuki, of all companies, has unveiled a concept that brings us back to the stirring show cars from a bygone era. The Suzuki Misano is a low-slung, open-top sports car that asks the question, what if there was a four-wheeled motorcycle? Inspired by the Japanese firm's long history of high-performance two-wheelers, the Misano seeks to "merge the adrenaline rush on two wheels with the driving experience on four." The Misano caps off a thesis project for 24 students of transportation design at Istituto Europeo di Design Torino with collaboration from Suzuki. It has a footprint of 157 inches by 69 inches, or about the length of a BMW i3 and the width of a VW Polo. Its height, however, measures only 39 inches, about 50 percent shorter than a Toyota Yaris hatchback. Like concept cars of old, the Misano does pack in one wacky idea that has no chance of making it into production. It offers a tandem 1+1 seating position, even though it's wide enough for a side-by-side construction. Not only that, but the seats are off to one side. We would've expected a side-mounted motorcycle engine on the other, but it actually contains a trunk and small battery pack. Presumably, the Misano is an EV. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Strictly speaking, it's a barchetta because it has no mechanism for covering the cockpit and barely a windscreen. In lieu of a steering wheel, the car is controlled by what the IED statement calls a motorcycle-inspired yoke. Clear openings in the doors provide a view of the road that only a motorcycle can match. It's not the first time Suzuki has answered the question of a four-wheeled motorcycle. In 2001, it showed the Hayabusa-powered GSX-R/4 concept, which featured a more traditional seating position. The Misano is just the right amount of beautiful design and bonkers-ness that makes you wish for an alternate universe where it would make it into production. But alas, we know it'll be a miracle if Suzuki ever makes a sports car again. If you happen to be in Italy and want to check out the Misano for yourself, it will be on display at the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile di Torino from Saturday May 15th to Sunday June 6th 2021. Larger SX4 to lead raft of new or revised Suzuki models

Thu, 30 Aug 2012

A few weeks ago, we showed you what is likely in store for the next-generation Suzuki SX4, but What Car? now has some insider info of what might be in store for other products in the aging Suzuki lineup... at least in the UK.
When the official design sketch of the Suzuki S-Cross concept was released, Suzuki said that the concept car would be a C-segment crossover, closer in size to the Grand Vitara, and going up against some higher-volume rivals like the Ford Kuga (Escape) and Nissan Qashqai (similar to our Rogue). The Suzuki Grand Vitara is also due for a redesign, and both models will likely be on showroom floors together, with the Grand Vitara acting as the more rugged alternative to the hatchback-like SX4 replacement. Not much is known about the new Grand Vitara, but a new satellite navigation system is expected to debut in the SUV and eventually spread into other Suzuki models.
Suzuki will start selling the new SX4 and Grand Vitara in the United States this fall, and these two new crossovers should be a welcome addition to the company's diminutive U.S. dealer network that has been starved of product since the early 2000s. Automotive News adds a little gloom to this topic by pointing out that, after the introduction of the new SX4 and Grand Vitara this fall, American Suzuki has no new products planned through the 2015 model year. Suzuki dealers in Europe are more fortunate, as a refreshed version of the Jimny (formerly known as the Samurai here in the States) and an all-new Alto will both be joining the lineup.
