1988.5 Suzuki Samurai 4x4 Tin Top Roof Rack Suv Hunter's/sportsman's Special! on 2040-cars
Marshalltown, Iowa, United States
This Samurai has been my personal daily driver for the past six months and is well tested. Rod's Auto Sales, also known as SamuraiSalvage, located in Marshalltown, IA is selling this reconditioned Samurai at auction. (Google SamuraiSalvage to find our website). (We offer the nation's largest collection of new and used Samurai, Sidekick and Tracker parts---call Rod at 641-751-2468 with questions). The 1988.5 Samurai was the best and last tin top imported to the U.S. Updates included: lower usable 5th gear ratio, larger radiator, outboard sway bar (making it more stable), improved leaf springs with teflon inserts (for a much better ride), improved interior, improved seats with 2" more leg room. This Samurai has many new parts replaced by our shop, which include: our 100 horse engine with newer Weber and Pacesetter header (approx. 30,000 on engine), new brakes, new wheel bearings, new exhaust system, new heavy duty clutch, rebuilt transmission and transfer case. Very good interior. Excellent dash with AM/FM radio. Digital clock. Two after market super-bright interior lights. Everything works, including all lights, wipers, washer, etc... Heater works great and has new 195 degree thermostat. Samurai has the maximum sized 235x75R15 A/T tires that will fit without having a lift kit. New 2" wheel spacers have been installed making a 4" wider stance, making it much more stable. These tires do not need the spacers for clearance and they may be removed if you do not want the tires sticking out of the flares. It has a heavy duty Stow Master folding tow bar included (See in photos). This set-up is very easy to use and always there when you need it. It has a rear tow bar with a new 2" receiver. The Samurai can be flat towed with transmission in second gear and transfer case in neutral and the hubs in free position. (see photo of it being towed). The new heavy duty, powder coated roof rack/basket will be sold as a $1200 option. You will add this price to the selling price if you want the roof rack. This roof rack is heavy duty and ready to carry your trophy beast! (See our SamuraiSalvage Facebook page to see past customers with their custom built Samurais). This Samurai has our 1.3 Hi-Po engine, Weber carburetor, HD clutch kit and Pacesetter header with new exhaust. Price for this package alone is $3,000 plus $1,000 installation. Rebuilt transmission is $799. Rebuilt transfer case is $799, plus installation.New brakes, New wheel bearings. Transmission shift lever update. Transfer case shift lever update. Heavy duty steering stabilizer. All this is included in your winning bid. Please consider all of this when bidding or making offers. Reserve is very reasonable. I will do a buy now and end auction early if interested, then ship it to you ASAP. This Samurai has plenty of power to run 60-65 mph. We can install optional equipment such as: reduction transfer case gears, winch bumper/winch, lift kit, lockers, larger tires, etc. for extra $$. This Samurai is also for sale on our lot and we reserve the right to end the auction early for a buy now sale. Once the reserve is met, it will no longer be for sale outside of this auction, making it fair for all bidders. We can provide reasonable transport quotes for delivery right to your driveway! Call Rod at 641-751-2468 with any questions. (We sell all new and used Samurai and Sidekick parts. Google SamuraiSalvage for a complete inventory.) The Samurai is the only street legal SUV that is narrow and light enough to be registered for Iowa and other states DNR rules. VW, Suzuki mulling rekindling relationship in face of legal battle
Sat, 27 Jul 2013Volkswagen and Suzuki have been undergoing marriage counseling in a bid to avoid finalizing their nasty divorce. The blissful union has been troubled for some time, with Volkswagen claiming that it could affect operational decisions at Suzuki, and the Japanese brand's sniping and constant flirting with a certain Italian temptress causing rifts.
The matter first went to court in 2012, when Suzuki demanded VW get out, and leave its 19.9-percent stake in the Japanese brand in a box to the left. Now, Automotive News is reporting that the company will give the relationship one last shot, according to closed-door dealings between the two in London.
Still, it's understood that VW and Suzuki recognize the benefit of their alliance, and that it'd be in the best interests of the kids both parties to make things work. Spokespeople declined to comment to AN, but the newsmagazine spoke with Frank Biller, an analyst for LBBW in Stuttgart, who said, "Both companies stand to benefit if they can overcome the disagreements over leadership claims."
Suzuki Jimny Black Bison is real, looks ready to stomp on other off-roaders
Wed, Feb 13 2019The internet darling Suzuki Jimny strikes again, except this time it's considerably less cute in the Wald Black Bison getup. We drove the little SUV late last year and found it to be good, rollicking fun, but this modified version looks like the little ute's foil. Mechanically, the Jimny Black Bison is similar to the normal Jimny. This means it has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder that makes all of 99 horsepower and 95 pound-feet of torque. Yep, that probably wouldn't fly in the U.S. The G-Wagen appearance absolutely would, though. A lift and side-exit exhaust appear to be the most obvious modifications we can see from the photos. The exhaust looks like a page straight out of AMG's playbook for the G-Wagen. Wald has added more than a few extra body parts to make this off-roader look unique. It starts with the aggressive tire and wheel setup, which in turn requires the huge fenders. This gives the Jimny its super aggressive stance you see here. A new front and rear bumper, plus grille, ensure it doesn't look disjointed as a whole. If you like lights, you have plenty of them to choose from here. Additional LEDs are mounted in the lower bumper area, and a couple banks of roof lights are equipped to light the trail ahead. The hood has two massive nostrils that surely aren't necessary for the little engine underneath, but we recognize the commitment to the theme. Finally, there's a roof spoiler that extends higher than any roof spoiler needs to from a car with a top speed of 90 mph. We imagine all the extra bits lower the top speed even further on the Black Bison. No word yet on availability of the Suzuki Jimny Black Bison edition. This vehicle was revealed at the Osaka Auto Messe by Wald, so it's not an official Suzuki vehicle by any means. It would be neat to see the full conversion kit offered to Suzuki owners, but individual sale of the parts is the most likely scenario. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Which automaker's 84-year-old CEO is making investors nervous?
Sun, 06 Jul 2014We haven't heard much about Suzuki since it decided to leave the US market in 2012, but things are going well for the little automaker these days with the recent announcement of record annual profits. It would seem that investors should be ecstatic, but they are starting to question the man at the helm. Company president and chairman Osamu Suzuki is now 84 years old and is guaranteed at least one more year as the leader, but shareholders want to know who is taking his place when the inevitable happens.
We're not being ageist, here. As long as the Suzuki can run the company to the satisfaction of investors, he absolutely deserves the top spot. According to Bloomberg, the issue making shareholders so edgy is that the business doesn't have a transition plan in place. The president obviously isn't a young man, and folks are worried that if something happens suddenly, there could be chaos deciding a successor and a free-falling stock price.
Suzuki's tenure at the company is somewhat astounding. He married the granddaughter of the founder and took her name because the family had no male heirs. In world where many people hope to retire as soon as possible, he's worked for the same automaker for the last 50 years, including stints as company president from 1978 to 2000 and 2008 to the present. Investors aren't questioning the president's ability as a business leader; they just want a clearer understanding of the automaker's future direction.
