This Samurai is a 1987 4x4 soft-top 1.3L with many new features. It has been a great daily driver since I've had it the past 4 years. It's a beautiful and fun vehicle with tons of personality. It just made a 2,100 mile trip from Kentucky to Los Angeles in 3 days with no problems.  It has a new engine head and a remanufactured engine that runs very strong. It has been a project car of my father and myself for the past few years.  The entire front suspension (see details below) was replaced so there are NONE of the infamous wobble issues. However, being a 17 year old vehicle, it recently developed some other mechanical issues that I don't have the time to fix and am moving on to something more reliable (see below). Registered Kentucky title in hand.

Newly replaced parts:
  • Remanufactured engine installed 3 years ago by John's Foreign Engines
  • New Exhaust system replaced as well by John's Foreign Engines
  • Brand New Engine Head (see pictures)
  • New Tires (see pictures)
  • New Paint (see pictures)
  • Rhino Liner sprayed interior
  • New Front shocks
  • Steering knuckle replaced
  • New Steering stabilizer shock
  • Drag link replaced
  • Tie rod replaced
Features:
  • Winch - 3,500lb remote operated
  • Off-road metal brush guard
  • Center console Lock-Box w/ key
  • Custom roof rack with off-road lights (switch operated)
  • Removable back bench-seat
  • Portable Speaker with auxiliary plug for iPod/MP3 player
  • Custom "Dark Knight" grill emblem
Exterior:
The body is in great shape for an '87 with no rust on the frame and a new paint job.  It looks very sharp with very minor scratches and a small ding on the passenger side door (see picture). The windshield has has a couple dings where rocks hit but no cracks. The trim below the doors was taken off and the metal sanded down and painted but there are the holes still there where the previous trim was inserted.

Interior:
The interior is in fair shape.  The floors have a Rhino Liner.  The vinyl seats are in good shape with no major tears or cracks, the dash is a little beaten up but still looks decent. Also there is no radio but all the wiring is still there. Windows and locks all work. no tears in the soft-top.

Known Issues:
The vehicle was driving great and I was using it everyday then one day after I had just driven it I went to start it and the engine would begin to turn over but then the starter would make a screeching noise. I spoke to a mechanic and he showed me that the starter itself was loose and wasn't able to engage, he assured me it was an easy fix.  I'd do it myself but I don't want to have to deal with it so I'm selling as is. Also the clutch acts up after the car has been driven for more than 15 minutes.  It shifts fine, but after the car is warmed up it begins to grind a little in 1st and 2nd gears, no idea what that could be, but it is absolutely drivable.  Could be a very simple fix or something else.  With a little TLC this could be a great and fun vehicle, the engine runs strong and the new front-end suspension, tires and excellent body frame condition make it a great Sami to fix up or use for parts. Other known issues:
  • No A/C
  • Horn and wind shield wipers don't work
  • No in-dash radio (it's a portable speaker that plugs into the cigarette lighter with AM/FM/AUX for iPod)
The vehicle currently will NOT start and is sold AS-IS.  I have it parked right next to a mechanic and can have it fixed for reimbursement so it will be drivable, or you can pick it up.  I can also assist in delivery, but the buyer is responsible for paying to acquiring the vehicle.  Payment from the buyer should be made by cash, check or Paypal within 3 days of the auction ending. If it is a check I will have to wait for the funds to clear before signing over the title.

Suzuki, please come back and bring the Alto Works with you

Fri, Dec 25 2015

The list of JDM vehicles we'd love to see imported into the United States keeps growing. But if there's one we could wish for in 2016, we dare say it's the one you see here. It's called the Suzuki Alto Works, and it looks like an absolute riot. The Alto, for those unfamiliar, is a tiny little Kei car. It rides on a 97-inch wheelbase and weighs less than 1,350 pounds, which makes it not only smaller than a three-door Mini, but also about half its weight. All it needs is a 660cc inline-three to pull it around the streets of Tokyo. And perhaps best of all, where the previous Alto adopted rounded, cutesy styling, the new model introduced in Japan a year ago takes a more squared-off, industrial design that looks much better to our round eyes. Suzuki made a punchy little Alto Turbo RS version (which you can scope out in the extra gallery below) that increased output to a still-puny 64 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque. And it won multiple awards for its compact, fun-to-drive nature. But now the Japanese automaker has made the Alto even more enticing with the new Works model. It's based on the aforementioned Turbo RS, but packs some key upgrades. Where the Alto Turbo RS was only available with an automatic, the new Alto Works can be had with a short-throw five-speed manual – driving either the front wheels alone or all four. Suzuki also boosted output modestly to 74 lb-ft, improved the throttle response, and recalibrated the steering for better accuracy. New 15-inch wheels are fitted to a retuned suspension with KYB shocks. It's all done up in a gunmetal finish with black trim, red-painted front calipers, and an interior with Recaro racing buckets, steel pedals, red stitching, and a boost gauge that changes color from white to red as it spools up. All of that can be had from only 1,509,840 yen, which may look like a lot, but translates to just $12,500 at current exchange rates. If only Suzuki still sold in the US market, because it does some of the best little hatchbacks around. And the new Alto Works looks like it'd be a hoot to drive.

Suzuki Jimny displays Samurai spirit in Japanese snowstorm

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Say what you will about its smallest SUVs, but you have to hand it to Suzuki: the likes of the Samurai, Sidekick and Vitara were doing the little-sport-ute-that-could thing long before most of the rest of the industry caught on. And the formula remains relevant enough that Suzuki is still selling the same basic Samurai overseas as the Jimny.
That could be why the Samurai still has something of a cult following. Well, that and the name - which, as it turns out, may not have been such a stretch after all. A Samurai warrior, after all, was just one man - but like any other knight, he was worth more than his headcount on the battlefield. Or in this case, a Japanese snowstorm. Just watch the half-minute video below to see what we mean.

DAMD Little D kit makes the Suzuki Jimny look like a little Land Rover

Thu, Nov 15 2018

When the new generation of the Suzuki Jimny debuted, it drew plenty of comparisons. Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc. Pick an old-school-styled boxy off-roader, and it would probably work. But one Japanese Tuner is taking the lookalike comparisons to the next level, focusing on one of the most iconic off-roaders of all time: the Land Rover Defender. DAMD Inc., the tuner that also created a body kit to make the Toyota 86 sports car look like the Lexus LFA supercar, is developing a styling kit that makes the Jimny go full Defender. We can't lie, as much as we love the regular Jimny, this looks pretty damn cool, as well. While the public waits for Jaguar Land Rover to launch the next-generation Defender, this imposter will have to do (for people outside the U.S.—the Jimny is still not available here). The nose alterations make the resemblance impossible to ignore. It adds another headlight dimple for the signature trio and has "LITTLE D" lettering above the grille, which ditches the Wrangler-like vertical slats for horizontal bars. It also adds a beefier front bumper with a more prominent skid plate. The mudflaps, knobby tires and off-roady wheels, bare spare tire, and the angled rear bumper complete the look. The rest of the similarities are already part of the Jimny. The boxy body, the wheel flares, and the roof cap are part of the standard model. Beyond the images, there is not much information on the kit. There's no price, but DAMD notes it is scheduled to release in 2019. That gives us just enough time to move out of the country and order a Jimny. Related Video:
