I bought this about a year ago. Since then I have replaced the stock carb with a Weber conversion, powdercoated a few engine parts, and installed a tach. Also has a new battery and exhaust. The carb has a manual choke routed to the left of the steering wheel. Since installing the Weber I have consistently hit 27-30MPG. This thing is a blast to drive. Chances are if you are looking at this you know what it is. Other than the above listed, it is stock. No suspension lift or larger wheels and tires. Everything works! Hubs lock, 4x4 works. Even the wiper squirters work. Motor: stock 1.3L with the Weber carb. New exhaust is minus the cat. converter. I was told by the previous owner that the motor was freshened up but I have no proof. I will state that the alternator and water pump look new. Fires right up and runs great. It is CLEAN as far as rust goes. The underside is solid. Rockers are solid. You will notice surface rust near the hinges, around the battery box, and a few spots under the rear windows (see pics). The bottoms of the doors are completely solid but have a few surface rust spots. I have had this garaged since I bought it and refused to drive it during the winter due to how rust free it is. The paint is not show quality but still looks good and appears to be original. There is a dent on the drivers rear corner (see pic). The interior is stock and seats have small tears. Back seat included but removed as I transport my dog in the back. Glove box door hinge is broken but door stays in place. Now for the bad: oil leak from bottom end (either pan or rear main), second gear synchro is starting to go. Still shifts fine if you are used to it, but if not second will grind. The interior floor looks bad and carpet is shot. If I were going to keep it I would Linex the inside, fix the leak, and deal with the trans until I had the time to pull it. I am trying to be as honest as possible and have therefore pointed out as much negative as I can. These are all easy fixes for most. This sammy is not all cut up and beat on. It would make an excellent starting point for a new build or simply a great driver to tool around in. Feel free to contact me. Come by for a look and test drive. Mileage currently at 90,000. Suzuki Alto goes back to basics in Japan
Wed, Dec 24 2014Believe it or not, you're looking at a brand new car. Not an old model from the '80s that's still being manufactured in some far-flung corner of the world, not a rehash of old technologies, but an all-new model introduced in Japan for the Japanese domestic market. Looking like a cross between a Jimny and a VW Up!, the new Suzuki Alto is a different machine entirely from the somewhat ungainly but comparatively modern model of the same name manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki for markets around the world. This is the JDM version, built to Kei car specifications, and shares little more than its badges with the Indian model. Based on a supposedly all-new platform, the new Alto boasts what Suzuki claims is the best fuel economy of any non-hybrid in Japan. That's partially because of its spritely curb weight, down by 132 pounds over the model it replaces to tip the scales at just 1,345 pounds. That's over 600 pounds lighter than a Smart Fortwo. The whole thing rides on a tiny 97-inch wheelbase, of which 80 inches are taken up by the passenger compartment. Power comes from a 660cc three-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed automated manual or CVT in a number of configurations that ought to help Suzuki sell even more of these than the 4.8 million Altos it's sold in Japan alone since its introduction 35 years ago. Suzuki brings slew of car and bike concepts to Tokyo
Fri, 22 Nov 2013As an automaker, Suzuki may be long gone from American shores, but it's still a force to be reckoned with in its home country of Japan. At this week's Tokyo Motor Show, the brand known as much for its two-wheeled fare as its four displayed a slew concept vehicles for both drivers and riders.
The first is the Crosshiker concept (above), which Suzuki says is a followup to the Regina concept that debuted two years ago at the Tokyo show. Based on the same platform but elevated to the stance of a crossover, the Crosshiker is motivated by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine, keeping it eco-chic while appealing to adventurous types with its fun styling.
Next up is the X-Lander Concept (above, left) that Suzuki says was made for use in the city and "sometimes go out to play in the field." Based on the Japanese-market production Jimny, the X-Lander features four-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain with a 1.3-liter engine.
Next Suzuki SX4 spotted again
Wed, 05 Sep 2012Thanks to a sketch of the Suzuki S-Cross concept, we can already see the styling direction that the next-generation SX4 will take, and Suzuki is still hard at work on the production version of the car as evidenced by this latest batch of spy shots. These photos look almost identical to those captured back in July, but we see a little more detail at the rear of the car and get a better idea of the next SX4's proportions.
With the baggy camouflage lifted up at the rear of this prototype, we can see that the SX4 replacement has a very Mazda-chic look to it with downward-angled taillights that stretch into the liftgate. Aside from this, the big news is that we're finally getting a sense of the new SX4's size. Suzuki's press release attached to the Paris-bound S-Cross sketch said that the SX4 replacement would be growing to the compact segment rather than being a subcompact like the current car. Recent reports indicate that the next version of this car will be sized closer to the Grand Vitara, and in these pictures, you can definitely see how much the car has grown.
Still unknown is when we can expect to see the production version of the new SX4, or what will be inside it (available turbo power?), but hopefully Suzuki will not delay things like it did with the Kizashi and its numerous concepts.
