Mileage 213638

Inspection 10/14

Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

The mileage on this vehicle is a combination of route miles and regular driving miles, I worked 25 miles from home so 50 miles per day were for driving back and forth and 38 miles for the route 11 days in two weeks. The last 18 months it has not been used often.

Air conditioner and heater work very well.

This car has ran well the 6 years I’ve had it. It is very reliable and if I didn’t need the money I wouldn’t be selling it. Also I no longer work for the post office so it is not needed for work.

I have done lots of repairs like tie rod ends, axle boots, replaced fuel filter two times, replaced plugs, wires and coil two times, both catalytic converters were replaced. And of coarse brakes and rotors every 6 to 8 months. There is a new radiator, replaced about 2 years ago. Idle air control valve was replaced.

All the pulley’s inside the motor that runs the water pump and belts were replaced along with the water pump.

Timing belt was replaced at 150,000 miles.

Starter was replaced.

Two years ago I replaced the transmission with a used one.

Both oxygen sensors on the exhausts have been replaced.

What is needed soon: front brakes and rotors, last time I replaced front brakes I didn’t replace the rotors and you can tell, it thumps when on the brake heavy.

Tires are good but may be needed for inspection in October.

Things wrong with car:

The antenna is broken so the radio stations do not come in well, I have a Pioneer CD played installed so I just listen to audio books. Plus four Sony speakers, right now the rear speakers are not working only because the plugs vibrate off occasionally.

One of the speed sensor controls isn’t working properly causing a squealing noise when it is driven and sometimes the speedometer/odometer does not work. I have researched this problem and found out there is 5 or 6 speed sensors on this car. One in each wheel and two on the transmission. I figured out that one of the speed sensors on the transmission controls the odometer/speedometer so I am pretty sure its on the trans but I have not replaced it because I am not positive as to these findings. This speed sensor control also triggers the engine light on but with a code reader it easily clears.

The other issue it has is when its cold and you go up a hill or need extra power to accelerate it bogs out and stales. Once you stop and restart it the car runs fine. This also causes the engine light to go on and the codes are miss fire codes. Since I have replaced plugs, wired, coil, both catalytic converters, and o2 sensors, I haven’t figured out what causes this. This does not happen a lot so it’s hard to figure out. I was told it may be the exhaust manifold gasket but I am not sure.

The exterior of this vehicle has been painted with different colors to try to prevent rusting because the paint is peeling off. There is some body rust around the wheel fenders that are bubbling up and the insides of both back doors were holes, these holes were repaired with Bondo and primer but not painted. The front bumper was cut off half way down because it would hit on some of the driveways. This passed inspection with the bumper cut off. There is a dent on the left side rear door, this has been sanded down and painted over but not pulled out and other “typical mail box damage”.

I have tried to be as honest as possible about everything with this vehicle.

Subaru pulls on our heartstrings with father and daughter ad

Sun, Jun 7 2015

Do you remember your first car? Was it a hand-me-down from your parents? While it wasn't actually my first car, my parents gifted me a 1990 Mercury Sable as a daily driver, considering that my own chosen car, a 1965 Karmann Ghia, wasn't exactly the most reliable steed in the world. And while I predictably disliked the new-to-me family car, looking back, it was perfect – reliable, safe and, perhaps most importantly for a 17-year-old, free. If it weren't for that car, simple things like going to school, interviewing for jobs and even going to see a movie with friends would have been a massive ordeal. I eventually traded that old Mercury in on the first new car I ever bought at a dealership, with my parents' blessing and, as you might have guessed, my dad's co-signature. While I know not everyone's automotive journey began this way, I'm certain that my story is not actually mine alone. That's why this new ad from Subaru pulls at so many heartstrings – a father cleans out his old Forester, finding keepsakes and nearly-forgotten memories along the way, as he prepares to pass it on to his 16-year-old daughter. Check out the video above, and feel free to share your own hand-me-down stories in Comments. News Source: Subaru via YouTube, Adweek Marketing/Advertising Subaru Ownership Crossover Videos first car

2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid finally adds gas-electric option to the brand [w/video]

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

For a company that does a pretty great job of tying its vehicles to the environment - or, better said, to people who like to actually get out into the environment - Subaru hasn't exactly been a leader in green vehicle production. In fact, it's 2013 and the company is finally releasing its first-ever production hybrid, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid. Tom Doll, Subaru's executive vice president, admitted as much at the unveiling today at the New York Auto Show: "We at Subaru were not the first to market with a hybrid, but we sure made sure we did it right."
That may be, but for now the automaker doesn't want to tell us all the details of how right it is. We do know that the powertrain takes Subaru's 2.0-liter boxer engine and adds in a 13.4-horsepower electric motor and continuously variable transmission. All-wheel drive will be, of course, standard, and Subaru promises the XV Crosstrek Hybrid will offer the "same utility and versatility as the gasoline model," including 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The hybrid does weigh 300 pounds more, though, which required a re-engineered chassis.
The motor can move the lifted Impreza in all-electric mode up to 25 miles an hour (distance not specified). Subaru isn't talking precise fuel economy numbers, either, just that it will be the "most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive crossover in America" and will unsurprisingly have start-stop functionality. We do hear, though, that the hybrid will get around 10-percent better fuel economy than the standard gas-only XV Crosstrek. The most efficient version of that car, the one with the CVT, gets 25 miles per gallon in the city, 33 highway and 28 combined. Whatever this hybrid XV Crosstrek gets, we expect Subaru'll sell a million in Portlandia. For more, scroll down to watch an official video and read the press release.

Kayaba, Sumitomo to pay millions for price-fixing in US

Sat, Sep 19 2015

Kayaba Industry Co, which does business in the US as suspension parts maker KYB, and Sumitomo Electric Industries are facing payments in the millions to settle price-fixing cases about the components that they make. As part of the Department of Justice's ongoing crackdown of price fixing in the auto industry, KYB agreed to pay $62 million and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to set the cost of shock absorbers from the mid '90s through 2012. The company allegedly worked with co-conspirators to keep the cost of the parts high, and those components then made it into vehicles from Honda, Kawasaki, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, and Toyota. "Any collusive agreement among competitors to restrict price competition undercuts our free enterprise system and violates the law," said Carter M. Stewart, US Attorney of the Southern District of Ohio, in the DoJ's announcement. Over the past few years, the DoJ has brought cases against 37 parts suppliers and 55 executives, leading to over $2.6 billion in fines. The investigations haven't always been so successful – some of the Japanese execs fled from the US to avoid prosecution. Critics allege that price fixing is simply how business is done. According to Automotive News, Sumitomo Electric Industries is also facing a $50 million settlement in a civil lawsuit that's related to price fixing of parts like wiring harnesses and heater control panels. The plaintiffs include owners and dealers that purchased vehicles with these parts. The company asserts that the violations are from before 2010, and it now has different process in place to avoid further violations. KYB Agrees to Plead Guilty and Pay $62 Million Criminal Fine for Fixing Price of Shock Absorbers Kayaba Industry Co. Ltd., dba KYB Corporation (KYB) has agreed to plead guilty and to pay a $62 million criminal fine for its role in a conspiracy to fix the price of shock absorbers installed in cars and motorcycles sold to U.S. consumers. According to charges filed today, KYB conspired from the mid-1990s until 2012 to fix the prices of shock absorbers sold to Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (manufacturer of Subaru vehicles), Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., Nissan Motor Company Ltd., Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Company, including their subsidiaries in the United States.
