I purchased this car intending to remove the engine and swap into my Outback. I also found a second subaru in worse condition cosmetically for less money, so I used the engine from that car for my Outback and am selling this car.
This car has cosmetic damage, dents, dings, peeling paint on the hood, and some of the clearcoat is peeling in various places. I would consider the interior to be in fair condition. The body of this car is not eaten up with rust like a lot of Subarus this age.
If you own a Legacy GT, LSi, or Outback or a Forester, or a Impreza rs 2.5 or any other 2.5 DOHC equipped Subaru with a manual transmission and your head gaskets have failed, this engine is a good engine to swap in due to it being a dual port engine, like the DOHC 2.5 engine. That means no exhaust modifications are needed. I suggest reading up on 2.5 , to 2.2 swaps on one of the subaru message boards if you are interested in this.
This car has an issue with the transmission. The shifter is sloppy and it does not want to stay in gear in all of its gears. One gear in particular is a bit noisy. If I were going to keep this car as a driver, I would try to find a good used transmission for it.
Tires will be needed before the next inspection. This car has a valid VA state inspection through 6/2013. It also sounds like the exhaust gasket between the engine and the y pipe has a leak.
This car does not currently have a battery installed. If the auction reaches $800, a functional battery will be included.
I have never had tags on the car so it may have issues that I don't know about. I have never daily driven this car. I encourage any potential buyer to either personally inspect the car or to send a representative to inspect it.
This is a no reserve auction, so if you are the high bidder you bought it!
Thanks for looking!

Subaru mulls motorsports return, nixes small CUV plans
Fri, 08 Aug 2014The Subaru WRX STI breaking the automotive lap record at the Isle of Man might be just the beginning of the headlines trumpeting a Subaru racecar. According to the latest rumors, the Japanese brand is looking at taking motorsports more seriously in the future. That could possibly even mean endurance racing at Le Mans.
According to Auto Express, the brand is mulling a greater participation in motorsport, but the big question is where. The World Rally Championship isn't a certainty because it now favors smaller cars like the Volkswagen Polo. Subaru still competes in series like Rally America and Global Rallycross, but there are bigger stages to play on.
What's interesting, is that this commitment to motorsports comes right as the automaker is denying plans to build a small CUV for its passenger car lineup. According to Auto Express, the company has no intention of developing a crossover smaller than the current XV Crosstrek. Even if the sales are there, it would just cost too much to develop. In the US, at least, the XV is doing great with sales up 42 percent in July.
Spy photos show 2017 Subaru BRZ facelift
Tue, Mar 22 2016As it transitions to the Toyota 86, the Scion FR-S isn't the only version of the joint Toyota/Subaru sports car that's getting a facelift. The BRZ is getting a nip and tuck, and here's our first look. Posted on the FT86Club forum are pictures of what appears to be the 2017 Subaru BRZ, hot on the heels of the recently-revised Toyota 86. The changes look rather subtle, but stand at least to keep the Subaru model up to pace with its Toyota counterpart. And for those less than enamored of the new curves applied to the 86, these updates may just be enough to tip the balance in Fuji Heavy's favor. The front end appears to keep the same grille shape as the existing model, but the vents on either side of it have changed, with little winglets bisecting. Gone are the auxiliary lights, apparently integrated into the new headlights that pack fresh elements. The taillights appear to be updated in similar fashion as well. Inside more auxiliary controls are now integrated into the steering wheel in front of the instrument binnacle with a new set of gauges. There's seems to be a new infotainment head unit in the dashboard and some updated interior trim as well. Of course the big question will be whether the refreshed BRZ will get any boost in power or other mechanical upgrades like Toyota's given the new 86, but for that we'll just have to stay patient for the time being as look forward to seeing the Toyota version in the metal at the New York Auto Show this week. Subaru says Forester logs 8,000 JDM orders in first month, 4x expectations
Fri, 21 Dec 2012The 2014 Subaru Forester is not on sale yet here in the US, but it has been on sale in Japan since the middle of last month. In that time, Subaru says that the 8,149 customer orders it has received have more than quadrupled the original expectation of just 2,000 units.
To go along with these impressive orders so far, Subaru has also provided a breakdown of exactly what initial customers are ordering, and based on the numbers provided, it would appear that early customers are choosing well-equipped models. This includes almost 90 percent of all models being ordered with the new Subaru EyeSight system, and while close to two-thirds of the Forester models are equipped with the base 2.0-liter engine, the turbocharged Forester 2.0XT is the most popular individual trim level accounting for almost 40 percent of the orders out of four available trim levels. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues as more Foresters hit dealers, but this is definitely a good sign for the compact crossover right out of the gate.
There's a brief press release after the jump that gives a full breakdown of customer orders so far in Japan.
