I have two Subaru outback station wagons. This listing is for a 1997 Outback that has very good tires (like new) and runs but shows a service engine soon light and I do not know why. It also has a bad switch on the driver side window. This is my mothers car and I am trying to sell it for her. I am at my home and do not know the milage for the 1997. I will try to get that info for them later. I have another Subaru that she owns in my garage also. It is a 1999 model that had a 2.5 engine in it but started overheating. She took it to a garage in town and they rebuilt the heads. The next day the car got hot and the engine started knocking. I purchased a 2.2 engine after reading in the forums that they bolt right in and are a better more reliable engine. I installed the engine and found that the flex plate did not line up with the torque converter. Also there was a difference in the wiring harness. Listing this car, however, I just found that the engine must be a 2.2 for this 1997 outback. So for that reason, I think I will list both cars together on this listing along with the 2.2 engine that I purchased to put in the 1999 model. The winning bidder can either finish putting in the 2.2 in the 1999 or pull it out for the 1997 which runs now, and rebuild the 2.5 for the 1999. In either case there is two outback Subarus that can make someone with more knowledge great little cars that are cheap on gas. I am a factory worker and not at all a mechanic but I try. I can deliver these cars for a price depending on the distance one at a time.Thanks.

Subaru mulling expanding Indiana plant for Forester, Impreza

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

Thanks to currency fluctuations and their impact on the bottom line, a growing number of Japanese automakers are starting to increase vehicle production in the US, and it appears Subaru could be the next to do so. According to Bloomberg, Subaru is looking into expanding production capacity at its Lafayette, Indiana assembly plant, which currently builds the Outback, Legacy and Tribeca as well as the Toyota Camry.
Subaru's Indiana plant currently has an annual maximum capacity of 310,000 units, but the automaker is expecting to far exceed that figure this year, with year-to-date sales of 299,788 units through November (not including Camry) - an increase of almost 30 percent over 2011. The report indicates that Subaru could expand the plant to add as many 50,000 additional units to the plant, likely in the form of either the Forester or Impreza.

Subaru is America's third most off-roaded brand

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

When you think of iconic off-road brands, where does Subaru fall on your radar? Somewhere in the middle? Perhaps near the bottom? Don't worry, you're not alone. Until recently spending some time in Bend, OR, where we drove the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback, we never really pegged the Japanese automaker to be a highly lauded brand among off-road enthusiasts, despite many of the company's products actually being quite capable when the going gets rough.
But the data says we're wrong. According to a 2013 J.D. Power study, Subaru vehicles have some of the highest use off road compared to other brands - of course "off road" here just means anything not on a paved road, so even gravel trails and tame two-tracks count in these statistics. Nearly 29.5 percent of its cars are used on trails and dirt roads, with only the Ram and Jeep brands besting that statistic, at 30.2 and 31.0 percent, respectively. Said another way, Subaru sold 424,683 vehicles in the US in 2013, meaning that some 125,281 saw off-road use. Mainstream brands like GMC, Ford and Chevrolet all trail Subaru, and even Land Rover comes in at less than 20 percent.
Some 34.7 percent of Outbacks are taken off paved roads, according to J.D. Power data.
