2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sedan 4-door 2.5l on 2040-cars
Longmont, Colorado, United States
Condition and Features: This car is in great condition. I have a clean Colorado title. Everything is clean, there are only two scratches on the right rear passenger door and three shallow scratches on the hood and roof, and it's mechanically very sound (new clutch, tires and wheels, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, water pump, and pulleys - I have receipts) and reliable. The interior is perfect - not a scratch or a scar on it, and I've replaced the terrible stock head unit with a nice Kenwood touch-screen and put decent speakers in the front doors. Everything is working in the car. History: Carfax tells me that I am third owner of this vehicle. It started out life in Washington state, and came out here in the early part of this decade. I bought it from a Subaru lot; it was traded in for another Subaru and the dealership liked the car enough to stick it out on their line. They did some minor mechanical work to the back brakes. I had a bunch of preventative maintenance done to the car to prepare it for another 100k miles; it is too small for my needs, so it must go down the road. Notes: You will not find another Impreza 2.5i in the Denver metro area that will run or look better. BE CAREFUL when you are buying a Subaru in this age range - many have developed troublesome head gasket leaks (mine has not and this has been doubly confirmed by mechanics) or need $1400 worth of timing belts, water pumps, et al. Make sure you get proof that expensive maintenance has been performed as this preventative maintenance, or the much-higher costs of turning a blind eye to it, can add thousands to your ownership costs. Shipping and Payment: Cash only or a wire transfer, please. |

Subaru comes out on the right side of history, stands up against Indiana law
Tue, Mar 31 2015Well, I may as just get it out there straight up and let some percentage of you dear readers take your shots in the comments below: I find Indiana's new "religious freedom" law that opens the door to discrimination against gay people to be reprehensible, along with all the other laws across the country that do the same thing but with different wording. So I was thrilled today when Subaru, which has a plant in Lafayette, IN, came out and said it finds the new law pretty awful too. The statement, issued by Michael McHale, the company's director of corporate communications, says that while the company recognizes that each state gets to decide its own laws, the automaker does "not agree with any legislation that allows for discrimination, or any behavior or act that promotes any form of discrimination. Furthermore, we do not allow discrimination in our own operations, including operations in the state of Indiana." Although McHale told Autoblog Subaru is not considering leaving Indiana, the newly passed legislation has prompted others to say they want to take their business elsewhere. The NCAA said Monday it is taking a look at the law and trying to determine if it will be able to continue holding large sporting events in the state, according to ESPN. In a piece in The Washington Post, Apple's Tim Cook warned that these kinds of laws are being passed in dozens of states across the country and they are bad for business. He spotlighted one proposed law in Texas that would strip pension benefits from clerks who issue marriage licenses to gay people, even if the Supreme Court declares gay marriage legal. "Opposing discrimination takes courage," he wrote. "With the lives and dignity of so many people at stake, it's time for all of us to be courageous."
Subaru Forester, Legacy and Outback earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ratings
Thu, 26 Dec 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced its more rigorous standards for the Top Safety Pick+ crash test rating back in September, and has recently called out some new models that have attained this highest rating. Last year, the TSP+ category was created for vehicles passing the then-new small overlap crash test; this year the top award has been amended to include crash prevention technology.
Thanks to its EyeSight technology, the Subaru Legacy, Outback and Forester are among just 22 vehicles to have been named a 2014 TSP+ by the IIHS. Without this technology, all three vehicles - and the Impreza and XV Crosstrek - were still named a Top Safety Pick (without the +).
To test the crash prevention technology, the IIHS uses two tests (one at 12 miles per hour and one at 25 mph) to see how well the systems do to lessen the severity of an impact. or prevent an impact altogether. Vehicles are then given a rating from Superior (best), Advanced or Basic, and cars that do not offer forward collision warning or auto braking are not given a rating in this category. To be named a TSP+, a car must achieve at least a Basic score for crash prevention, but all three Subaru models earned a perfect score to receive a Superior rating. Subaru takes another look back, this time at the 2004 WRX STI
Sat, 21 Dec 2013Here we have the followup to the rally-mimicking Impreza 22B STI that Subaru recently chronicled in its Vintage Garage series: the 2004 Impreza WRX STI. Displacement for the boxer four was upped from 2.2 liters to 2.5, and after noticing how many buyers had installed larger turbochargers on their WRXs, Subaru decided to bolt on one in-house. That gave the final product 300 horsepower and a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour run of just 4.6 seconds.
It was stiffer, it's body from nose to front doors was penned by Peter Stephens, he of the McLaren F1, it came with a driver-controlled center differential, driver-activated cooling spray for the turbos and 300 pound-feet of torque. This is a curio from a time when, after a new WRX STI came out, you started poring through magazines to see how the Mitubishi Evo was going to respond. You can find out more about it in the video below.
