Up for sale is my beloved 06 STI. I'm the second owner of the car. I purchased it in 2007 from a Subaru dealer with 12k on the clock. The car has been virtually trouble free since I purchased it. Typical STI issues like clunky struts which were ultimately upgraded to adjustable Koni inserts to eliminate the clunk all together. Only maintenance that hasn't been done that should be is the timing belts. Otherwise the car is in great shape for 8 year old STI. Burns an acceptable 0.25 to 0.5 quarts of oil every 1000 miles as do most of these boxer motors. Over the years the car has been modified little by little but all components are of the best quality (mostly Perrin) and I'll repeat, the car has never even thrown a CEL. Below is a list of all upgrades.\ -Perrin cat-back dual tube exhaust. -Turbo-Xs catless downpipe -25 mm Perrin sway bars front and rear -Perrin end-links -Perrin stout mounts to eliminate the flimsy pressed steel sway bars mounts that come stock -Group-N motor and trans mount. Huge difference, the motor and trans feel much more connected to the car -Tein S-tech lowering springs. The car sits slightly lower but ground clearance is never an issue -Cobb Access port -Cobb cold air intake -Cobb turbo heat shield -Right now the car has Bridgestone re-11 in good shape. Worn evenly and you should get another summer out of them. -I haven't driven the car in winter in a few years, but I do have a set un-mounted snow tires if you'd like them -Also have a wingless trunk I'll include in the sale, but it would need to be painted. California adapts ZEV mandate with PHEVs for smaller automakers
Fri, Jun 5 2015California is the nation's largest market for zero-emissions vehicles with over 100,000 of them estimated to be on the roads there. The state's goal is to keep that number growing every year. To that end, the California Air Resources Board is now tweaking its rules in a way that might not boost ZEVs but could mean more plug-in hybrids for the Golden State. Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Volvo asked for an exemption to the state's zero-emissions vehicle mandate last year due to their relatively small development budgets compared to larger automakers. CARB denied their request but did craft a compromise, according to Automotive News. Rather than being required to offer a ZEV in the state, companies with an annual global revenue of less than $40 billion, like those in this group, may instead sell plug-in hybrids to earn ZEV credits. The companies aren't completely off the hook, though. If these plug-in hybrids don't earn enough credits, the corporations must buy them on the market to make up the difference. Automakers with popular electric models like Nissan and Tesla have made a big business through this trading system by selling their surplus to rivals. Tesla alone pocketed $51 million in the first quarter from this part of its business, according to Automotive News. The changes to the regulations also aren't set in stone, yet. CARB is meeting in 2016 and could adjust things further at that time. West Coast labor dispute hampers Japanese automakers' US plants
Wed, Feb 18 2015The ongoing labor dispute between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and port owners along the West Coast is starting to affect more Japanese automakers building vehicles in the US. The issue already forced Honda and Subaru to take the expensive option of airlifting some parts into the US weeks ago, and according to USA Today, Toyota and Nissan have begun doing so, as well. The choice hasn't been cheap, though, and Subaru's chief financial officer estimated that the decision cost around $60 million more per month than sending components by cargo ship. The effects continue to radiate, according to USA Today, and shortages of some models are possible. Honda is slowing production at its factories in Ohio, Indiana and Canada because the automaker doesn't have enough transmissions and electronics for some vehicles. Toyota already cut back on overtime at some factories. Nissan has only seen a small effect from the issue, though, because of its local suppliers. Dock workers and port owners have been negotiating on a new contract since last year, and the union has organized work slowdowns in response. According to USA Today, the automakers could move shipments to Canada or Mexico, but it would take longer for parts to arrive. Subaru readies BRZ RA Racing for Japanese trackdays
Sun, 27 Jan 2013As if we needed any more reasons to take a Subaru BRZ to the track, Subaru has just announced that it will be producing a racing-spec version of the car straight from the assembly line. The only problem is that the BRZ RA Racing is being offered for the Japanese domestic market only, and won't be visiting any road courses in the US any time soon.
To get the BRZ ready for some serious track time, Subaru added brake ducts beneath the front fascia, removable tow hooks and an oil cooler behind the grille. Inside, the car gets a factory six-point roll cage (including custom-fit floor mats) and a four-point race harness for the driver. Now we get to pricing where US enthusiasts will get even more miffed. The entire suite of racing add-ons increases the BRZ's price by 31,500 yen, which converts to less than $350 US; the total price of the car converts to right around $31,500 US.
