What you find with our 2009 Subaru Tribeca is a vehicle that carries its size well, offers unique styling and doesn't have to be apologetic for sloppy reflexes. A 2009 redesign means our Tribeca is simply better than the older models....a newer 3.6-liter flat-six engine is more than half a liter larger with power up from 245 horsepower to 256, along with 247 lb.ft of torque. Not only does the engine get better fuel economy in real-world driving at 16/21 mpg, it also runs on regular unleaded gas versus the old engine's premium thirst. It's an All-wheel drive with 8.4 inches of ground clearance, but real off-roading isn't the goal here.....just all-weather performance. Our 5-passenger is nicely equipped with a lengthy list of features and conveniences including power seats, AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, heated seats, 4-wheel ABS brakes, adjustable steering wheel, and keyless entry. The driving position and provisions are comfortable in that familiar, friendly Subaru way. Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
Subaru reveals WRX STI racecar for 24 Hours of N"urburgring [w/video]
Fri, 10 Jan 2014Subaru has announced that it will be running a race-spec version of the upcoming WRX STI in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in June. The 2014 race will mark the seventh year in a row that Subaru has campaigned a car at the day-long Ring race, but this will be the first race outing for the new WRX STI, which isn't set to debut until next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
Subaru will be in the SP3T class, for turbocharged engines displacing 1.75 to 2.0 liters, and is targeting its third class win, after finishing second last year. To do that, it'll be going toe-to-toe with racing versions of cars from Audi, Volkswagen and Seat.
The team will be led by Hideharu Tatsumi, who was responsible for last year's team. Drivers will include Toshihiro Yoshida and Kouta Sasaki, while another pair of European drivers will be announced at a later date.
Subaru teases Viziv concept ahead of Geneva
Fri, 08 Feb 2013Subaru will be stocking its display at the Geneva Motor Show next month: The European debut of the Subaru Forester joins the world premiere of a diesel Outback with Lineartronic CVT and a display called Subaru 360 that showcases the "brand's history and future vision."
The genuine future-speak, however, is intended to be conveyed by the Viziv concept (click the image above to enlarge). This name "Viziv" is culled from the phrase "Vision for Innovation," and the "future-generation crossover" that bears the 25th-century name has been designed to be an embodiment of "enjoyment and peace of mind."
That's quite a holistic burden for just one crossover. In the more mundane world, the Viziv will suggest Subaru's new design and technology directions. Subaru has created a mini-site for the concept that will be updated during the show, but for now, it just lets us know that March 5 will be "the start of something exciting."
