I’m selling my super clean and extremely well cared for 2004 WRX.  I changed jobs Jan 1st and for the first time in 3 years now have to deal with a traffic-filled commute.  I just bought my first automatic and am selling the WRX… in 12 years I’ve never owned an automatic; hopefully I don’t end up regretting it.

If you’re in the market for a “blobeye” WRX that is fun to drive but also reliable enough to count on day in and day out, then this is it.  This car has never lived up north and hasn’t seen anything more than a light dusting of snow and has never once been exposed to salt of any kind.  I am only the second owner of the car and have had it the past 6 years; I know it forwards and backwards.   When I first got the car, it wasn’t in as good of mechanical shape as I had thought.  It ended up being a blessing in disguise thanks to Subaru and their SAS Gold warranty; the car is in better shape today than it was when I purchased it back in January of 2008.  When I originally purchased it in Atalnta, GA I had thought I was getting transferred to Denver but instead I was relocated to Los Angeles for 1 year and then have been in Dallas the last 5 years.  The car has never seen snow and other than the couple of small dents (2 on hood and 1 on front right fender) is in great shape.  Since I’ve owned it, the car has always been garaged.

Back in 2008, the engine seized up on me within a few months of owning the car and Subaru replaced the entire short block and turbo at 71,xxx.  Subaru also replaced the synchros in 3rd and 4th.  At the time, the heads were still in spec so those didn’t get replaced.  I had the heads completely re-machined and rebuilt at 92,xxx.  I also replaced every engine seal as well as all of the head studs.  I haven’t had any mechanical issues since and the car is never tracked, auto-x’d or raced… just a plain old daily driver that gets me around DFW.  They only time the revs ever see > 4K is the occasional highway onramp but that is rare.  After the engine seized at 71k on Mobil1, I started using Castrol Syntec (full synthetic) and change the oil every 3,500-4k.  All the major suspension upgrades were done within the last 5,000 miles. I also have a full maintenance log that details everything that has been done to the car.  The last compression test was on 4/26/13 and was 150psi across all cylinders.

For a full rundown of what I consider tasteful and functional mods to the car, please see below:

I have all the stock parts (exhaust, wheels, suspension, and head unit) and am planning to include them, as well as the iPhone and radar detector.  The car is located in Dallas, TX and I have the clean title in hand.

Asking price is $11,500 obo for a super clean, adult owned and well taken care of WRX.

Mazda MX-5 Miata goes Head 2 Head with Subaru BRZ

Wed, Aug 5 2015

It's a battle that's been in the making for some time now: the Subaru BRZ versus the Mazda MX-5 Miata. And now that the new Miata has arrived – and in Club spec to boot – that's exactly what Motor Trend has lined up for its latest episode of Head 2 Head. Now before you go screaming that one's a coupe and the other a convertible, take a few commonalities into account. Roofs aside, both feature a 2.0-liter four mounted up front, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Both are made by Japanese automakers and cost around $25-30k, give or take. Both produce around the same amount of torque, and while the Subaru may be more powerful, the Mazda's considerably lighter. To create a more even contest, then, you'd have to line a BRZ up against a Scion FR-S, or the MX-5 against the upcoming Fiat version of the same. Of course, being that close on paper doesn't mean that it's a draw. One has to come out on top. And after taking both along country roads and the Streets of Willow racing circuit, our friends at MT have picked one over the other. You'll want to watch the 22-minute video above (or at least skip ahead to the end) to see which came out on top, but if you're as enthused by a purist driver's car as we are, you'll enjoy every minute of it. Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively. You can read the full press release below for more information.

Subaru prices limited edition Hyper Blue models

In the market for a new Subaru BRZ or WRX STI but aren't interested in World Rally Blue or any of the other shades on offer? Prefer your car look like a very loud, boxer-powered smurf? Then get in line for one of the limited-edition Hyper Blue models. We've covered these two before, but now, Subaru has released the pricing details on the rare models. All 500, manual-only Hyper Blue BRZs will be sold for $28,845, or just $655 more than the 2016 BRZ Limited 6MT. In addition to their paint, the Hyper Blue models add black alloy wheels – 17-inchers for the BRZ and 18-inch BBS-branded hoops for the STI – black badges, and black wing mirrors.
