1988 Subaru Xt6 4 Wheel Drive on 2040-cars
Lancaster, California, United States
I purchased this car about 15 years ago. I found it in a wrecking yard, hence the salvage title. It wasn't wrecked. It was there because of an engine noise. There were 2 models. 4 cylinder and 6. My car has the 2.7 liter 6 cylinder H motor. The owner was told it would cost more money than it was worth to repair. It had 75,000 mile on it. I bought it and replaced the timing belts. The noise was just lifter noise due to low oil. The factory repair manual states that if the engine is low on oil, the lifters will chatter. I drove it for a few years and sold it to my sister-in-law. She drove it for a few years and sold it to her son. He drove it for a few years and bought a new truck. It sat for a few years and I acquired it back. I painted it due to the paint fading. There never has been any rust. I live in the high desert of southern California. I replaced the A.C. compressor, alternator, clutch cable, plugs and wires, air and fuel filters, and headlight motor (has flip up headlights). Car now has only 108,000 miles. Car runs and drives great. Everything works except I disconnected the automatic shoulder belt motor because the motor was getting weak. Now you must physically buckle the shoulder belt. The inside pieces that cover the side mirrors are missing. The passenger seat has a small cigarette burn and a few stains. There are no rips or tears. The tires still have at least half of their tread life left. Cruise control, power windows and door locks, A.C., aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth and usb connectivity. Pre-wired for Powered subwoofer and amp. Car originally came with air suspension. Front air struts had leaks and air compressor was robbed, so I replaced the front struts with spring struts. Rear air struts are still on car and fillable in trunk.
This car was ahead of its time when built. This is the precursor to the WRX. It was replaced by the SVT. Please research this car on the Web. Car is 4 wheel drive with an air locker differential from the factory. Car is very quick and the interior is styled after the cockpit of a fighter jet. The 5 speed has a pistol grip shifter and the steering wheel and gauge pod move together as one when adjusted. Car is very unique. Car is not perfect, but in very good condition. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Ron 661-618-9616 |

Subaru weighing Outback vs Forester approach for seven-seater
Tue, Mar 24 2015Subaru is gearing up for a return to the seven-seat crossover segment, and it's focusing the new model on the US market, but just which approach it will take has yet to be decided. One possibility, according to Automotive News, would be to position it as a larger counterpart to the Outback wagon, with rugged off-road styling. The other would be to sell it as a big brother to the Forester, with cleaner styling. One thing Subaru most definitely does not want to repeat is the Tribeca fiasco, so we wouldn't expect the new model to carry that same nameplate. Introduced in 2006, the Tribeca's divisive front-end styling kept it from being a serious player, and it underwent a facelift only two years later. It was withdrawn from the market altogether after 2014. The company had targeted moving 36,000 units of the Tribeca each year, but sold fewer than 2,800 in America in 2011, barely over 2,000 in 2012, less than 1,600 in 2013 and just a few hundred in 2014. The new seven-seat crossover will go after the likes of the Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder and new Honda Pilot among three-row Japanese crossovers. Like those rivals, it will be built in the US for the US market – namely at Subaru's assembly plant in Indiana, the same state where the Highlander is produced. The new crossover's arrival will, according to reports, mean that the Levorg wagon offered in Japan and Europe won't be offered Stateside. Related Video:
Subaru might build WRX hatchback after all
Fri, 04 Apr 2014The 2015 Subaru WRX is awesome. Really awesome. We told you as much in our first drive of the new sedan back in December. Honestly, our only complaint about Fuji Heavy's new performance machine is that it's no longer offered as a hatchback - the new WRX is a sedan-only affair, despite the more functional five-door variant accounting for some 50 percent of sales in the car's last generation.
But there's hope on the horizon, if a report from Australia's Motoring.com is to be believed. Speaking with Masuo Takatsu, Subaru's general manager for the WRX, the company is now re-considering putting the "hatch" back in its hot hatch.
"We have received strong interest from the US, where the hatchback was 50 percent (of previous-generation WRX sales), so we're now considering," Takatsu told Motoring, noting that the United States is Subaru's main target for this car. Additionally, Takatsu said the company's decision to only offer the sedan was the result of limited engineering resources, echoing statements we've previously heard from Subaru's US arm.
Subaru provides first glimpse at upcoming Forester STI
Mon, 27 Oct 2014Have you been patiently awaiting an STI version of the Subaru Forester? Your wait may be over soon, good friend, as teaser images of just such a vehicle have surfaced online.
Set to debut on November 25, the 2015 Subaru Forester STI will reportedly feature more aggressive aero and cooling, upgraded rolling stock and brakes, and Subaru Tecnica International's signature bright-blue paint and red accents.
What we don't know is what will provide the motivation. There's a pretty big gap at present between the 250 horsepower offered in the top-of-the-line Forester 2.0XT and the 305-hp WRX STI, and we don't know where along the spectrum the Forester STI might fall. Nor do we know, for that matter, if it'll be offered Stateside. But we're looking forward to finding out.
