The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Fair condition, some rust around body with one hole on rear drivers side wheel well. Braking system needs work. Alternator is starting to fail."

This is a Do-it-yourself special, or a complete parts car.  This vehicle is completely running and whole, but is it not currently safe to be driven on the road.  All of the issues are relatively minor, and a weekend or two of shade-tree wrenching would be all that it would take to get this a fully road-worthy car.  I simply do not have the time to do it myself and I already have too many cars for my parking lot.  Since most of the drivetrain has been repaired or replaced during this cars life, it could also be an excellent parts car.

Vehicle Condition:
Fair.  Given the age and the fact that it has lived in New England all of its life, the rust is typical for this vehicle.  There is one hole in the rear drivers side wheel well that was cleaned and primed some time ago by the prior owner.

The Good:  Headgaskets, timing belt, water pump, oil separator plate, and valve cover gaskets have been replaced at about 170,000 miles.
The Transmission was replaced at about 190,000 miles with a unit that had 77,000 on it.  The transmission now has about 90,000 miles on it.
The rear struts, springs, suspension top-hats, and rear swaybar bushing and endlinks were replaced at about 163,000 miles.
The front passenger side spring was replaced under Manufacturer Recall.  This was at approximately 161,000 miles.
Both front axles were replaced with New Cardone axles.
Muffler and mid-pipe were replaced with OEM Bosal parts at about 163,000.
Rear catalytic converter and O2 sensor were replaced at about 180,000.
A set of 4 Firestone Winterforce tires are on the car.  They have plenty of tread left, and only have about 7,500 miles on them.

The Bad:  Rear brake hardlines need attention, as such the rear brakes have been *DISABLED*.  Be aware that the car can be moved, but it is not safe to be driven on the roads today as it is right now.
The Alternator is starting to fail.  The battery itself is good, but the alternator can no longer maintain a charge reliably.
The interior of the car could use a good cleaning.  There have been a number of spills in the car over the years and owners on both the carpets and seats.

I purchased this car in 2009 from a private seller in Connecticut.  It was my primary vehicle from then until last year when I purchased another newer Outback.

"Shipping":  I highly prefer local pickup on this.  As stated before, the car is *NOT ROAD SAFE*  and will require a flatbed or trailer tow.  I cannot let you work on the car in my driveway due to restrictions placed by my landlord.  If you are not local, I will support the vehicle being shipped, but you need to make your own arrangements with a pickup around my schedule.  I *WILL NOT* take time off of work to wait for a vehicle transport pickup.  I require the vehicle to be picked up within 7 days of auction end.

Payment:  I will require a $250 non-refundable down payment via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end.  The remainder can be done either via Paypal, Cash, or certified check at pickup.

Kelly Blue Book lists this vehicle in "Fair" condition for $2750.  I am starting this auction significantly below this due to the current issues.

NHTSA investigating 33k Subaru Imprezas for airbag sensor flaw

Tue, Apr 14 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is beginning an investigation into an estimated 33,500 units of the 2012 Subaru Impreza because of a potential flaw with the sensor for the airbag system. The government agency has 26 complaints about possible faults with the Occupant Detection System for the front passenger seat, and this is the sensor that decides whether a person is an adult, petite, child seat or some other object and adjusts the deployment of the airbag accordingly. However, these reports allege that it was incorrectly turned off when someone was in the vehicle, which caused the airbag not to activate. Subaru put out a Technical Service Bulletin in May 2012 that attempted to address a similar problem. For now, this investigation is classified as a preliminary evaluation and is gathering more data about the potential problem to "assess the scope, frequency, and consequence," according to NHTSA. Related Video: INVESTIGATION Subject : Passenger Front Air Bag Suppression Date Investigation Opened: APR 10, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: PE15012 Component(s): AIR BAGS All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) SUBARU IMPREZA 2012 Details Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc. SUMMARY: The Office of Defects Investigation has received 26 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire reports involving the passenger frontal air bag in MY 2012 Subaru Impreza vehicles. These vehicles use a capacitive type Occupant Detection System, which is intended to classify the occupant of the passenger seat as either full sized, small stature, a child seat or other object. The reports allege that the Occupant Detection System, failed to operate properly and incorrectly suppressed (turned off) the front passenger air bag when the seat was occupied. In a frontal crash sufficient to warranty deployment, a suppressed air bag may increase the risk of injury to the occupant of the seat. Additionally, ODI notes that Subaru published a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) No. 17-16-12 on May 29, 2012 to address conditions with the Occupant Detection System that can lead to suppression of the passenger air bag when the passenger seat is occupied. ODI is opening this this investigation to assess the scope, frequency, and consequence of incorrect air bag suppression and any connection that may exists to the TSB.

This Irishman really likes the Toyota GT86

Sun, 10 Feb 2013

Okay, okay - by this point in time just liking the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, what have you) doesn't make you special. Even if you're a sort of funny sounding, funny looking Irishman, who probably isn't the most seasoned car reviewer ever, digging the GT86 is not news.
However, if, when you choose to publish your ten-minute-long review, you include exclamatory phrases about your own pubic hair, Ozzy Osborne's drug habit and "gentleman vegetable stuff," well sir, then you'll have our attention.
Don't give up on this video, available down below, after the first couple of minutes, we implore you. The silver-tongued Irishman doesn't really get warmed up until four minutes in, or so. Believe us, it's worth the wait.

A closer look at the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Subaru Legacy might not have been the hottest debut at the recent Chicago Auto Show, but for the Japanese automaker, it's hugely important. Much as we'd love to focus on Subaru's more engaging WRX, STI and BRZ models, the truth is, its the mainstream Forester, Outback and Legacy that make up the vast majority of the brand's sales, not to mention the Impreza and XV Crosstrek.
This new Legacy looks to gain a lot more traction in the mainstream market than its predecessor, with handsome, if familiar, styling, standard all-wheel drive, and more efficient powertrains. Under the hood, customers can choose between a 2.5-liter boxer-four, or a more powerful six-cylinder engine. Subaru says that the four-cylinder setup actually boasts class-leading fuel economy for all-wheel-drive vehicles in the Legacy's class.
West coast editor Michael Harley stopped by the Subaru stand for a closer look at the 2015 Legacy. Check it out in the video below.
