2003 SUBARU LEGACY WAGON "SPECIAL EDITION" for sale by owner! This ALL WHEEL DRIVE wagon has been very well maintained all it's life and has NEVER been abused. It has all the usual features - such as one of the world's best ALL WHEEL DRIVES, legendary reliability and longevity combined with a VERY REASONABLE fuel consumption for a car of this size and power. In order to pass the requirements for the certification, my mechanic installed BRAND NEW FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, they also changed the engine oil and filter less than 100 kms ago. Timing belt and water pump were done at 196 K and the head gaskets were replaced at the same time, using the thicker gaskets from the STI engines. This absolutelly eliminates any risk for future head gasket problems. The car is equipped with POWER SEATS - HEATED, POWER WINDOWS, POWER DOOR LOCKS, POWER MIRRORS - HEATED, AIR CONDITION, FACTORY AM/FM/TAPE/CD PLAYER, MULTIPLE AIR BAGS, KEYLESS ENTRY, REAR WINDOW WIPER/WASH SYSTEM, SPLIT REAR SEAT. Ther are 2 sets of wheels for the car, 1 set of steel rims with VERY GOOD UNIROYAL WINTER TIRES, and 1 set of ALUMINUM WHEELS WITH PIRELLI SUMMER TIRES, currently on the car. I took the car as "partial trade in" on a bigger deal and have too may cars as it is; I will be glad to answer any related question by e-mail and will show the car to serious buyers by appointment.

California adapts ZEV mandate with PHEVs for smaller automakers

Fri, Jun 5 2015

California is the nation's largest market for zero-emissions vehicles with over 100,000 of them estimated to be on the roads there. The state's goal is to keep that number growing every year. To that end, the California Air Resources Board is now tweaking its rules in a way that might not boost ZEVs but could mean more plug-in hybrids for the Golden State. Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Volvo asked for an exemption to the state's zero-emissions vehicle mandate last year due to their relatively small development budgets compared to larger automakers. CARB denied their request but did craft a compromise, according to Automotive News. Rather than being required to offer a ZEV in the state, companies with an annual global revenue of less than $40 billion, like those in this group, may instead sell plug-in hybrids to earn ZEV credits. The companies aren't completely off the hook, though. If these plug-in hybrids don't earn enough credits, the corporations must buy them on the market to make up the difference. Automakers with popular electric models like Nissan and Tesla have made a big business through this trading system by selling their surplus to rivals. Tesla alone pocketed $51 million in the first quarter from this part of its business, according to Automotive News. The changes to the regulations also aren't set in stone, yet. CARB is meeting in 2016 and could adjust things further at that time. Subaru Impreza shows off 360-degree passing technique

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Leave it to a Subaru WRX to find a new way to improve the art of passing. This dash cam vid shows a white WRX pirouetting past our recording car and somehow straightening out before either sliding off the road or slamming into the car ahead. If this were a standard move in rally racing, the WRC would be bigger than NASCAR.
Like most dash cam vids, we don't know where it was shot (Russia's always a good bet) or what the circumstances were (did the driver spin on purpose or was the 360-degree slide accidental?), but the remarkable feat was caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube, preserving it for an Internet eternity. Scroll below to watch the twist yourself, and don't try this at home!

BTW: Subaru's SHARC won the 2012 Design Challenge

Mon, 03 Dec 2012

Part of the festivities that encompass the LA Auto Show is the annual LA Design Challenge. This year's winner was the Subaru Highway Automated Response Concept, or SHARC. It envisioned automated, zero-emission highway patrolling.
The 2012 edition of the challenge was to envision the future of highway patrol in the year 2025. The goal was to conceptualize a vehicle that would account for the needs of "dynamic urban environments." In addition to Subaru's participation in the contest BMW, General Motors, Honda and Mercedes-Benz, all took part in the challenge.
The SHARC is essentially a law enforcement land-drone. It is entirely automated and runs on renewable energy. Subaru envisioned a future where the Hawaiian Islands are connected to each other by a large highway system. Such an expansive area would require considerable manpower to patrol. The concept of an autonomous patrol vehicle would eliminate the need for a good number of full-time personnel.
