2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sedan 4-door 2.5l on 2040-cars
Longmont, Colorado, United States
Condition and Features: This car is in great condition. I have a clean Colorado title. Everything is clean, there are only two scratches on the right rear passenger door and three shallow scratches on the hood and roof, and it's mechanically very sound (new clutch, tires and wheels, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, water pump, and pulleys - I have receipts) and reliable. The interior is perfect - not a scratch or a scar on it, and I've replaced the terrible stock head unit with a nice Kenwood touch-screen and put decent speakers in the front doors. Everything is working in the car. History: Carfax tells me that I am third owner of this vehicle. It started out life in Washington state, and came out here in the early part of this decade. I bought it from a Subaru lot; it was traded in for another Subaru and the dealership liked the car enough to stick it out on their line. They did some minor mechanical work to the back brakes. I had a bunch of preventative maintenance done to the car to prepare it for another 100k miles; it is too small for my needs, so it must go down the road. Notes: You will not find another Impreza 2.5i in the Denver metro area that will run or look better. BE CAREFUL when you are buying a Subaru in this age range - many have developed troublesome head gasket leaks (mine has not and this has been doubly confirmed by mechanics) or need $1400 worth of timing belts, water pumps, et al. Make sure you get proof that expensive maintenance has been performed as this preventative maintenance, or the much-higher costs of turning a blind eye to it, can add thousands to your ownership costs. Shipping and Payment: Cash only or a wire transfer, please. |

Honda, Subaru airlifting parts to bypass port labor diputes
Fri, Feb 6 2015It should be abundantly obvious that a vital element in building cars is actually having the components on hand to assemble them. A labor dispute on the West Coast between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and management is not making that quite so easy for some Japanese automakers. Work slowdowns at the ports have pushed Honda and Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries into flying some parts into the country. The two automakers began shipping by airplane late last month to avoid production delays, according to Bloomberg, but it has been an expensive solution. Subaru's chief financial officer said the decision cost around $60 million more per month than sending components by cargo ship. They aren't the only companies dealing with the problem, either. Toyota reportedly stopped overtime assembly at some of its factories here because of the delays in getting parts, according to Bloomberg. The dockworkers have been negotiating on a new contract since May 2014, and the current offer on the table to them has offered a 3 percent raise, according to Bloomberg. Although, the union is reportedly considering another slowdown at 29 ports along the West Coast in the coming days. How Subaru saved itself by marketing to the gay community
Mon, Oct 17 2016Almost everyone who's in the car community, and even people that aren't, have probably heard the stereotype that lesbians drive Subarus. What you may not realize is that stereotype was fostered by Subaru, and it helped make the company relevant again in the '90s. This is the story told by NPR's Planet Money podcast. Apparently, as the company was trying to figure out who was buying its cars, the marketing folks discovered that gay and lesbian people were a large segment – along with all those outdoorsy types. The discovery led to subtle advertising directed specifically at what we now refer to as the LGBT community, which in turn led to more sales to gay and lesbian consumers. There were other components to Subaru's sales strategy in the '90s, but this particular campaign was an important part and quite successful. Thanks to that success, today we still have Subaru around building reliable, all-wheel-drive transportation, as well as rally-inspired sport compacts. There are of course many more details, but we don't want to spoil them for you. For the whole story, you need to head over to the Planet Money site and listen in. Strange iPhone discovered in guy's Subaru sparks internet mystery
Wed, Apr 19 2017Things can get pretty crazy on the internet, and even the smallest thing can catch people's attention and blow up in an instant. A lot of it is totally bogus or blatant attention seeking, but that's what makes the internet great. Well, that and cat videos. Recently, a story popped up on the internet that is both cool and real. It's the story of a mysterious iPhone, some pro-tier internet detective-ing, and the Takata airbag recall. The story started innocently enough. A guy named Alex Tom took his trusty '09 Subaru Forester into the shop to replace a faulty passenger side airbag under the Takata recall. When he picked the car up, there was a white iPhone 4s sitting on his dashboard. Thing is, the phone wasn't his. The phone was stone dead, but took a charge and booted right up. To complicate matters, it was locked and stuck in airplane mode. When he asked the shop about it, they said they found it behind the dash under the airbag. So now he had a mysterious phone that he couldn't get into to identify. So, like any modern tech-savvy individual, he turned to the internet for help. He posted a picture of the phone on Facebook along with a message asking for help tracking down its owner. What followed was a long, rambling, often hilarious collection of facetious advice, earnest help, photoshops, dumb memes, weird off-topic screeds, and everything else you might expect in a comments thread. Eventually, after getting a name from the phone and enlisting the help of an online dating site, the owner was found and the mystery solved! I'm not going to spoil the ending for you here, because you really need to read the whole saga for yourself. Lets just say that our man Alex had the answer with him all along, and the real treasure was the friends they made along the way.
