2017 Subaru Impreza sedan spied for the first time

Subaru gave us a look at the attractive concept for the next-gen Impreza hatchback at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, but new spy shots present the opportunity to check out the production version as a four-door sedan. While camouflage makes the details harder to suss out, there are a few notable similarities. At the front, the concept's thicker grille and more angular headlights both appear present through the cladding. The shape of the A-pillar also looks alike. However, the visually interesting creases along the sides either aren't coming to production or are just very well hidden on this example. At the back, the taillight coverings suggest the C-shaped units from Tokyo might see production. In addition to the angular styling, the next-gen Impreza should see a mechanical overhaul by moving to Subaru's new modular platform featuring the company's more fuel efficient, direct-injected engine. Don't expect the brand's famous all-wheel drive to go anywhere. With production slated to move to the company's factory in Lafayette, Indiana, the latest Impreza should launch in the latter part of 2016 as a 2017 model. Whenever the Subaru BRZ and its Toyota twin are talked about, the conversation inevitably turns to whether they would be even better sports coupes with more power. Since their introduction, rumors have popped up suggesting possibilities like more displacement, turbocharging or even a hybrid setup to increase horsepower, but nothing has come to pass. Japanese tuner Jun Auto has decided on a completely different way to boost performance by chucking the 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder entirely in place of a beautiful 2.4-liter V8. According to the YouTube description for this clip, the engine is based on two of the 1.2-liter inline four-cylinder units from a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R motorcycle. The result is a mill that makes a claimed 362 horsepower and revs to over 11,000 rpm. It also sounds like automotive nirvana. Finished in an eye-catching contrast of bright yellow paint with white wheels and a black wing at the back, the V8 BRZ certainly doesn't hide its performance, either. 2016 Subaru Outback, Legacy recalled for driveshaft problem

The Basics: Subaru is recalling 3,251 examples of the 2016 Legacy built between Oct. 24, 2015, and Nov. 16 2015, and the 2016 Outback manufactured between Oct. 24, 2015, and Nov. 17, 2015. The Problem: The driveshaft could separate from the rear differential because the securing nuts aren't tight enough. If this happens, the driveshaft could hit the gas tank, leading to a fuel leak. Injuries/Deaths: Subaru spokesperson Michael McHale confirms to Autoblog there are no reports of accidents, injuries, or fires. The fix: Subaru dealers will inspect the nuts and tighten or replace them as necessary. If you own one: Subaru expected the recall to begin on December 10, so owners should receive notification very soon.
