Mazda Turnpike in Japan shut down for racing
Mon, Dec 29 2014The people behind Motorhead Magazine in Japan clearly have some friends in high places. Not only did they manage to shutdown eight kilometers of the Mazda Turnpike up the Hakone mountain, but they invited some of the country's premiere racers to take a drive up the hill. This wasn't just a Sunday cruise either. Featuring a BMW Z4 from the Super GT series, a classic Ford GT40, two flavors of Nissan GT-R and two takes on the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, these guys came ready to run. When an opportunity to let racecars challenge a curvy mountain road presents itself, you don't squander it. Thankfully, the folks at Motorhead knew that and outfitted the course with a plethora of cameras and high-quality sound equipment to capture the action. The result is nothing short of sublime. Subaru builds 3 millionth car in America
Mon, Aug 1 2016Subaru announced August 1 that its Indiana factory completed the 3 millionth American-built Subaru, a Lapis Blue Pearl Outback. The company reached the milestone July 28. Subaru has been building cars at its factory in Lafayette, IN, since 1989. The factory opened as a joint venture with Isuzu, but Subaru eventually took full ownership. Subaru first built North American Legacy sedans and wagons at the factory, followed by the Outback, Baja, and Tribeca. Subaru plans to upgrade the Indiana facility to handle increased demand. The company will double capacity from 218,000 units to 436,000 by March 2019. Subaru will add Impreza production toward the end of the year, and begin production of a three-row crossover in 2018. Subaru readying special-edition BRZ
Fri, 14 Feb 2014Another week coming to a close brings another rumor of a potential hotted-up version of the Subaru everyone wants to turbocharge, the BRZ.
A fresh rumor out of the Car and Driver offices makes the claim that a new, special-edition BRZ model will be offered up within the next few months. Word is that the new model will not get similar upgrades to the recent BRZ tS (seen above) for the Japanese market, meaning we're likely in for a cosmetic update instead of a functional one.
The looks of the tS could still be in the cards, however, meaning swapped-out lip spoiler, wheels and even STI badging might be on the way.
