Subaru recalls 3k Legacy and Outback models for fluid leak

Subaru is recalling 2,893 examples of the 2015-2016 Legacy and Outback because of a potential transmission fluid leak on the two models. The affected vehicles carry build dates between July 3 and July 25, 2015 for the Legacy, and until July 27 on the Outback. According to a Subaru document posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (as a PDF), during production, the seal cap in the propeller shaft yoke may have been deformed. This could cause a transmission fluid leak, and "there is a possible risk of fire" if the liquid drips onto the exhaust, the report says. Dealers will replace the entire prop shaft on these models, and repairs will start on August 28. New examples will carry a stop-sale until fixed. Subaru recalls 48.5k Legacy, Outback models for steering defect

The Basics: Subaru is recalling 48,500 Legacy sedans and Outback CUVs from model years 2016 and 2017. The Problem: According to the NHTSA bulletin, the steering column in affected vehicles may not have been machined properly. This could cause the angle of the steering wheel to have no impact on the direction of travel – the wheel will turn and the car won't. Injuries/Deaths: Neither Subaru nor NHTSA have indicated whether there were any injuries or deaths associated with this recall. The fix: Subaru will inspect steering columns on the affected vehicles and replace them as necessary. Naturally, repairs will be done free of charge. If you own one: Subaru and NHTSA advise that owners do not drive their vehicles until they've been inspected. While Subaru is sending letters to owners, dealers will also reach out directly to schedule an on-sight inspection or arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. 2013 Subaru Legacy and Outback recalled over potential steering loss

Subaru today announced a recall that affects 5,379 Legacy sedan and Outback wagon models in the United States. All of the affected 2013 model-year vehicles were built between February 15 and June 15 of 2012.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "the inner and outer shafts of the steering column assembly may become disengaged from one another" in these vehicles. If that happens, the driver can lose the ability to steer the vehicle, which could obviously lead to all sorts of harmful things.
Subaru will notify owners of the problem, and affected models will have their steering columns replaced at dealerships, free of charge. Scroll down for the official NHSTA report.
