For sale is a 2003 Subaru Forester with 209,000+ Miles sold as is. The vehicle runs and has not been in any accidents and has a clean title. The vehicle does need some work, nothing major though. The vehicle was for college and now that I've graduated it is time to sell. The car would work for someone who wants a project car, a first car for a new driver, or a vehicle for work where you don't care if it gets beat up. The car has some rust spots as it has spent its whole life in northern Michigan. Warranty work was done on it to get the control arm assembly replaced in the two front wheel. The starter was replaced a couple months ago, and the wheel bearings and breaks last year.
The original cargo cover is in good shape, the spare tire is a real tire not a 'donut', the original scissor jack broke fixing a friends car so I got a hydraulic jack in the back. The seats are in good condition as the front two seats have had seat covers on them since the original owner bought them and gave them to me.
Odd and ends notes: The car needs some work and is why it is selling on the low end. With some minor work it would be a good little car. The car is in need of a good vacuuming and dusting, it was a temporary work vehicle for me when I first moved into the area. The car uses oil on long road trips as expected on an older vehicle with that many miles. The rear view mirror use to be auto-dimming; however, it has lost the effect over time. The breaks and tires can last until the winter time. This vehicle is a good buy if you want something to drive into the ground; or for a first time driver. If they get in a fender bender or back into a light pole your not out thousands of dollars.
The work that needs to be done is as follows (Not everything needs to be done, and is up to you on how much you want to fix it up):
- New windshield - It took a hit from a large rock on the interstate a few weeks ago.
- New Battery - The car battery is starting to go and does not have the cold cranking amps for the Michigan winters
- New gas cap - The original gas cap was lost and the replacement does not form a tight seal, so the check engine light comes on. The local mechanic said the error code was for a loose gas cap. Error code P0455
- Airbag light - The air bag light comes on and off. No clue why.
- Air vent - One air vent's directional flow knob is broken. Blows air and everything, but is always in one direction.
- Wind Noise - The seal around the driver/passenger door window is starting to go. At high speeds of travel you can hear the wind. I would recommend replacing the foam strip around the window or turning up the radio.

Subaru recalls 200k vehicles in snowy states to reapply anti-corrosion wax
Thu, Jan 8 2015This past summer, Subaru issued a recall for some 660,000 of its vehicles over a problem stemming from salt from the road corroding brake lines. It was the second such recall the company had issued, and now it's issuing another. Under this latest recall, Subaru is bringing in 198,900 vehicles that were already covered under the previous recall to fix the same issue. This time around, the notice is issued for the 2008-11 Impreza, 2008-14 WRX and STI, and the 2009-13 Forester – specifically those registered (currently or formerly) in 20 states that use salt on their roads: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin, plus the District of Columbia. The remedy is the same as last time, coming down to applying a special anti-corrosion wax to prevent corrosion, but needs to be carried out again due to "incomplete repair instructions provided to dealers" last time around, according to the statement below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. RECALL Subject : Brake Line Corrosion at Four-Way Connector Report Receipt Date: DEC 31, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V830000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 198,900 Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc. SUMMARY: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Impreza, 2008-2014 WRX and STI, and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, currently, or formerly, registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia that were remedied under recall 14V-311 prior to December 23, 2014. The brake lines may experience brake line corrosion due to salt water splashing on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector. CONSEQUENCE: Brake fluid may leak due to the brake line corrosion and may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will apply an anti-corrosion wax to the four-way joint connector area of the brake line system, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 26, 2015. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783.
Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4
Fri, 26 Sep 2014We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.
Drive-up bank robbery perpetrated with Cayenne and WRX
Sat, 14 Sep 2013Thieves carried out what appears to be a movie-script-perfect robbery of a bank in Sydney, Australia early on Friday morning, using two stolen high-performance vehicles in the process.
At around 11:15 AM local time, in near mid-day light, reports say that two men in masks smashed into the side of a Westpac bank in a confirmed-stolen black Porsche Cayenne. The perpetrators were armed with sledgehammers according to witness reports, and took only about five minutes to take what they were after inside of the bank.
The rapid getaway was executed in a Subaru WRX, also confirmed as a stolen vehicle, while witnesses snapped camera phone images of the illicit goings on. One Twitter user posted a few of the images to his social media feed; you can take a look at them in our small gallery below. Follow on down for the full video report, from The Sydney Morning Herald.
