1999 Subaru Forester L Wagon 4-door 2.5l Awd Rust Free! Leather Well Maintained on 2040-cars
Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States
I have a 99 Subaru Forester L AWD wagon for sale. The car is in good condition with no rust or major body damage. Just the clear coat on the hood is peeling. It drives nice and straight with no funny noises or vibrations and the transmission shifts well. It has a Subaru re-manufactured transmission that was installed in 2006 (there is a metal stamp on the tranny itself). Tires all have good tread with no weather cracking including one almost new tire.
New parts within the last few months include a radiator and hoses, spark plugs and wires, altenator, drive belts, front cv joints, front brake pads and rotors, knock sensor, oil change, and air filter. Even though the rotors are new they still have a slight vibration and I will remedy that before the new owner take possession. The car recently passed NC state's safety and emissions inspection in July. It has power windows and door locks, power mirrors, cold a/c and hot heat, cruise, power steering, abs, dual airbags, and leather interior. The cons to this car are as follows: Crack in the windshield, washer fluid motor does not work, speedometer works intermittently, a hole in carpet under driver's floor mat, a rip in the drivers seat leather, a tire mark on the rear leather seat and some substantial oil leaks (3/4 quart a week when driving 250 to 300 miles/week). The head gaskets, thankfully are GOOD! It appears to be leaking from the camshaft seals and the rear main seal. We never had it diagnosed or estimated so don't quote me on the leak locations. It was a car that we purchased with the intent of my wife driving it, but we decided against it once we found the oil leaks. Overall it is a solid running SUV that has a lot of life left in it and would make a perfect winter or work vehicle. Interior is relatively clean with no foul odors or stains. It comes with the rear cargo mat to keep things tidy. Please feel free to ask any and ALL questions before submitting an offer or purchasing. Thank you for looking and good luck! |

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
Subaru turns a WRX STI into a bobsled and (barely) makes it work
Fri, Mar 17 2017When asked how confident he felt of a successful full run down the St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bobrun in his specially prepared Subaru WRX STI, professional rally and stunt driver Mark Higgins responded, "50/50." In reality, he was probably being generous. It wasn't supposed to be so death-defying. In fact, Subaru's original plan was to have Higgins make several runs down the icy slope, some with journalists in the passenger seat. We were among those who traveled all the way to Switzerland for the chance to experience an automotive bobsled ride. One look at the run's famous Horseshoe Corner was all it took for us to second-guess that idea. Well, that and our pesky sense of self preservation. Higgins, though, is one of those rare humans to have been born without that fear-of-death gene. Not only is the Manx driver a professional stuntman – his resume includes sequences for Daniel Craig's James Bond – he also won the British Rally Championship three times and is the four-wheeled record holder at the famed Isle of Man Snaefell Mountain Course. So, when Higgins says some sort of vehicular stunt has only half a chance at success, well, let's just say that most mortals would say something more akin to "a snowball's chance in hell." On the topic of snow and balls, it's worth noting that the timing of Subaru's bobsled run wasn't set by choice. The Olympic Bobrun hosts regular events every winter through late February or early March. Since the track at St. Moritz is the only run in the world without an artificial cooling system, warm weather means no sledding. Combine those two facts and you end up with a very narrow window in which Subaru could go about making the modified track and a WRX STI actually fit together. Enter the boffins at Prodrive. The British engineering firm first started modifying vehicles for racing in 1984. By 1990, Prodrive was focused on turning turbocharged Imprezas into championship winners for the likes of Colin McRae, Richard Burns, and Petter Solberg. So it comes as little surprise that Subaru turned back to Prodrive to figure out how to modify a 2015 WRX STI in a way that would make it survive the pounding it would sustain on a bob run. For the record, this isn't just any 2015 WRX STI. It's actually the same car Higgins used in 2014 to set a lap record at the Isle of Man.
2014 Subaru Forester priced from $21,995*
Fri, 18 Jan 2013Subaru has officially announced that its all-new 2014 Forester will carry a base MSRP of $21,995 when it hits dealerships early this year, (*not including $895 in destination fees). This represents an increase of $700 over the outgoing 2013 model.
That new price will net buyers the base 2.5i model equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Subaru will also sell the 2.5i engine in Premium, Limited and Touring trims, though the automaker has not released specific price points for those models. These models are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Subaru says that with its standard all-wheel drive, the Forester 2.5i will be good for fuel economy numbers of 24/32 miles per gallon (city/highway) when equipped with the company's continuously variable transmission. Manual models see those numbers drop to 22/29 mpg.
The more powerful Forester 2.0XT will only be offered in Premium and Touring trims, starting at $27,995 (not including destination). These models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four, sending 250 hp and 258 lb-ft to all four wheels. Fuel economy doesn't suffer terribly with this more powerful engine, as only the CVT is offered. Subaru quotes figures of 23/28 mpg here.
