2003 Subaru Baja Silver W/ Grey Interior 56k Miles 4 Door 4 Cylinder on 2040-cars
Brooklyn, New York, United States
Have owned this car since late 2004. It has seen me through many rainstorms, floods, snowstorms, and high snow drifts. It is, simply put, a tank. AWD gets through anything.
The car has two major problems: -- It needs a paint job. It is pealing in areas and is most noticeable around the hood. You can see it in the pictures. I did my best to accurately depict it. -- The car has a blown head gasket. It overheats after being driven about a mile. A tow truck or flatbed will be needed upon purchase to pick up the vehicle. Also, the driver's side mirror's plastic casing is cracked. The mirror however works fine. It still operates by the remote control in the front seat. The upholstery is grey, clean with no burn discernible burn marks. Aside from the head gasket the engine works fine. It starts right up and will drive smoothly for a little while. The back of the car has no top. The leather ripped from exposure to the elements long ago. The bed is good condition and the tailgate works fine. I work in the city and I don't drive the car nearly as much as I used to. I simply don't need it, so it doesn't pay for me to fix it. It can still be a great car for someone. I love this car. Its gotten me through a lot. If I ever do buy a new car, I'll be sticking with Subaru. With a little help, I think this would make a perfect first car for a new driver. The car has 56,000 original miles, and is worth about $9,000 in good working condition. I'm generously subtracting $2,000 for the paint and another $2,000 for the engine work, although both should be less than that. Or you need a new mechanic. That being said, I've started this auction at $3,000, so even with paint and the engine work, you're still saving $2,000. I did my best to show the car in full detail in the photos. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. |

Subaru mulls motorsports return, nixes small CUV plans
Fri, 08 Aug 2014The Subaru WRX STI breaking the automotive lap record at the Isle of Man might be just the beginning of the headlines trumpeting a Subaru racecar. According to the latest rumors, the Japanese brand is looking at taking motorsports more seriously in the future. That could possibly even mean endurance racing at Le Mans.
According to Auto Express, the brand is mulling a greater participation in motorsport, but the big question is where. The World Rally Championship isn't a certainty because it now favors smaller cars like the Volkswagen Polo. Subaru still competes in series like Rally America and Global Rallycross, but there are bigger stages to play on.
What's interesting, is that this commitment to motorsports comes right as the automaker is denying plans to build a small CUV for its passenger car lineup. According to Auto Express, the company has no intention of developing a crossover smaller than the current XV Crosstrek. Even if the sales are there, it would just cost too much to develop. In the US, at least, the XV is doing great with sales up 42 percent in July.
Subaru WRX STI gets all gymkhana slidey in new European ad
Fri, 18 Jul 2014A good partner makes sacrifices for a significant other. They aren't always fun, but sometimes chores have to be done. Subaru's European ad for its new WRX STI clearly understands that dynamic, as it shows what to what lengths a guy is willing to go in order to get his lady some bread in time for breakfast. Of course, running errands in a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sports sedan down picturesque roads is hardly drudgery.
The wordless ad for the WRX STI says everything you could ever want to know about the winged blue Subaru. It expertly mixes some fantastic gravel rally footage with just a bit of inspiration from Ken Block's Gymkhana videos, as well. The automaker makes the right choice of actually letting the audience hear the growly exhaust and squealing tires over the music, too.
If this was your daily route to the bakery, you'd probably be prepared for a round of the World Rally Championship within a couple of months. Scroll down to watch the Subaru ad about a very polite WRX STI owner making sure breakfast is on the table.
How new car shortages may impact your buying experience
Wed, 04 Sep 2013If you want further proof that the auto industry is bouncing back, look no further than the empty lots and forecourts of your local dealership. According to a story by The Wall Street Journal, continued high demand for mainstream cars is overtaxing automakers' ability to produce enough models. Several dealers interviewed for the story are reporting two-week supplies as opposed to the typical two-month allocations.
With sales expected to hit 1.4 million units when August numbers arrive shortly and incentive spending down to its lowest amount since January, these limited supplies are pushing prices even higher. For example, according to the WSJ, the average price of a Ford Fusion is up past $26,000. Unfortunately, it's difficult for manufacturers to increase production quickly. If it invests in its facilities, as many manufacturers have done, it risks wasting cash if growth suddenly slows. At the same time, the momentum gained over the past several years could be short lived if vehicle supplies continue to dwindle. "Manufacturers are in a precarious situation," notes Karl Brauer, a senior director at Kelley Blue Book.
Low interest rates and a wealth of desirable features are also allowing customers to purchase more expensive vehicles while justifying their higher overall price tags, a situation that is compounding supply shortages. Even now, during the annual end-of-summer clearance season, deals on new vehicles are remarkably difficult to come by. According to the report, the Toyota Corolla is in a self-inflicted state of shortage, as Toyota clears out inventory in anticipation of the new 2014 generation arriving in dealers. Ford's supplies should rebound as Fusion production comes on line at its Flat Rock, Michigan factory. The Chevrolet Impala, Honda Odyssey, Civic, and Accord and Subaru Forester are also facing shortages.
