Honest and Reliable - Simply the Best
We have been satisfied customers of PDX automotive for 19 years now. Gerard and John have always treated us fairly and honestly, and stand behind their work 100%. They have expertly solved some very difficult problems with our cars over the years. A recent example: I had my car towed there one evening after it broke down. The next day I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had correctly diagnosed the problem, repai... view morered my car, and had it ready for me that afternoon, all for a very fair and reasonable price. This is just one of many examples of the excellent customer service we have received from them. We would never consider bringing our cars elsewhere. Thank you, Gerard and John!

The real deal
I went out of my way to cross town because of the promise of integrity and mechanics with a conscience. As a single young woman who knows nothing about cars I am easy prey to take advantage of by mechanics, and unfortunately this is an industry that has developed a notorious reputation for that. The owner seems to take this reputation of integrity seriously and his customers recognize and appreciate it. While waiting... view more I observed several people come in to pay their bills and all were happy and thankful to hand over their money, clearly pleased and grateful for the work. One woman I overheard saying to the owner ""I hope you know how much the community appreciates you guys."" The price was very reasonable for the amount of time and energy they put into my car. I`ll be back and I highly recommend them.

14 years of great service
I have always appreciated John and Gerard`s courteous and respectful natures, even when I would bring in junkie old cars that most people would laugh at. I have a nicer car now and I`m pleased to bring it to these guys. The work performed has always held up and I have always felt comfortable with their recomendations for service. Occasionaly, it hasn`t needed anything serious even when I was expecting the worst. I tr... view moreust them, which is important for me to be able to do. They have always answered my questions to my satisfaction.

Overpriced and Dishonest
I have to agree with the most recent reviews for PDX Automotive. They may have been exceptional at one time but my recent experience has been anything but pleasant. I have taken two cars there for repair and have spent over $2000 for two visits. After the last time, I questioned a $60 oil change and they had the nerve to tell me they have ""special heavy duty oil and filters"". I call BS! The oil used wasn`t even syn... view morethetic.
Finding a good, honest, and reasonable mechanic is difficult at best. Thank you for gouging me PDX Automotive, you lost a customer that was ready to be a lifetime customer.

Horribly Overpriced Parts, Expensive Labor, Long Wait for Service
This repair shop is good for diagnosis ONLY. As far as I know (and I know near nothing about cars) they haven`t recommended that things be done when they don`t need to be - but DO NOT have them do the work. I have only recently discovered how much they have been overcharging me for parts. For example: ignition module - $36.99 retail. Their price? $90. Alternator - $96 at another shop. PDX Auto? $160.

I... view moref you get your car problems diagnosed there and you bring in your own parts their 1-year guarantee goes up in smoke. No guarantee.

Their labor prices are not completely out of line but they are at the high end of the scale - $85 per hour (Feb 2009). However, they will not cut you a break on labor. If the estimate is 1.5 hours of labor and it takes them only 45 minutes, they will charge you for 1.5 hours.

Also - if your car breaks down and you have it towed there for repairs it will usually take them several days before they get to it.

I will never go there again.

20 Years of GREAT Performance/Service
After I moved to Portland, I got taken by several mechanics until I found PDX. Girard and Todd the owners have the best repair shop I have ever experienced. They are courteous, helpful and fix it right the first time. I have referred them to all my local family members and many friends who use them as well as strangers that ask me for a good shop because they too have been ripped off. If you use them, there is n... view moreo way you will be disappointed. I have been their customer for so long, 20 years, give or take, and they have always been great. Thanks PDX

Excellent Service!
Just bought a used car and was looking for someone I could take the car to that is close to my home. Found PDX Automotive through Citysearch that thought to give them a try. Boy was it a good idea. Jon, the mechanic I dealt with, was extremely helpful and they were able to do a complete inspection of my used car for great price. I will definately be trusting these guys with my car`s health from now on.

Very Professional Customer Service
I took my honda in for a standard 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance and the service was very quick and professional. It`s really close to MAX / bus stops, which is convienient too. I arrived 10 minutes after they are supposed to open in the morning and actually pulled in right before the mechanic, but hey, who hasn`t been there before, right?

Best Shop in Town
My 2001 Subaru Outback was making a horrible squeaking noise...it started out of the blue. Being short on cash, I put off taking it in for service. Soon after the squeaking, the brake light and battery light started blinking alternately when I would turn on my car. I finally called the shop to have it looked at.

I was scared that it was going to end up being a power steering pump or some other god awful thi... view moreng that would cost $600 dollars. John called me to say that a belt was loose..in fact, shredded and it would only be about $125 to fix it. The lights and squeaking was due to the fact that the belt for the alternator and the belt for the power steering hook to the same thing...so as the belt shredded up, the charge on the battery went down and the power steering started to give out.

When I got to the shop I had the best suprise EVER! The mechanic had remembered that I had gotten a new alternator from PDX Automotive - IN FEBRUARY!!! I was going to mention it once I got to the shop, but John told me there was NO CHARGE before I could even get it out.

These guys are great. They know cars and they know customer service. I have recommended them to a ton of friends.

Good First Experience-Professional Service
First time going to PDX Automotive. I am new to the area and found their info through Portland City Search. I took my Toyota pickup to them to have a new radiator and belts put in. In my dealings, I found them to be professional and competent.

? They called with an estimate before they began work
? More importantly, the estimate was accurate!
? They replaced parts that needed it and reused others that d... view moreid not.
? My truck was finished in the time they quoted me.
? I found the prices to be fair. (I normally try to work on my vehicles myself and had already taken the time to price out most of the parts that were replaced.)
? They called to tell me when the truck was finished.

I think the thing that impressed me most was that they took the time to clean all the connections on my battery and applied some anti corrosive spray. It probably took them an extra five minutes, but it speaks to the fact they might do more than what is required.

I plan on using them again in the future.
