Namco transmissions
So far we`ve taken three of our vehicles here and they have done a great job.

I just wasted two hours at this place. I made an appointment two weeks in advance. They said 20 minutes so I waited, and waited, and waited. It took two full hours and they charged me $70 for the synthetic oil. I thought it was going to cost $30. I am disgusted.

I purchased a groupon and when I received the card in the mail, I called to make an appointment. The gentleman on the phone explained that they were booked solid for the next two weeks, which was completely understandable. I have purchased from groupon before and sometimes the company with the deal gets booked up quickly, especially when they are providing a service of some sort. So anyways, I scheduled for two weeks... view more later. Then to my surprise, a few days later I received a phone call from AAMCO telling me that they had a cancellation and wanted to know if I wanted to get my service in that Thursday. I went in and was very pleased. The staff was extremely friendly and I am very happy. They definitely care about their customers and have great customer service. I will be taking my car there from now on for all car related issues. Thanks again AAMCO!

I have firsthand experience with this location. I purchased a groupon for discounted services (including 3 oil changes) that expires 1 year from the date of purchase. It took 3 months for the required coupon to arrive. Once received, I called to make an appointment and was informed that they only schedule 3 oil changes per day and are only open during regular business hours and closed on weekends. Most people, myself... view more included, work during business hours. This strikes me as intentionally selling a product that is difficult for most people to use. Its akin to selling more tickets than there are seats on an airplane. I spoke with the manager about this who could not have cared less about my predicament. In fact, he blames the situation on Groupon! Bottom line: These people ripped me off without even getting my car in the shop! Now, that?ˆ™s a first!

My mechanic for life!
This is the most honest shop in the city and also reasonably priced. Its a very family oriented shop which is hard to find these days. They took care of my car and made sure that I was happy. Its my only car and they made sure that I had a rental available while my car was being repaired. I was assured that if there were any questions or problems, i could call anytime 24/7 and they would answer. I got my car back and... view more couldn`t be happier! I will be taking my car to this location only. They are definitely going to be my mechanic for life!

SCAM ARTIST
I took my 99 VW Jetta to AAMCO on 3/10/10 in reference to the transmission shifting slow. Being that the vehicle does not have a transmission dip stick it is impossible to check the fluid on your own. Within 15 minutes I was told that my transmission needed replaced at a price of $4800.00. The representative was insistent that this needed to be done ASAP. I asked the lady whom diagnosed my vehicle if it is possible... view more that the fluid was low causing the problem and she replied ""no"". I told the rep that I needed time to think about replacement due to the age of the vehicle and the high cost. Upon leaving AAMCO I took the car to a VW dealership who took nearly two hours diagnosing the vehicle only to have them tell me my transmission DID NOT need replaced and was only 1 quart low on fluid. I paid AAMCO $45 to be scammed. Total cost to repair the vehicle was $18 at the VW dealership. That is a savings of $4782.00!!! The vehicle once again runs like brand new.

Couldn`t be happier!
This AAMCO location is how ALL shops should be. I started having tranny problems on my Lexus RX300 after 214,000 miles. It had problems shifting into 4th gear, then my 1st gear went out leaving the car stuck using 2nd and 3rd. Let me start by saying that I first went to Metro transmissions, after seeing all the good reviews on this site. Although there were a ton of cars on the lot to be worked on, (not hurting fo... view morer business) they wanted $4338 for a remanufactured trans. Wow! I know Lexus parts are expensive but that is extremely high. So then I started a search to buy my own reman trans and found some for around $2750. I then only needed a shop to install it. My trusted mechanic, Bernie`s garage in Clintonville which is a GREAT Mom and Pop garage, recommended Aamco down the street. Now I`m normally not the kind of guy to trust these chain places like Midas, Tuffy, Jiffy Lube, you know, the places where the turnover is extremely high and have lazy 20-something kids working there that used to work at Taco Bell last week. But because Bernie`s recommended and a needed to shop around, I called them. What a find they turned out to be! They could install a remanufactured tranny for $2890, total. I couldn`t believe it. So I dropped off my car that day. This place has actually been around since 1963, had a ton of ""happy customer"" letters inside adorning the walls, and had the feel of a family owned business. V.J., then owner, was very knowledgeable and friendly and instilled a sense of security in me having worked on so many cars in the past. They had the work completed in 3 days, priced as promised, and even came with a 3 yr/36,000 mile warantee. I couldn`t be happier with this shop, the no-nonsense mechanics that I chatted with there, or the inexpensive price. The car drives perfectly and I saved myself over $1000 with my first choice. I will recommend this N. High st Aamco to any of my friends that need tranny work.

Friendly but over priced and poor service
The Check Engine light came on in my car and it was running rough, so I brought it in. $300 later they replaced the Oxygen filters and sent it home-within a few miles my check engine light was back on and it was running as it was before. I brought it in again the next day. I was told that NOW I suddenly had a leak in my oxygen output and that would need to be replaced. The labor and parts would cost $1700. I brought ... view moreit home, with it running even worse than when I brought it in and now stalling out on me. I decided to get a second opinion and went to a dealer, knowing the dealer would charge me more but could give me a definitive answer to my problem. The dealer charged me $225 for diagnosis (PCV tube had collapsed, nothing to do with Oxygen output), parts, and labor, and said that someone had been tampering with some tubes on my car and actually screwed them down. Thanks to the dealer my car is back to running normal and I was able to save myself almost $1500 by NOT using Aamco again and by not having my car once again misdiagnosed. For this reason I highly do not recommend this auto mechanic.
