awful customer service, charging $100 for a quote!

Very dissappointed in Jack`s auto barn. Was hoping to get work done here but we will never bring any of our cars here after we were charged $100 for a quote!!! We were never informed verbally, or in writing, nor is it posted anywhere that we would be charged for getting an estimate done on work for our truck. I plan on writing a letter to the better business bureau as well because I feel it was very unfair!

Jack is a great mechanic!

Just over a year ago, when I moved to NJ, I took my car to a mechanic in Elmwood Park for a starting problem (increasingly the car would do nothing when I turned the key the first time). I told them I thought it was the ignition switch and they said it was the battery, so they changed out my battery and I went on my way. The next week, I had the original problem. I put up with it until I found Jack`s Auto Barn. Jack ... view morelooked it over, decided it was probably the ignition switch, found just the part I needed (not easy- it`s a 22 year old car), didn`t replace things that didn`t need to be replaced, and my car has been starting perfectly ever since. I had also taken my daughter`s car to the original mechanic who had replaced the brakes- he`d left them so loose that the hand brake went all the way to the top before engaging and the foot pedal had to go to the floor to be effective. My daughter and I have very busy schedules so she just dealt with it until last week when I took the car to Jack`s Auto Barn. Jack fixed the brakes so they stop the way they should. He also found that her spark plugs were loose and 3 tires had low pressure (I`d asked him to figure out why her gas mileage had dropped). He did not offer to replace the plugs or anything that did not need to be replaced. He warned us about the dangers of not using OEM parts (previous mechanics apparently took shortcuts). From my interactions with Jack, I believe him to be that rare person- an honest, smart mechanic. He will tell you what the problem is, what should be done to fix it, and what you can probably get away with so you have a choice if you`re on a limited budget. He`s also pleasant to deal with. I strongly recommend him.
