Jim Mabry is the most honest mechanic I have had work on my car. I`ve taken my 2003 Pontiac Aztec to him for 5 years and have been sent away without charge numerous times because the fix was easy or my concern didn`t warrant any repair. When I have required service, I`ve never had to return because the problem wasn`t fixed. Reliable, honest and timely -ALWAYS.

Most competent, reasonable mechanic I have known
I have taken my cars to mechanics in five cities for forty years, and the best experience by far is Jim Mabry of Quantum Mechanics. Three different cars, across six years, probably fifteen repair incidents, all performed flawlessly, on time, at reasonable cost. But here`s the Key: I have no personal or family relationship with Jim; have never even seen him out of his shop; but I was treated like I was his bro... view morether. Here are three JM quotes I recall: ""Your gas cap was left slightly loose, which triggered the FIX ENGINE light. I tightened the cap and reset the light. No charge."" ""I don`t recommend you make this repair."" ""I found a part in Phoenix; can have it here tomorrow and installed by Friday; cost X$."" Note to Citysearch: When someone says she had a bad meal at my favorite restaurant, I shrug: it can happen. But Jim Mabry ""nasty"" ""unethical"" ""ripped off""; that CANNOT happen. Suggest investigation of these reviews/reviewers. I now live 1,000 miles from Quantum; almost certainly will never see Jim again. But those kinds of disparaging reviews can hurt the integrity of Citysearch, if they are founded in malice.

Pleasant and easy to work with
I just took my Forester in for a check engine light. He dropped what he was doing and scanned it immediately, then told me the code and looked it up - fuel vapor recovery system. He cleared the code and said if I`m lucky it won`t come back, otherwise bring the car in and he`ll fix it. All at no charge. He did not seem arrogant or unpleasant, quite the reverse. This is a one-man outfit and he`s clearly not a salesm... view morean, so all will depend on your personal relationship with him. He`s been there since `92 so obviously enough people like him!

Avoid like the plague!
The owner is highly unethical and a nasty, arrogant individual. Not only does he not give valid receipts he charges ridiculous prices for shoddy work. He screws with your car to make you keep coming back and then lies about what he previously told you.

Do not use this shop or do business with, Jim Mabry, the owner unless you want you and your vehicle to leave there in shambles. Bad shop, bad energy.

Be where charges, no receipts , doesn`t show old or replaced parts , expensive in my opinion. Take
Referred by a good friend who has been using Jim for many years, but is not knowledgeable with car mechanics. Problems; two weeks to repair, probably too busy, should tell costumer how long it will take. Does not give or show you replaced parts. Charged 67 dollars to fill my tank full of gas, say`s he test drove it a couple of times, tank just over the half when returned, my car gets 26 miles/gallon, no receipt , ... view morewould have driven over two hundred miles. Changed 3 spark plugs and already had access to the plugs and used my plugs, charged 55 dollars, probably took less then 10 minutes. Didn`t like the way my clutch felt, not slipping. Told him that was the way the car was, insisted (even got a little angry) he wanted to bleede the clutch to remove any trapped air, , charged 88 dollars, no change in clutch pedal. Then said it needed a new vacuum booster so the clutch pedal would be easier to press (about 500 dollars). Took the car in because the car would stall at idle. He did fix the problem and changed 3 spark plugs at a total cost of about 900 dollars. If he did replace the broken part charged about 250 dollars. Be where of excess charges including shop charge of 20 dollars. Doesn`t show receipts or show old replaced parts. It`s hard to find a mechanic you can trust and who doesn`t take advantage

Honest, Reliable, Competent
My Infiniti Q45 was an inheritance from my father, so I trusted his upkeep of the vehicle. However, due to its high mileage and extensive use, it started experiencing problems from the first day I brought it home. Took it to the Infinity dealership and they said it was a transmission problem that would take thousands to repair. Fazed by the costly fix, my father referred me to Quantum and the Jim the mechanic. After ... view morea quick computer diagnostics check, Jim found that my engine coils were worn out and a few other nicknacks that were keeping my baby from running smoothly. Quick fix, less than $500, and my Infiniti is still running after 195k without any setbacks. Honest, reliable, competent service for import vehicles.

Honest, competent and reliable.
After several dissatisfying visits to other repair shops, a friend referred me to Jim at Quantum Mechanics. At the time I was recently divorced, knew very little about cars and had a Honda that needed extensive engine work. Jim was very polite and straightforward. He took the time to explain the problems, the various repairs that could be performed and cost options. I felt much more at ease with him essentially givi... view moreng me the scenarios and letting me ultimately decide how I wanted to proceed; something I had never experienced at any other shop. Customer service was outstanding. Jim kept me up to date on the progress and setbacks as they arose.

Jim has been my preferred mechanic for the last ten years. He does not advertise so all his customers come from referrals by other customers. He is honest, extremely knowledgeable about all makes of automobiles, more than competent (he has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), stands behind his work 100 percent and makes one feel confident that the work is being done is going to get done correctly. At times I have stopped by unannounced with a simple car problem, which Jim will fix it with no charge.

Sadly, the predominant belief still currently held is that mechanics are dishonest, will sell you unnecessary parts and generally cannot be trusted. This is not the case when you take your car to Quantum Mechanics. I recommend this shop to anyone. Also, bringing a treat for Jim?s adorable, and fiercely intelligent dog Foster is advisable.

Avoid for more than an oil change.
My experience with Mr Mabry, the owner, has been one of my worst here in Tucson. I checked the place out by getting an oil change which went O.K. Parking is sparse and for someone with MD it wasn`t disability friendly. An almost 2 foot curb and no ramp up into the office. I was given changed diagnosis, parts ordered that ""got lost in the mail"".... twice! 3 months of wasted time to be told on the phone, I never orde... view morered the parts and don`t want to fix your car.
