I took my 2000 Toyota in for s...
I took my 2000 Toyota in for service because my engine light was on. They told me I needed $786 ($280 spark plugs, $221 spark plug wires and $133 pressure clean fuel injectors, $42 shop supplies, $38 tax) in repairs. The fault code indicated a cylinder 1&4 misfire. I called two Toyota dealers for a second opinion and they said it could be a coil pack (because both the 1&4 cylinders are associated with one coil pac... view morek). The first thing they would do would be to swap the coil pack with another to see if the problem went with the pack. This seemed to make a lot of sense and in fact the coil pack was the problem and was not included in the $786 quote. So basically they would have charged me $786 and the problem still would not have been fixed. I chose to take it to the dealer instead and wanted half of the $90 hour diagnostic cost because the diagnosis of the problem was inaccurate and I know it didn?????????t take them 1 hour to check the fault code and look at the spark plugs. I just wanted to pay them for the work they did, even though all they did was say my engine is running rough so they would start with spark plug, wires and injector cleaning without even looking at the problem. The manager said he would talk to the owner and give me a call back. I waited 2 weeks and no call. When I called he refused to give me half the money back and would not let me talk to the owner but suggested that I take my complaint to the AAA arbitration board. I was also disappointed in their prices. I did get the spark plugs replaced for $190 (as compared to $294). On the Toyota there are only 3 wires going the rear plugs and they wanted $221 for 3 wires!
