I have recently had a positive
I have recently had a positive experience at Hans VW. In a more in depth conversation, I gained a fuller understanding of how the decisions were made for the repairs on my car, in consideration of my personal situation.

Straight up good guys and good work
Always straight forward and honest. They work on my 71 super beetle. I am no idiot; I can spot poor work and I have high standards. These guys do a nice job. Remember, they are human. Just make sure you write down what you want or they forget some things. Nice guys who won`t do unrequested or high cost repairs without checking with you. Thank goodness they keep this thing going, or I would be up a creek.

Lies! Poor service! Slow! Smug! Incompetent!!!
No stars!!! This is a very dishonest shop. Where do i start? They took too long... they scratched my car... lied and said they didn`t take the head off my engine during a timing case oil leak job when i could see fresh sealant around it, and they failed to replace the head gasket to boot! They failed to have the alignment done after a strut mount job, and didn`t tell me until i noticed my steering wheel was crook... view moreed. I asked why, and Hans said ""we don`t do alignments here"" as if i was supposed to know that. 3000 miles later, the head started to leak oil and my insurance company made me go back to him because it was an oil leak that brought me to him in the first place. Now 2200 miles later... i take my car to another shop an they tell me that the manifold was put on wrong and my A/C vac is broken. The new shop asked if i had engine work done recently? To top it all off, they said i need new strut mounts!!! Beware of Hans VW, they are crooks. Once Hans saw how good my insurance is, he saw $$$ and took us for a ride. I will be seeking retribution for the strut mount job and the lies. Don`t trust them! In the beginning i was understanding, but after my car was in his shop for a total of a month between two visits all i can say is F*** those dudes!!!

These guys should be ashamed to call themselves a VW shop!
I have been a Type 1 VW driver for 40 years and I always went to Dougs VW for my service but since he has gone out of business I decided to try Hans VW since they are right across the street and have been in business a long time. My beautiful `72 Ghia needed a new clutch so I took it in and asked them to check the timing while it was there. After paying $700+ bucks for everything I pulled out of the parking lot and e... view morexperienced immediate and severe bogging in the lower RPM`s. I drove around the block and pulled back in to see what was up. Hans Jr. got in to take it for a test drive and with me there in the car with him experienced the same problem. He amazingly told me it ran like a top and that it was the new clutch that I had to get used to. Fair enough. After giving them the major benefit of the doubt for a week and the car still running terribly (MUCH worse that when I dropped it off to them) I went back to see if they could dial it in. He blew me off saying it was the way they all run. He must think his customers are idiots... Believe me, after owning 6 bugs, 2 buses, and 3 Ghias, I`m intimately aware of how a Type 1 VW should run. After 3 return trips to try and get it running correctly I decided that I would be much better off taking it to a shop that is honestly concerned with getting a customers car running properly and addressing their concerns up front instead of shamelessly doing totally half assed work and grabbing the money while offering a warranty that isn`t worth squat. I would rather have them tell me that it needs this or that and that it will cost me a couple hundred bucks to make it right instead of making my car run worse than when I brought it in and amazingly telling me it`s all good! Never will I bring another car to this shop of hacks and I hope this review steers some people away from a similarly awful experience. I only wish that I had read all the bad reviews prior to me taking my car there. It would have saved me a whole lot of time, money, and trouble.

Nice trusting shop
I bought a `78 bus last SEPT and took it in for the heater fan. It was much less expensive then I thought. I went again a couple months ago and told Hans to fix anything mechanically wrong he could find. They found bolts missing off the axles amongst other things and informed me before fixing. EXECELLENT service. The bus just purrs now. I will be back. Thanks Hans!!

Lacks customer service
This shop lacks interest in the customer or for that matter working on cars. Inspection requested but minimal done. Missed some vital problems. Had to take to another shop. I feel like they just want to get you in the door and out and if you ask questions they are impatient and a bit rude. They have been in business along time so probable do fine work most of the time but I`ve lost my confidence in them and will mak... view moree the trek to another shop.

Quick Fair Service
I went in to Hans VW a little skeptical after the reviews I read online. I showed up a little before they opened and had the chance to peer through the windows and get a feel of the place. It`s your typical little family run auto repair shop, dirty but organized. I gave the keys of my 98` GTI to Hans Sr. and left. By 10am Hans Jr. called me, explained my problem and quoted me a price to fix my ignition switch. B... view morey 3pm my car was fixed and ready for me to pick up. Upon arrival Hans Sr. gave me my keys and said I need an alignment and suggested a place I could go.

I left and while on my trip home noticed the car idling very strange. I turned around and returned to the shop ready to unload on them. I explained the NEW problem and Hans Jr. took a look, explained what it could be and said it may cost upwards of $600 or could be a simple $45 fix or the computer would just relearn how to idle. I explained I`m on a budget, so he quickly showed me how to fix the issue myself. I didn`t think I`d be able to handle that so agreed to take it in the following day. Thank goodness, I drove around on my way home and the idler re-learned how to work and the car drives great!

I am only giving them 4 stars as I know I will be returning to Hans VW next time I need work done, so I`m giving them room to improve. I would recommend Hans VW to anyone in West Seattle that wants great, quick work done on their VW or Audi.

Hans and Hans (Jr & Sr) and their team are completely reliable!
They always quote me higher than they end up charging me (so I know what to expect, and feel like a get a deal), and they do a great job sourcing hard-to-find reasonably-priced parts for my `84 diesel rabbit. They once gave me a free rim from a junker out back to replace my bent one, and another time one fella gave me a ride home out of his way. Quick service and always really pleasant to work with. They`re also real... view morely happy to explain things or show me parts of what they`re working on.

Hack repair shop.
They charged me $1100 for a transmission on a `73 VW Beetle. $80 to change 4 spark plugs which they didn`t even change the wires. My fuel lines are soaked in gasoline. My generator belt broke after I`d had my car back less than 2 weeks. My car still leaks oil. This shop should not be in business. By far the worst experience I`ve ever had with a repair shop.

Best auto repair experince
Took my 2001 TDI Jetta there barley running. Thought that I had major problems. Hans was able to look at it right away. Found out it was just a cloged fuel filter and fixed it for me on the spot. He only even charged for the part because he said it was a quick easey install. Went in expecting days with out a car and a big bill. He got me back on the road in 30 minutes and for only $50 dollors. Will tell all my frein... view moreds and defenitly be back.
