Consumer Protection Act violations:
1 Sale by Deception .. bait and switch. Quoted me one price but charged another.
2 Charged above "10% law" ... said job would cost $850. Later demanded $1990.
3 No customer bill of rights posted in lobby.
4 Failed to honor warrantee, Told me to stop trying to find problems and insisted tranny was fine.
5 When I said I`d have their work fixed elsew... view morehere manager stated "Okay" and walked off.
6 Failed to charge tax ...manager put cash in pocket and receipt has no tracking capability.
When Transmissions Northwest was "finished" my tranny would let out a loud clunk or bang when I turned on the ignition, put it into gear or when I shifted into 2nd. It bogged down into overdrive too early and fail to release until my speed dropped to 15mph.
March 1 ... described transmission problem to Transmission Northwest owner. Told it would cost $850. Also also told there is no such thing as a rebuilt tranny for sale..mine would need to be rebuilt. That would be a lie.
March 4...Took my `98 Pontiac into shop. After it was in pieces I was told tranny was "completely fried" and would be $1990.00 (despite the fact it had been shifting fine). If I wanted it back I would have to pay $360 diagnostic charge and have it towed.
March 14 ... Told job was "done". Paid owner and picked up car. Went back
complaining 2 plastic hubcap caps were missing.
I turn on car and all the warning lights are on. Manager can`t get his scanners (2 of them) to turn off warning lights but says it`s no problem .. "it happens when a new tranny is installed. It`s nothing to worry about."
I go back to office a 3rd time when I discover tranny "clunks" into drive. Owner says "It`s fine" and tells me to stop "playing" with it.
I go back to office 4th time when "clunk" gets worse. This time owner says the problem is "loose tranny mounts" but says "We`ve worked on your car all morning".
When I question the owner about racket coming from beneath the car he says it`s my motor and is angry stating "You`re trying to find problems. You`re trying to blame us. We`re professionals , you`re the customer. I`ve been doing this for 19 years." "You wanted us to fix your tranny ..we fixed it". I state "I`ll go have it fixed". Owner says "Okay" and walks off.
On my way home car is making so much racket, driving awful on freeway and "lugging" into overdrive and not wanting to release until I drop to 15mph, I`m afraid I`ll tear it up. I go to Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way.
Turns out the racket beneath the car is caused by tranny fluid 5 quarts low .. half empty. Mechanic says the 20 mile drive most likely caused damage to clutch plates, bearings and so on.
The warning lights meant something after all ... The right speed sensor connector was broken. More importantly ... the speed sensor inside the transmission was either broken or missing. Cost to fix: $1100 at least for the 10-hour job plus other problems such as the overdrive issue. Could cost up to $4000 to rebuild.
Transmission NW owner had claimed "there`s no such thing as rebuilt transmissions...you have to rebuild them yourself." I would later discover from Harnish GMC in Puyallup GM had 200 remanufactured trannys for my car with 100,000 mile warranties for $2000.
Gave the new job to Harnish and mechanic stated tranny mounts were all loose causing one that costs $220 to break and another`s bolt to strip itself. Also stated ALL the bolts holding tie-rod and front end together, even the power steering were missing or loose and would have come off in time causing me to lose control. I am now suing.

Stay away. This business repeatedly misrepresented how long it would take to repair my car, and failed to return calls when I made inquiries about when I could expect the work to be finished. Along the way the reasons for this were: manager has the flu, broke a part, can`t find the right part, got the part but broke something else, (transmission cooler line)got that part and then broke another part (crank angle sens... view moreor). When I finally got the car back, the inside and outside were covered in greasy hand-and-footprints. The wiring to the car`s stereo was cut off the battery and then the wires were just jammed under the battery connector and the battery connector cover was missing (the stereo didn`t work after this). The hood support, a gas strut that holds the hood up, was removed for some reason and never reinstalled (more broken and/or missing parts). When I finally got hold of them, I was told that they could fix all this in 15 minutes if I brought the car back, which I can``t trust based on current experience.
What makes me angry is the fact that the car was delivered in this condition. Nobody bothered to check the quality and completeness of the repair job before releasing the car. Even the oil-change guys put paper on the floor and don`t break things like this shop did. The shop is miles away from my house so there`s the time and gas to bring it back to fix stuff that shouldn`t have happened.
There`s a new check engine code now. It went in with a transmission fault code (verified by a Ford dealer) and now has an oxygen sensor fault code (another broken part, perhaps?) I`ll get to pay another shop to figure that one out.
Each time I contacted the shop they were either evasive, dismissive, or aggressive in their response. They seem to think that since they work on some expensive cars (mine is not) that this is acceptable behavior. My money is the same color as anyone`s so I would expect the same treatment as anybody else, unless this is the norm for this shop.
I have notified my credit card company to hold this payment until I can have an independent shop take a look at what was done, because given what`s happened so far that I can actually see I`m not sure of the quality of what was done. They provided a vaguely worded written warranty but after all this I`m not sure I would take it back to them.
This has been an unpleasant experience. I hired them to fix the transmission based on representations from the manager and I certainly hope the transmission repair was done more competently than my experience so far indicates.
