I recently went in for a high ...
I recently went in for a high idle. They cleaned the IAC value with some brake cleaner, checked for vacuum leaks with a hand carry device that puts `smoke` in the system (if you see smoke coming out of places, then its leaking). Total time less than an hour, Total cost $106.03. Even charged for shop supplies $5 and hazardous material fee of $3??. This place is really really high on their hourly rate. (I wish I can ma... view moreke over $100/hr). Not much in trying to maintain their customers. I went in a year ago with a squeaking power steering unit and an oil pan gasket leak. Since they had to lift the engine to get to the oil pan gaskets to pull the engine would be better (they said that the labor cost would be lower than trying to do the work on the vehicle and replacing the power steering unit would be a lot easier too). Once completely pulled, informed me that the crank shaft was bad, flywheel bad, etc. and out the door with $4000+ and a new engine. WOW. A idle problem and they jack up the price for a simple fix. Additionally, said the IAC value might be bad if does it again and the `cleaning` wouldn`t work again. Price to replace $260 plus labor on top of that. Went to parts store a block away, IAC valve $65. Also, EGR valve has a slight leak, replace also for $260 plus labor, parts store $115. Stay clear of this place unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for their "Service". So much for honest mechanics.
