Founded in 1906 as a fabrication company, Washington Auto Carriage built and repaired horse-drawn buggies, stagecoaches, and cargo wagons.Washington Auto Carriage built wooden school bus bodies with roll-up canvas windows. Later, the company made shackles for the state prison in Walla Walla, Washington. Some of the shackles are on display in a local museum. The company also built a mining crew bus in its early years.In 1954, Washington Auto Carriage moved from a smaller shop in downtown Spokane to its current location. Washington Auto Carriage was one of the founding members of the Truck Equipment and Body Builder Association, the predecessor of the National Truck Equipment Association. Washington Auto Carriage continues to be a member of the NTEA.By adapting to the changing economy, Washington Auto Carriage has succeeded over the years.
