My Rover was delivered here by tow truck after a breakdown (now Dare Britannia -- name change for copyright reasons: ?ˆ?Rover?ˆ? trademark is owned by Land Rover North America). The tow was 30 miles in the direction of home (which is another 2-1/2 hours away -- more about driving time in a moment). It was an electrical problem, intermittent and bizarre -- but in scant time the electrical specialist isolated the problem ... view moreto a failing alternator. I got a comprehensive email report on the trouble-shooting steps plus a phone call to explain theory of how a less-than-catastrophic failure in power output could produce such weird symptoms. Also got an after-action report on cold start and warm start testing after new alternator installed. The whole forensic process was superb, matched by direct communication with the technician in charge. To be clear on that, my first phone conversation was with the owner, who conferenced the electrical specialist to introduce who would be responsible for troubleshooting. Work was finished in a bit more than a day at shop rates and parts costs comparable to my local garage (Long Beach peninsula). Tremendous service, really -- I?ˆ™ve put 330,000 miles on the rig since new (1997 NAS Defender 90 soft top) and at some dealerships, the service queue is days or weeks to get started. After this first experience at Dare Britannia, I?ˆ™ve made the 5-hour round trip twice for additional work. The attention to detail is remarkable, and the range of skills to deal with out-of-production parts is top notch. My latest project cost $6,000 and every penny well spent. Despite spanning the Christmas holidays and needing delivery of parts from the UK, the work was done on schedule. And like the first emergency repair job, I got a steady flow of progress reports from the shop floor -- emails, two sets of shop photos on newly fabricated fittings, and a tech journal growing to 40 numbered items as the project went forward -- the most helpful customer interface I?ˆ™ve ever had. Hats off to the whole crew here. My Rover?ˆ™s never had higher quality care.

I only gave one star because I couldn
My advice is to STAY AWAY!!! I paid Charles Kellogg $55,000.00 over 5 years and he will not give me my Land Rover 109. I have a positive balance in my trust account with him, but he will not disburse that either. I was double billed for work. Billed for work not completed. And, billed for work allegedly done but not authorized by me. This has become a nightmare. I know of at least 3 other people who have had similar... view more experience, including two who have successfully sued Charles Kellogg.

poor service and very questionable billing practices
The owner of this establishment -Charles- does come across very excentric but knowledgable at first. Somewhat of an attention seeker who likes to congratulate himself on how knowledgable he is. He has clearly been in the Land Rover business for some time but he is lacking elementary business skills. The skills I am speaking off are, you do the work in a timely fashion at a agreed upon price. The issue I have with... view more his business is that the work takes months and the billing is anything but clear. My bill has grown nearly tenfold without any good or reasonable explanation. Charles will not take my calls but will hide behind one of his office workers. I am convinced he checks caller ID before he picks up the phone. His initial estimates are meaningless since he takes it upon himself to authorize additional labor and then try to bill you for it. He makes it sound like all of the classic Land Rover parts are difficult or impossible to aquire to play up his value. This is generally (clearly with some exceptions) not true since I am aware of multiple retailers in the USA who specialize in classic LR parts. Not to mention UK retailers who ship to the USA. Again he seems like a nice guy and some of his mechanics are superb but he runs a very questionalble business. I will never go back there again. If you have an unlimited budget and you are not worried about seeing your vehicle for months this is your place to go.
