Seattle auto service
I took my Mini Cooper S 2006 to Fat City a couple of days ago and came back a very happy customer. Will certainly go back to them and will never ever go back to a dealer again. They even dropped me off at work in the morning after I dropped my car at their location (I believe they can do it if you are close to their shop, and I work in downtown Seattle, so it was convenient for both me and the shop).
I had a probl... view moreem with my Mini being too noisy and bumpy even for the sports model that it is. I mentioned it to my dealer several times in the last three years, but they would always come back with ""there is nothing wrong."" Instead they always found something else that was broken every time I went there. The dealer wanted me to bring in the car again in 3-4 months for a power steering hose leakage problem the last time I was with there back in April this year. After several expensive and sub-standard services where the number of things that ""need to be replaced"" kept increasing all the time, I decided to take my chances with a non-Mini dealer.
At Fat City, I asked for a full inspection report of the car. They called me after the full inspection and explained to me that the control arm bushing was cracked and that was the reason for the rough ride and all the noise inside the car. They replaced the bushing, refilled the engine oil, topped off the wiper fluids and also replaced a broken side rear marker light. They charged me about $1100 for the work. As I was driving the car back from home I was really happy - no vibrations, noise and a much smoother ride over all those uneven surfaces and bumps! I had almost come to accept that my Mini had always been as rough and noisy to ride as it was before the repairs. And, I can`t believe that the Mini dealer kept saying everything was alright with my car. Other than that, I appreciated Fat City`s attention to detail even in washing the car at the end of the service - the exhaust pipes were shining steel again. I can`t remember when they last shone like that - none of the expensive car washes had cleaned those pipes.
They also showed me a picture of the power steering hose seepage and assured me it`s nothing to be concerned about as of now. I will be bringing my car back in after 5K miles and take a decision on whether to replace the hose at that time.
I am giving 4 stars though because of one little thing. I noticed that they did not align the wheels properly after they replaced the bushing. I have to spend some time on getting the wheel alignment at Firestone where I have free lifetime alignment service. All in all though, I had a very friendly staff to deal with, and my car drives great.

Friendly, Reliable AND Professional
I took my 03 Jetta to this shop in late October, at this point it was just over 100k miles. I was a bit nervous because I knew that I would need some work done on my car, and I knew it would be pricey. I was also nervous because I?ˆ™m not very ?ˆ?mechanically savvy?ˆ? and didn?ˆ™t want to be completely ripped off.
Well, from the very start, making my appointment on the phone, I was pleased! They were able to fit me i... view moren within the week I called. The VW dealership wanted to make me use their website to set up an appointment at first and then said I couldn?ˆ™t come in for 2 weeks. When I brought my car in, the mechanic walked me through the engine parts and showed me the leaks and what was wrong. They didn?ˆ™t just expect me to blindly accept everything they said. After they gave me the total bill for the repairs needed, I knew I couldn?ˆ™t do it all at once, but instead of bullying me to complete all of it at once, or making me feel poor or cheap, they told me what absolutely needed to be done now and what could wait. Also, they even helped me find a deal on tires!!
My repairs were completed within 24 hours and my car felt noticeably better! I will definitely take my jetta back here for routine maintenance and if anything else may pop up on the car.

Excellant service at Fat City
Vance and the mechanics at Fat City have serviced our 2000 BMW wagon and our 2001 VW Passat for the past 3 years. Their service has been impeccable. They are punctual and courteous and have kept our vehicles in peak condition while maintaining prices competitive and usually lower than the other service centers. Lance?ˆ™s ability to negotiate with insurance adjusters when necessary has saved us thousands of dollars. ... view moreI highly recommend Fat City auto repair and service.
They are the best auto repair center I have ever found.

They are fabulous!
I`ve used Fat City for at least six years and trust them totally to be honest and upfront with me. Lance is very knowledgeable about the cars they repair so when he checks you in - or when one of the other well-trained guys do - he will give you an estimate of the price as well as how long the repair will probably take. If they need to order a part, they can often get it the same day and then get the repair done. ... view moreBut if they need to wait for a part, they also will tell you that and when they expect to receive it. Since I`ve been going there for several years, they know my car and always check to be sure that critical items (like brakes) are in good repair. If you need to schedule work, they will do it as quickly as they can.
The shop is sparkling clean. Lance`s little dog, Gigi, greets customers. All the team are highly professional and nice guys!
Oh, and they drop me off where I need to go. Did I mention they do a complimentary car wash?

Fat City German Car
1. Person did not seem to know about a part I wanted to have it replaced on my car.
2. He made jokes about my car that I did not find it amusing when I am about to cough up $500.
3. I am waiting for them return my call. I will update the review.

Best Mechanic Shop in Seattle
Live in the greater Seattle area? Own a BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi or Land Rover? Looking for a honest mechanic and tired of going to the dealer? Then make your way to Fat City as Lance Smith and his talented team of mechanics. Sure sounds like an ad, but they are a wonderful delight when the mechanic industry (and dealers) seem to rip you off whenever they can. We`ve been taking our cars there for years and although... view more not the cheapest service in town (still less than dealer!), they help me understand what I am paying for (as I missed autoshop in high school), give a very thorough review of what is wrong, fair estiamte upfront, stay in contact for when it will be ready and deliver as promised. what is nice is they also will tell you that the amount you are goign to sink into it might or might not be worth the money instead of just taking it from you (for those of us that have emotional attachments to our cars). Wish all mechanic shops could be this professional, courteous and thorough. Thanks Lance & Team for establishing a bar other shops could learn from.

Service love
My car was repaired in a timely manor and very cheap compared to the many dealers that I have spoken with. I enjoyed the service and they will have my business in the future.

Worst Price Gouging I`ve Ever Seen
Interesting that my review was removed from here. You folks at Fat City wouldn`t have anything to do with that would you? Well, I can promise you I will continue to post my experience in every medium of every web site. Looks to me like a lot of Fat City employees are posting here...I think one should track the IP addresses of the positive comments...
I took my 1992 BMW 325IS in there (my second car) in 2002... view more. I have never forgotten how badly I was treated. It was running rough so I took it in. A kind blond girl took my information and promised an estimate in a few days. They called me and gave me the estimates. Altogether, it was around $10,500. Yes, the car is only worth about $3,500. I declined all their kind offers including a $250 steam cleaning and a $250 ""get to know your car"" offer, where the mechanic does what he`s supposed to do I guess for more money.
Anyway, it was the plug wires with caps over the spark plugs that was the problem. I agreed for them to do this work for $2,300 dollars. They were going to charge me $240 for parts per EACH plug, I have a 6 cylinder, so parts alone would be $1,440. I called the dealer to check the price. Here`s the juicy part, the dealer said, ""hey didn`t you just call from Fat City? (before I could answer) yeah, the parts are $80 each."" He also said they just plug right on. I immediately called Rip Off City and told them to halt all work. They then ripped me off by saying, well we`ve already put time into your car, so you owe us $750. Just to get my car back and they hadn`t fixed a thing. I got my car back and put the parts on myself in 30 minutes. My cost was $240 (I put them on the different ones to find the bad ones and replaced those 3). Their cost would ahve been $2,300. What a rip off company!

Nice Customer Service
I`ve had both good and bad experiences with Fat City but today I realized what a good auto shop they can be. They are great at making time for you and it`s easy to drop by (as long as there`s available parking). The guy working the counter was really nice and explained everything to me along with quotes and friendly conversation. It`s hard to find personable people these days and I will continue bringing my Mercedes ... view moreto Fat City for that reason alone.

Fat City: The Best of the Best!
I had the misfortune of buying a first model year VW New Beetle. Everyone warned me not to buy a first model year, regrettably after I had already purchased one. I love the car, but poor Volksy had issues from the start. Most noticeably an unquenchable thirst for 10W40 and a propensity for electrical misconduct.
Being an Eastsider I tried a several local shops, and of course the requisite rounds of frustra... view moretion at the dealer, but no one could help with Volksy?s incorrigible behavior.
Then I found Fat City. From the first experience I felt completely assured that I was in good hands. Lance and his team of professionals have been extremely thorough and polite. They have spent as much time as needed to make the situation and all the options clear to me. I really trust all of the guys at Fat City and am especially thankful for Lance?s wonderful sense of humor. He always puts me at ease, especially when Volksy has been particularly naughty!
I have been going to Fat City for many years now and they have never failed to resolve Volksy?s various issues. And once they are fixed they stay fixed!
The car I love is happy and so am I.
Fat City is the kind of shop that takes it?s work, it?s reputation, and it?s responsibility to their customers seriously. I highly recommend them.
