Money for nothing
I brought in my vehicle, indicating the A/C would work when I started it, but then quit. Rod apparently is experienced and knowledgable, but I don`t think he does the work anymore, just management. And he has trained his daughter, who takes the payments, to speak well with the mechanical jargon; I am sure this engenders trust among the women clients. Unfortunately, his actual mechanics are young and friendly, but ... view moredon`t perform as hoped for. I will elaborate. First, I was told that what I needed was added freon; on the bill however, it said `no diagnostics performed.` I wondered then how they could say what I needed. But, `as long as it is fixed,` I thought. When I left, the system quit just like before. I brought it back, and they told me I needed a new compressor for $460, only $190 more than what I could buy elsewhere; this is so they would insure it. They said it must be an intermittent problem; of course, they did not test the compressor. Must not have known how. They did say they would cover the cost of the freon with their putting in the new compressor. OK, I might, but wait. At the first, I was also asked about getting an oil change, with part of the proceeds going to help DV shelters. Alright, go ahead. The mechanic put an additive in for 75,000 mile plus, but apparently forgot to minus from the rest of the quantity of oil, so that it was a quart over. I trusted, until I was getting ready for a trip. Oh my! Two times, I can`t be silent now. I call in, but Rod is not there on a Saturday, and I get no call back later in the week. Lastly, the 29 point checks seem questionable, where the mechanic says one thing can wait, but the actual checklist says to do it right away. I got a second opinion, and it appears the 29-point checks exaggerate. I gave these people $250 for adding freon that was wasted and an oil change with a quart overfilled. When I relay the problem, I get offered a $460 compressor ($190 more than parts store), and nothing about the overfill. Do you think Rod`s establishment is one to trust? If you refer others there, you also get rewarded. It is amazing how many things you can find wrong on a vehicle, and if you have the money for all of them, you`ll be taken care just fine.

One word: Honest.
Rod looked at my car, right at the end of his day, when he could have easily said ""come back in the morning"" (which is exactly what several other mechanics said less than 30 minutes before). I had just driven down to Bellingham, going to New Mexico, on my way back from Alaska, so I needed help right then. My car was making an awful crunching noise whenever I went over a bump. It sounded like the wheels were going t... view moreo come off. Rod quickly diagnosed the problem as a lose shock (I had just had another shop in Anchorage replaced both my shocks and struts). He pulled a wrench off his shelf, tightened one bolt on each side and bam, good as new. I offered to pay, but Rod declined, wishing me a safe trip. Many other mechanics would have taken full advantage of my predicament. Not Rod. One word: Honest.

Professional job
This was the second time I have had my 95 Passport repaired at Rod`s. They did a very professional job both times, which is why I am a repeat customer and will continue to take my vehicle to Rod`s for all my car repair needs. I have recommended Rod`s to family members and friends, and would recommend them to anyone reading this review.

I felt good I had a Mechanic I could trust
With my car being paid off, I myself would NEVER EVER bring my car to a DEALER SERVICE again after warranty expired. Lets say they offered Me a ""good deal"" to trade in my Paid off car for a New one and all I came in was service and my car still made noises after. So I was hesitant to bring My car to any Mechanic again. Then...

Rod`s Japanese Auto Care was recommended to My New wife to fix her Subaru after... view more a fender bender last snow storm. She liked his work and ever since. My wife has since brought her Subaru to Rod`s Japanese Auto Care to tune and fix her ageing Subaru. I came with her ever time she pickup up her Subaru and was impressed with Rod`s services and desk side manor.

Impressed enough to bring My 98 Honda for service. Rod himself was friendly and upfront. Showing Me the work He and his Son did with Schematics and language that didn?ˆ™t intimidate Me and make Me feel like a fool for not understanding. Rod showed Me why My car was making the noise and what the part was suppose to do. Rod and his Son even fixed some of the ""Dealer, forgot to does"" when the Dealer was closing and finishing up my car. I felt He know his trait Well, Rod didn`t try to offer any other services I didn`t need, only perhaps to change my worn out brake pads in the rear, which I did for safety sake. Armed with up to date information and State-of-the-art equipment, I felt good I had a Mechanic I could trust.

After I got my car back I was impressed with the noise it made?ˆ¦no noise what so ever ; ) OHHH the JoY!!! That`s why I am writing this report to let you know that there is a LOCAL Auto repair shop that didn`t screw Me and My Wife. Rod`s Japanese Auto Care made Clients out of us. Think about it, if there was something wrong with your body, would you bring it to a doctor for a fix and all the doctor did was a ""quick fix"" knowing you would be back for another fix, or go to a doctor that would fix it warranty it and let his services do his talking.
