Reviews:
Lakewood Transmission was very upfront about everything involving the price for rebuilding a transmission. Everyone there is great. The first time I called them, it was at the end of the day, yet they were willing to stick around, pick up the phone and answer all of my questions. Not only did they take time to answer all of my questions throughout the process and were even willing to go as far as having me come down ... view moreto the shop where they laid out all of the bad parts and showed me what they planned on using. Everything went smoothly. They rebuilt my transmission and everything is still going well. I would definitely go back again and will recommend their services.

Very nice front desk when you bring your car in. They appear to be very knowledgeable. Perhaps they are. I just know that they gave me a complete overhaul on my transmission once, taking 1 month, and costing over $3000 ( $800 over bid, because it had to be overhauled instead of rebuilt.) . 3 months later, my new transmission totally crashed. I had to have them redo it. All of a sudden, the front desk wasn`t so ... view morenice anymore. They did rebuild the rebuilt transmission for free and quick too. Only, I could tell when I picked it up, it wasn`t right. Of course, they could not see the problem. 2 months later, my transmission quit shifting again. So in 6 months, I have had to bring it back to them 3 times. I wish I did not have to go back to them, but as long as my transmission is under warranty and keeps breaking, I guess I am stuck.

I am attempting to rebuild a G...
I am attempting to rebuild a GM transmission myself for the very first time and my efforts would have ended it total failure if not for Don and the crew at Lakewood Transmission. They got me parts at a great price. Don personally escorted me over to one of the builders so I could learn first hand how to reassemble a tricky clutch assembly. They have gone out of their way to help me everytime I go in, which is ofte... view moren.

My experience with this place ...
My experience with this place was beyond terrible. If I could give them a NEGATIVE star rating, I would! My car was doing a sudden jerking and not shifting so it was taken to them and they drove it for THOUSANDS of miles (yes, thousands, I have odometer readings to prove it) and finally it acted up while they drove it so then they replaced some transmission parts and the total cost was $2000. He told me it was &qu... view moreot;shifting beautifully" the day I picked it up. Well, the second I drove out of the lot, I noticed it wasnt shifting right! Then on the freeway it started doing the EXACT same thing it had been doing before. So I turned around and drove right back and the guy acted like I was lying or something. I was NOT happy that after having my car for TWO MONTHS and giving them $2000 that the problem was still NOT fixed! Then they kept the car another two weeks and said it was fixed and I got it and after driving only 100 miles there was a NEW problem happening - the car would not shift into 3rd gear sometimes! I took it back to them, they kept it another 2 weeks, added 600 more miles on it, claimed it never acted up for them, finally said it was not transmission related but an electrical problem related to the alarm system. WOW. They must think I am a complete moron. There is NO way it`s related to the alarm and the alarm was disconnected years ago anyway!!!!!!
So I had to take my car to another transmission place in Tacoma and they test drove it and it immediately acted up (not shifting into 3rd) and they said it was NOT related to any alarm (which was disconnected) and that it IS transmission related.
If Lakewood Transmission was the ONLY transmission place left on earth, I still wouldnt take my car there.

This was the only transmission...
This was the only transmission shop in the Tacoma, Lakewood area that would politely answear my questions without sarcastic comments in person or on the phone. All of the other shops had a don`t waste my time type of attitude, just let us fix it regardless of the cost and we`ll let you know when it`s ready. These guy`s were very honest. Don and then later Scott and the others there went out of their way to explain ho... view morew & why it works. I am a certified automotive tech but not a transmission rebuiler. Being in the automotive repair Industry for over Twenty years , I know good & bad shops. This is not a good shop but an excellant shop and I encourage you to take your vehicle there for TRANSMISSION problems before you go to the other Rude ones that perhaps don`t have the integrity of these Guy`s.
