Rhine Automotive.
Well, here is a question, when a client has a problem with a product you offer, as a business and being in management for years...you`re supposed to ATTEMPT to rectify the situation. There`s no problem with trying, there are problems when someone acts as if they are owed something even AFTER they sell a faulty product.
Rhine auto had sold us an engine, that engine was noted to have a crack in the ... view moreoil pan and was in need of replacement. That is fine with us, however, upon inspection there was a bell housing tab that was broken which was NOT mentioned to us. We can deal with that, structurally it was not of concern but it is still something that the client requires the attention of. So, onto the oil pan...this is where the disaster starts. We pull the small cover off the pan (two part oil pan) and what do we find? No oil pick up tube, THEN we see the bearing material and what looks like physical chunks of a piston ring or relief...now is where some of the worry starts. I call to inform Nic (sales associate that was assisting me) about the situation. I first ask him what they had performed to the engine that ensure them it`s a quality running engine (as most professionals would do to simply go around asking the question directly) and I had received some information that I was NOT fond of.
-----The compression test results that were performed were clearly a lie.
If the engine was tested with a starter on it then NO oil was being fed to the engine and being that this is a 6 cylinder with 3-5 cranks per cylinder then we`re looking at 18-30 cranks on the engine. That is enough to starve a cylinder head and without a pick up that`s enough to starve the bottom end as there wouldn`t be any oil getting to the rear of the engine (pump through the front of the motor and into the crank so it would be running dry).
This is a very complex situation.
We purchased the engine as the distance wasn`t that bad and the pricing was good.
Now, if I had listened to Nic, the situation would have been MUCH worse. The engine having a warranty is fine but when I mentioned that at some point the oil pan was removed and the pickup taken off I was told to re-install a pick up from our core and go from there. Now, if my tech hadn`t looked into it further (there was oil at the base of the pan, luckily it tipped over and all the bearing materials were evident) then we`d be dealing with ANOTHER 14+ hours to find out that it would have rod or main bearing damage.
Now, we have time into inspecting the engine was meant to be in proper working order, we have nearly 4 hours spent of tech time to drive up and pick the motor up, then the fuel charges that had gone into picking the engine up...now we are supposed to drive back and drop the engine off while getting a 100 credit towards the other engine? Why? Why do we have to LOOSE (72 [tech 4*18] +60 [fuel] +18 [tech inspection]) an additional 150.00 on top of the lift being taken up which is another potential 1200.00 a day in our shop?-----Myself emailing Nic
Now, after informing them of what we have on our hands, we get a phone call a few hours later stating that a local Nissan dealer had picked the engine up, swapped some parts and gave it back to them, well, someone is running a shady operation since there were "swapped" parts that no one knew of.
