Safelite Autoglass a Disappointing Ripoff

When my windshield was damaged by a rock, I called Safelite because I had seen their commercials on television. The technician came to my office at work and repaired my windshield in less than 20 minutes. He assured me they had a ""no spread guarantee."" At the time, I believed a ?ˆ?no spread guarantee?ˆ? was a guarantee that my windshield would not spread further. What that actually means is that there is a good chance ... view moreyour windshield will continue to spread and they ?ˆ?credit?ˆ? what you?ˆ™ve already paid for your repair towards replacing the entire thing. This angered me from the start because if that fact had been explained to me by my technician I would have just went ahead and replaced the windshield from the get go. Hindsight is 20/20. After my windshield continued to spread over the next week I called Safelite where they proceeded to quote me an addition $195.01 to replace my windshield on top of the $135.18 I had already spent with them. Seeming a little high in price, I shopped around to various glass companies finding that the average windshield replacement for my car?ˆ™s make and model is $250. That is 80 dollars less than what Safelite offered me. Unable to get my money back, I was stuck. I figured I?ˆ™d be a saving a few dollars by just letting Safelite finish the job. I called to the make appt but stressed that since they were already charging me 80 dollars more to replace the windshield, the least they could do was waive the mobile fee so I didn?ˆ™t have to miss any work. The customer service representative assured me that not only would that be possible, but if for any reason it wasn?ˆ™t they would call me prior to my appointment to tell me. Today the technician comes to my office to replace the windshield and tells me it will be $300+ to fix. After assuring him this is some sort of mistake he calls them and they bring it down it to $242 for me. I told him I was quoted $195 and the mobile fee was to be waived. He said he was told the mobile fee could not be waived and that is the lowest price. I told him I was sorry he came all this way but I?ˆ™d rather spend an extra 8 bucks to have any other company in the area do the job than give Safelite a total of $377 for a windshield that is worth only $250. My suggestion, just get your windshield replaced from the beginning and shop around because I guarantee other companies do it for cheaper than Safelite.

Great Service, Great Price

They put a new windshield in our `98 Camry. It set us back about $185. They did a very nice job; the new trim around the windshield looks great and there are no leaks. I don`t know what else to say. I have no complaints.
