Most honest shop I know. No B.S., no up-sells, no gimmicks, tricks, or games
I first heard about this place from a friend in 2005 and now I have been going there for everything since. I am a real cheapskate and usually shop coupons and discounts for things like oil changes, but I have grown weary of most name brand or highly marketed shops because every time I go to them to get a coupon deal *something* is wrong and needs repair or replacement and a $19.99 oil change becomes a $300 repair of ... view moresome sort. It is hard to trust that they aren`t just 1. incompetent, 2. up-selling, 3. overzealous about expensive ""dealer recommended"" repairs, or 4. just plain dishonest.
So instead I take my car to Computune for even oil changes (which usually are NOT cheaper than a $19.99 coupon) but I know that if something is *really* wrong they will tell me, but they won`t be making stuff up either. I like the way they level with me and tell it to me straight, they always give me options for saving money, they don`t seem eager to ""get the work"" so they are not in a rush about pressuring me into expensive repairs like other shops. They seem like a very busy shop and quite popular yet not glitzy and superficial like highly marketed shops. The owner (who actually wears the mechanic shirt and works on most cars that come through) is very hands on and is a very good and honest guy. I found out that he actually graduated from BYU with an MBA but liked working on cars so much he took over the shop and now owns, operates, and works there. There are about 5-6 bays and about 4-6 mechanics working, they seem to do everything from inspections/oil changes to major repairs.
It is a blue shop behind Jiffy Lube in Provo, just east of Carl`s Jr on 300 west and west of the trophy shop. Funny thing is a buddy of mine (fellow PlSc major, pre-law student at BYU) whom I graduated with in `06, is currently their office manager and he has continued that tradition of straight talking and no B.S. about your vehicle.
