Disappointed
Sadly these people will let you down and not care one bit. They are horrible in the service dept. They lie and are inconsistent. I will never ever buy from them just so I can keep from having to service my car here.

The salesman never bothered to...
The salesman never bothered to call me even after I got approved, they finance company was the one that called me and I had them transfer my loan to the gulf freeway location. By the way; the purchase experience there was ok, but the car broke down a week later and the horror story is still ongoing.

BUYER BEWARE!! Their customer ...
BUYER BEWARE!! Their customer service is the WORST! I recently purchased a vehicle there. Test- drove and inspected the car and it was impeccable. Came the next day to pick up and sign papers, and noticed that the car had a DEEP scratch where some paint had chipped off. We told our salesperson Dammy Adekola , about it, and he said not to worry, he would take care of it. He said he would ask for a sales manager for a ... view moresigned paper saying that they would fix it since it wasn`t there when we test drove the vehicle and it was mostly likely caused by the negligence of one of their employees when the vehicle was moved off the sales lot. We trusted him and signed the papers. Dammy then had "to go" as his shift was over, but he said he had talked to Loquetta Davis, the sales manager, and she would take care of us. She then came over to where the vehicle was, my husband showed her the scratch and she said "wow" that`s pretty deep". She then said to my husband "You know you are buying a USED car, right?". He said of course, but the damage wasn`t there when we first saw the vehicle. She then handed over a paper that read "Please address the scratches on the rear side of the vehicle" signed with her signature. and told us we had 30 days to bring the car back to get it fixed. I brought it back almost two weeks after, waited for hours, and all they did was put what looked like silver nail polish over the scratch/chipped area. Apparently, that is how they "fixed" it. The guy in charge of the body shop was super nice, but he said he couldn`t do any more for me since Ms. Davis wrote the word "scratch" on the paper and that is how they "address scratches" according to their policy. He himself thought she chose the wrong choice of wording and it worded differently, he could have done something else . When I spoke again to Ms. Davis she said they couldn`t do any more, because it "would affect the value of the vehicle" and it would be "too costly for them to fix". She kept giving me the run around making me wait for different people to see what they could do about it. After speaking to each one, I came up with the conclusion that in the end, she had the last word and she wasn`t about to put her precious job in jeapardy by costing the company a few hundred dollars, to fix a "scratch". Our saleperson Dammy, never bothered to come see me or answer his phone, even though he knew I was there. When I asked to see him, they told me he just "drove off" and wasn`t available. So much for "great customer service". I am so dissapointed with Carmax. This is the second vehicle I buy from them, but never ever will I buy from them again or refer them to anybody. Ever. Don`t waste your time or money there or any other Carmax. It`s not worth the hassle or stress. Don`t fall for the 125 point inspection...its not true. Ms. Davis admittedly told us they do "repaint" vehicles if necessary to make them look "newer" and increase their "value". Plus, they don`t use CARFAX, but their own internet vehicle history report which is a joke.... Lesson learned.

terrible service after I was sold a lemon
Salesperson was very nice, and getting the car to begin with was actually quite painless. Got the MaxCare warranty thinking that was the best idea at the time-- a year later, I had some transmission difficulty, so took the car in. I had the clutch replaced and entire transmission rebuilt over the course of three weeks, after parts were mailed in, the diagnosis was incorrect several times, and including multiple trips... view more to attempt picking it up and several rental cars. Customer service was horrifying, and when I got the car back, they hadn`t done the inspection (now outdated, as I`d left the car there close to a month and asked to have the inspection done), so rather than wait longer, took it to get the now-expired inspection done elsewhere, only to have the car die at the othergarage. Back to Carmax where they took the car for ANOTHER week to fix the fuel-injection system, THEN tried to charge me for a bunch of labor that should have been covered under the extended warranty. After two more weeks of discussions and car issues, I left furious and broke, with what was clearly a lemon. I`ve since done multiple repairs on the car, paying the higher deductible at a different shop. Oh, and I was upside-down on the car after a year. Miserable. All the way around. Stay far, far away.

Horrible Repair Service
I had an OK experience with the purchase of the car, but I was extremely disappointed with the Service Department. They handed me the keys to my new pre-owned car and told me that it had passed their complete engine and system checkover, even gave me a certificate that it passed. My car had 4 major oil leaks and this should have been caught during their All Points Engine Check. The Service Department said the oil... view more leaks must have popped up after it passed their inspection. But my mechanic, who I know and trust, said it was obvious these leaks have been ongoing for many years so -- they are full of it. You can tear up their Engine Check Certificate because it is crap. Also, after several trips to the service department over the past 8 months now, I have determined that the Mechanics in the Service Department are unable to find and fix problems that most other mechanics can find and fix. I had my car in for service another time for seven days and they were unable to find what was causing a very loud squeak on my front end, had to pay them the $50 deductible anyway, even though they did not fix anything. An outside mechanic found and fixed it quickly, said it wasn`t that hard. I did find out that if you have the extended warranty you can use it at a regular mechanic if they deal with warranty work. And some of them don`t even charge the $50 Deductible that CarMax charges. So I will be going to a private outside Mechanic in the future becuase I have lost trust in CarMax`s ability to diagnose and fix problems on my car. They also sometimes break other things while working on your car, and then they deny it and argue that it is not possible that they could have done the damage that your car came out of their shop with, when you know you did not put your car in the shop with the damage. They basically call you a liar and say your complaint is not valid and you have to get really ugly with them to get any kind of fair resolution to your problems. And the wait time to get checked in and then your car looked at is waaaay too long. The shuttle wait time is ridiculous also. I have waited several hours for a shuttle each time I have been there, and it is my understanding that the shuttle takes many people home at the same time so after a 2 to 3 hour wait to get on the shuttle, you have to take a bus ride all over town until they get to your stop in your part of town. If you do decide to purchase of car from CarMax, HAVE YOUR MECHANIC CHECK OUT THE CAR BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT FROM THEM. And find a regular mechanic that is willing to deal with warranty work and you will save yourself a lot of headaches. Steer Clear of the CarMax Service Department if you can.

Horrible Repair Service - All Points Engine Check Not Done

Horrible
Roommate bought a Saab from CarMax, Houston, TX six months ago. Has been in the repair shop twice since then. Brake rotors are completely deteriorated, which isn`t covered on the ""MaxCare"" warranty (read the fine print). When asked what their standards were for their 125-point inspection, they said they have minimum standards when inspecting brakes: new brake pads are 12 inches, they require 4 inches of pad to p... view moreass their inspection. This is a sham and basically will get your car past the initial return phase and then lead to a sequence of expensive repairs.
Also, their service department will tell you that they do not diagnose problems. You basically have to already know what`s wrong with your vehicle before you take it in. Then they probably won`t fix it correctly. I feel horrible for anyone who buys from them - it`s clearly a sham.

Great customer service, very nice atmosphere, quality used cars
This was our second purchase from this CarMax lot. Five years ago we bought a van with no glitches during the buying process, so we vowed to return to CarMax for our next purchase.
Just like the first experience, we walked through the front door and were greeted immediately with a smile and a handshake by a nice, young, man. He radiated honesty and a good personality. We felt comfortable and got right to ... view morethe point and let him know we had a trade-in to get a value on. He got their personnel right on that, before we even discussed anything else.
Then, I told him exactly what we had looked at on the internet, and we spend about 30 minutes looking at different vehicles on the lot and test driving them. The salespeople don`t make commission, he was just doing his job. He was doing what he is paid to do....have good customer service and assist us in buying a car. We went home that day with the car that we had our hearts set on before we got there.
If you search the internet and know what you are looking for and what price is fair for the vehicle you want, CarMax is the place to go. If you find one online, there is no use in arguing at all of the other car dealerships for a lower price unless you just enjoy doing it! It`s just too easy at CarMax and the prices are very fair.
Every detail of the experience was positive and plan to return again in a few years for our next vehicle.
